The Rememberance Day part choked me up as a Navy veteran. My great grandfather was at the Somme, my paternal Grandfather flew P-51s in WW2, I am a GWOT veteran and have more dead friends than living now. It hits hard.
When did Bill Bailey become a chaplain? Silliness aside, great crew and captain, they should all be proud of their service. Lovely ending. Great series.
Covered in rust, zero redundancy when their main systems go down, in the middle of operation no less, seemingly understaffed and green crew, Yeah.. Cutting edge frigate alright.. If anything this video shows the absolute state of the british navy.
I've been fairly critical of this ship from the last few episodes. I only have question for this episode. Why wasn't the steering gear greased on a regular basis? I would think that it would be greased as part of its normal maintenance. But perhaps I'm just being nit-picking. As far as the Russians - it was just Russians being Russians. I served in The US Navy during the Vietnam War, and we had a Soviet "fishing trawler" shadowing us everywhere we went. The interesting part was that the "fishing trawlers" had about 100 antennae sticking up from it. I was touched by their Remembrance Day ceremony. As someone who has lost many friends, ceremonies such as this are always tough, but necessary.
I'm aware they decided that they could do without onboard maintainers back in the 80s and stopped training artificers (I was one). Hence some stoker ( termed very mistakenly "engineer ") is finding ungreased parts where once there would be planned maintenance. I think they've learned their lesson as they're recruiting engineers again.
As a kid I often observed and sometimes visited Destroyers, cruisers, frigates, a couple of subs and a couple of aircraft carriers. Loved doing that but in 1970 I ended up joining the U.S. Air Force. All these years have passed and I still can’t explain it. lol. I do want to convey my respects and appreciation to that spiffy UK Destroyer and its crew. Best wishes and safety to that wonderful crew.

Fair winds and following seas to these sailors. I steamed in the North Atlantic/Berants Sea back in 1971 while attached to NATO operation Royal Knight. My ship USS Dahlgren DLG-12 was a missile destroyer and we pretty much did the same thing these guys are doing. Chasing Russian/Soviet subs.
The very fact that the russians were there at all, plainly shows that they already knew perfectly well that the US sub was there, long before it arrived.
This is really good content. It captivates me immensely. I wonder how the Russians know that an American submarine is going to dock and at what location? Also, I'm not sure if that noise will really help. With the materials I have at my disposal, I can build a drone boat so small that it can easily approach within a meter of the submarine without anyone noticing. This video gives me confidence on one hand and, on the other hand, not at all.
This is nice, but it raises some questions. How did the Russians know where to be and when to be there to intercept the U.S. submarine? The radar showed an awful lot of Russian vessels off the coast of Ireland, which the Russians had to know would attract unwanted attention from the Royal Navy. The Russian bomber that flew over H.M.S. Northumberland was "a few miles" off the coast of Ireland and flying toward Ireland. Where were the Typhoons to intercept it?
The Russians have access to plenty of Intel from the docs that trump kept on stage at the mar a Lago ballroom. I doubt that there is little they don't know about our sources and methods.
The fact that the Russians knew where the US sub will be raises many questions. How did they track it? Did Northumberland really made a difference considering Russians have been tracking the sub and knew where the sub will be.
How about the Russian ship was a decoy and they had sub or even a drone on the opposite side recording the US sub sound. Also while it's a frigate pretty sure the Brits involved one of their own suba as countermeasure
I love how they play stupid when it comes to intel on Russian ships.. The US is tracking and watching just about every advisories ships and subs with its own subs, ships and satellites. UK just wants to ack like their little bass boat navy is doing something lol!
Да в России смотрим . Удивительно только то что на борту корабля много толстых и некрасивых женщин. Это к беде. Впервые увидел в бинокль женщин на борту авианосца Арк Роял в 1987 году в английском канале. Тогда англичанки были красивее
All due respect to these guys, but the USS Ford just got back from a 7 month deployment - they're complaining about being out to sea for a couple weeks???
Sonar receivers are more sophisticated than that. The frequency of high volume music can be discriminated from other more "valuable" sounds in the water, some of which they are listening for in particular.
Suspicious Russian activity? Ha ha' that's funny! if you know they're there it's because they want you to know, it's Captain Kirk and the Klingons... no cloaking device needed.

I fear WW3 has already started and if so I hope we can stand united and do what needs to be done, no more or no less. I'm a Republican that voted for Trump last go around. That being said, I'm not sure I'll vote for him purely for his foreign policies, i.e., anti NATO, anti Ukraine, etc. This sucks because Biden has been a crappy president and Trump was awesome.
