    Very cool place. I think the architects of the past could teach people a thing or two about construction in the present. Really nice information you gave to. Have a great week and great work on this video.

      Really appreciate Lance, thank you! The ancestral puebloans were amazing architects and builders. And how relentless they must have been to live in the desert so long, it fascinates me.

    look how big he has gotten. We are going to NM ourselves very soon. But we will not be in NW New Mexico. I thought a Kiva was a fireplaces. At least when I lived in Santa Fe that is what we called a Kiva.

    • @WithinHikingDistance
      @WithinHikingDistance  4 года назад

      He is growing really fast! Interesting how you use the word Kiva. It was a place to gather for pueblo people so a fireplace would be sensible evolution of the work locally. Thank you and sorry for the late answer!

    The inside of the reconstructed kiva was fantastic! I could see spending a few hours here - amazing place. The doorways were perfect for Little Man!

      It was so beautifully done. Schools come visit and sometimes get a glimpse at the rituals with ceremonies being recreated by Native Americans. I wish we could have seen one. The great thing about this place was that it was small so we took our time to read about the history and their lifestyle. Little had a blast running around - it was perfect for him! Thank you so much Heather 😊

      Hi Hélène and Serge! The ancestral puebloans were spread over the four corners. Mesa Verde are the most famous ruins but there are many more of them, of different shapes and sizes. We love history so we really had a great time there. Did you visit New Mexico during your road trip? Yes, so much to see in the States 😉 Merci beaucoup les amis!

      Great question Steve! I believe it dates back from a couple centuries ago, before the US border is where it is today. It was thought back then that the ruins had been built by the Aztecs. It was small but packed with great info and history, we had a great time! Thanks so much!
