Hii. Your biggest fan since day 1💜You have always inspired me, and the reason I’m pursuing my MSc in counselling psychology. Congratulations on Harvard and your paper🎉❤ Hope to see you soon Mamagoat🐐
Hi Divija! Good to know your personal experience in this field. But I wonder why you have given a wrong information stating that the qualification required in India to be a counselling psychologist is Bachelors + Masters in Psychology. When actually in India the minimum qualification required is only Masters in Psychology. I was inspired by you and switched my career to psychology when I saw one of your insta video during lockdown, where you stated that one can do Masters in Psychology even without a bachelors in psychology and work as a counselling psychologist. Currently, the criteria for the qualification of a counselling psychologist in India have not been changed either.
Because the norm is to do bachelors and masters both in psychology. Many master’s courses don’t accept people from other backgrounds and also it is not quite possible to understand psychology deeply just by studying it for 2 years. I would recommend every budding psychologist to study it properly for a minimum of 4/5 years before working. While it may be possible to do a “shortcut”, it does not do justice to this career at all. Further, the new proposal for the qualifications of psychologists also states they need to complete at least 4 years of BSc to be a counselling psychologist. This is just a proposal though.
@@awkwardgoat3 That is not the norm, many people switch courses in their masters and well established universities or colleges do accept students without a non-psych background. Your own Alma Maters, which are Ambedkar University of Delhi & Amity, accepts non-psych students in masters. Even RCI recognised instituition accept this criteria for MPhil course. Also it doesn't mean that therapists with only masters, stop studying further, they can continously train, upskill and work under supervision to ensure competency. So it does not stop with 2 years of education. There are many well skilled competent psychologists with only a masters in psychology and they do their work well even compared to many famous clinical psychologists or psychotherapists who do not have strong basics and practice unethically. Saying it is a "shortcut" is really degrading the efforts of those people who just followed the regulations of UGC and earned their seats through entrance exams or interviews just like any other student from bachelors in psychology. There was nothing unethical here. This disinformation from you affects the livelihood of such psychologists, as your content reaches and influences a larger audience. If the new proposal is to study for 4 years, then the upcoming batches can very well follow the regulation (if it is put into action).
