George was so gracious with his time and so gracious to have you play such valuable instruments. This is the best video I’ve seen with Gruhn ever. To be able to hear these instruments played of this vintage even if compressed with RUclips. It’s as close as most of us will ever get to hearing them. It must have been quite an experience.
George Gruhn's childlike enthusiasm for guitars and music is so infectious! It also takes 50 years off his age when he gets going! ;) What a champ! You probably had around a million dollars of incredibly desirable instruments go through your hands in that one session!
This may be my favorite video you guys have done to this point. I have a feeling you could interview him every day for years and not come close to hearing everything this man knows about guitars. What a character as well... I know that was the first mandolin featured on this channel. Thanks, guys!
I really enjoyed this (as I sit here with my Quad O sinker mahoghany custom shop). I do think that some great bluegrass players cringed when they noticed you totally ignored George's offer to see a Loar.
Old bone's seasoned to perfection.. Those were someone's pride and joy at one time. Between the craftsman's building them to the people playing them. Absolutely amazing. Bravo to you for your awesome playing.
Very nice finger picking on the old Martin's! That first one, from 1842?, was just amazing, can't imagine it in person! Glad I looked back to find this one.
Man your fantastic playing made those beautiful instruments sound heavenly. The tone coming out of every guitar you played was noticeably different. You had an experience of a lifetime with the private tour from Mr. Gruhn himself. I'm jealous.
Finally got to watch this whole episode man that is alot of amazing sounding instruments, and the history to go along with it. Thanks for showing us the Legendary Gruhn. An his guitars sound really good... Would love to play one of those puppies... Only medication he needs is different picks to play different instruments lol Thanks you Sir's
Please return asap and capture as much of his wisdom as possible, I could tell he was loving your playing, a perfect accompaniment to his stories. Those guitars sounded so sweet, what a treat!
Very kool George knows pretty much anything you need to know about classic guitars and has a sample of the as well. Definitely a great video killer playing too…
Simply amazing seeing you guys play so many wonderful guitars and listening to George explain their history. If it was not so late when I watched this, I would be down stairs playing my old Gibson B-45 or Guild G-37! Thank you!
Suggestion for your next video. Put a mic on the person you are interviewing so we can better hear what they are saying. Your playing overpowers any conversation in volume.
One strum on that '29 L10 and we all immediately could tell why George just said "this is one of THE best sounding arch tops I've ever played" ... WOW. ... any explanation why that sounded so good? Wood type? Different bracing? I'd love to know.
Awesome video I’ve been to Gruhns Quite a few times when The shop was next to The Ryman Auditorium Is one of thebest guitar stores ever your videos are getting much more interesting
Can you share what equipment you used to record this video. Such as Camera and microphone, etc. The sound quality is exceptional and I would really appreciate the info.
I know the focus of the videos is supposed to be the guitars, and there's a lot of great guitars featured, but I'd be remiss if I didn't say what an awesome job you did playing them too John, great video!
One question, which I really would appreciate to get an answer plz. If you could only take 1(!) guitar you played in this video, which on would it be? 😮
Love this video. Thanks. I just subscribed. That OM-28 sounded good to me, but I wouldn't mind a sinker like that! How do I define a guitar? Six strings and resonance.
I can’t believe you went to Gruhn’s and u walked right by his guild nightbird gg prototype!!! I know some folks like to talk a bit but it seems like u weren’t listening much. The guild nightbird is probably better than 99 % of all guitars you have ever played! What a bummer
Thank god for gibson's mistake with the dye they used on the old '58-'59 les pauls! Just imagine if they all just stayed bright cherry! BORING! 😁 that 59 has a gorgeous fade! I love that honey, butterscotch, carmel or whatever shade that faded to! Just prefect but i will take mine sans Bigsby!
He specifically encouraged me to play while we talked. Nothing made him more excited than grabbing one guitar after another and handing it to us, talking and listening...he could have stopped the tour short anytime. Thanks for watching
Your very lucky to get to go upstairs at George’s place!

Noodling whilst George Gruhn speaks. I dunno, I think he’s the kind of fella you fully listen to when he starts talking.
yes, very rude

Seriously, really happy you asked to play the 59’. You can’t hit a ball you don’t swing at and you knocked that one out of the park. How awesome.
How cool is George! Holy crap. Dude that gold Gibson with whammy bar you went to another level of playing awesome dude 48:24
Old bone's seasoned to perfection.. Those were someone's pride and joy at one time. Between the craftsman's building them to the people playing them. Absolutely amazing.
Bravo to you for your awesome playing.
Definitely the les paul!
Great vid and playing. That Gibson ‘59 LP with the Bigsby was the bomb.
Fascinating. 👍

Great video! Mr. Gruhn is a treasure trove of guitar history knowledge.

Lol “only medication” best comment yet
That was Awesome Guys ! Thank You George for sharing so much Knowledge and History and really Cool Guitars !
Every time I see this man speak I learn something very cool and important in the music industry or was at one time.
I would be Sweating bullets around all those expensive guitars. Awesome video...
George Gruhn playing killer riff standing up with no strap, at like 80 : "I'm not playing this right"
😂😂😂
Wow..what a great store!. Great playing !
I think the cat toward the beginning must be a guard cat and it gets to eat any intruders. It's huge!
What a beautiful shop.

Great work guys, Thank You.
Nice job with the 59 Les Paul, Mr. Gruhn was impressed that you put it through all its paces on the test drive
Great video guys! SO many lovely pieces of history there...including George!! I need to make my way down there to check it out.
Legendary.
OK, gotta watch this later, but the 350 & the 200, great opening guitars! I want that 200 bad, bring it back to the burbs, I need it! :D
you sounded most in your element with the gruhn electric at the end! great job!
Wow! Crazy paradise. Thank you so much guys.
And many thanks to George of course ❤
That meow at 5:09 tripped me out! Could not find my cat. Had to play it back to be sure it was the video.

That visit was a guitar players dream!!
The King says you are worthy to play these blessed instruments.
One strum on that '29 L10 and we all immediately could tell why George just said "this is one of THE best sounding arch tops I've ever played" ... WOW. ... any explanation why that sounded so good? Wood type? Different bracing? I'd love to know.
Those Tacoma's were designed by Gruhn!! I had no idea!
Thanks George 😊
Quite a slice.
Thanks you guys too!
Awesome video I’ve been to Gruhns Quite a few times when The shop was next to The Ryman Auditorium Is one of thebest guitar stores ever your videos are getting much more interesting
George Gruhn knows more about guitar companies than even the owners who own the companies.
The SJ-200 w/Stars on the fretboard gave me pause.. that's the sound.
Fabulous video. George Gruhn is an absolute treasure
Those old Martins sounded superb! What a pleasure to hear them. Brutal sustain; hard to believe. 🤘
Allways impressed out ma boots with George"s knowledge, the fella's an encyclopedia. Respect and stay healthy all.
Thoroughly enjoyed this. Subscribed.
What an amazing place and guy. He truly enjoyed hearing them
very cool
george is a legend
Awesome!
Subscribed, you would make my sons year with that led Paul your giving away. Ill do anything.
Loved it! Amazing content!
Very nice indeed, Well done
this channel always surprises me
Thanks Gents!
The Tacoma: there is a Ferguson guitar, I think, that has that corner-teardrop sound hole, yes? They are/were expensive (?)
Can you share what equipment you used to record this video. Such as Camera and microphone, etc. The sound quality is exceptional and I would really appreciate the info.
I’ve seen 2 59 Les Pauls but I could never even dare lay a finger on them because I didn’t even want to risk dropping $250k-350K
I know the focus of the videos is supposed to be the guitars, and there's a lot of great guitars featured, but I'd be remiss if I didn't say what an awesome job you did playing them too John, great video!

The thing, the Gruhn, he's comin !
People who live for guitars are my kind of people
So George designed the Tacoma guitar with the Paisley sound-hole? Never heard that before.
When did solid contact bridges begin to be fitted to arch-tops instead of fiddle type two footed bridges? does anyone know?
Is that cat named Hank?
What was the brand of semi-acoustic electric guitar that was played at 49.36?
what was that wee first old Martin strung with? Silk?
Been wondering lately why orchestral instruments like cellos and double basses / violins don't have a variety of burst finishes?
Not in to acoustic as much as electric strat with big amp and pedals. Just way more fun and sounds
Which ones were your favourites, ignoring looks and value?
I can’t believe you went to Gruhn’s and u walked right by his guild nightbird gg prototype!!! I know some folks like to talk a bit but it seems like u weren’t listening much. The guild nightbird is probably better than 99 % of all guitars you have ever played! What a bummer
Can somebody tell me what is that giant resonator guitar is ? on the left side of camera . Next to it is a I think a bass ?
So nice to see all these rare beautiful instruments , but it's so annoying to hear a beginner's mono-tonal playing on them!!
What was the price tag on that Les Paul with the bigsby you were playing ?
$375k 🤑
@@PlayandTradeGuitars my God. I guess she’s a pipe dream for a lad like myself.
Thank god for gibson's mistake with the dye they used on the old '58-'59 les pauls!

George knows how to design a guitar,,,
Hold the camera still…😀
George designed guitars for Tacoma . Who knew
Very insightful video. One bone to pick: When Mr Gruhn speaks, please stop playing. His voice is soft, and I missed some of his wisdom. Thank you.
Anyone looking for mint Goya 340 herringbone inlaid. Beautiful mint.
How many likes can I give?!
Why can't George be my Dad?
too much noodling..... wonderful info.
Every time his rings knocked against those guitars I cringed.
Yes!
be nice if you didnt play loudly over george talking
Stop playing when he is talking, seems a bit rude
He specifically encouraged me to play while we talked. Nothing made him more excited than grabbing one guitar after another and handing it to us, talking and listening...he could have stopped the tour short anytime. Thanks for watching
No big selection.
