It's interesting how Beyonce wasn't the focal point in the group at this point, the other members were just as important (at least during interviews).
Not true, Beyoncé was always the lead singer of the group which they mentioned in interviews multiple times. Kelly was always co-lead. That’s why you hear Beyoncé’s voice the most on every DC album, including the very first one. Fun Fact: What a lot of people don’t know is that off-stage Beyoncé is a very shy person (she really had to overcome shyness as a kid) so that’s why in her DC days you rarely saw her be e first to speak during an interview or even during an award acceptance speech. I know this all because I’ve been a huge Destiny’s Child Fan since their very first single came out.

@Day yea I just realized that kelly was usually the one who talked, maybe she was the best at public speaking. also, i think it was a good opportunity for the other girls to be able to talk and show off their personalities. latavia talked in interviews too

Beyoncé was the first member of Girl's Tyme and became first lead when Ashley struggled to record "Blue Velvet" - RIGHT AFTER they cut "Sunshine" in the same session - and Bey did it easily.
by the time they did Star Search, Bey lead the whole song and Ashley rapped. Ashley's parents pulled her out shortly thereafter.
Who is Ashley ? Tamar Davis was the only other lead singer besides Beyonce and from what i understand she was the lead before Beyonce and before Matthew was involved with the grip management. Tamar left after they did star search and Latoya was brought in and Beyonce was prompted to lead with Kelly being second lead thus the first line up of Destiny's child.
Ashley is her first name.

her mother was the stylist and baised toward her daughter she always got the best look for example imagine kelly and bey switched looks from the hair down to the shoes you would say omg kelly just stands out. it’s not a matter of skin color or “featurism” in this case it’s simply the styling all of them were beautiful in the face their outfit and hair choice just wasn’t as “glam” that’s all

Latavia was the Sasha of the group aka the hype gurl. She had it factor performing onstage as well as her look. Tho Beyonce sung lead she blended in when it came to interviews. I remember Latavia would get with Beyonce & others when tried during interviews. Ha.

Latavia was on R&B divas where she sang solo and it wasn’t good . She also has a solo verse on the Destiny’s Child song ‘Can’t Help Myself’. She’s more of a TBoz kinda vocalist.
LaTavia's stated role was literally "the spokesperson" - Beyoncé eventually had to become that by default pretty much, but she wasn't comfortable with public speaking and still isn't.
and LaTavia was a dancer-rapper in Girls Tyme. she had to _learn_ to sing, six month crash-course style, to stay in the group when they were getting signed (the first time, with Elektra, I believe) ending up being the bottom/bass in the harmony. she leads the opening verse of "Sweet Sixteen" and you can hear her super clear on the bridge of Amazing Grace.
Sasha of the group? That makes no sense. Bey has always been shy off-stage which is why she usually speaks the least during interviews and award acceptance speeches but she shines on stage the most. She is also the most objectively beautiful member of the group

Always two on one side and two on the other with this lineup. Just couldn't even stand next to one another. Seen this in tons of videos and photos.
fyi, they did not choose to stand this way it just worked better with Charlie Bahama in the middle so he could go from one person to the other quicker. The girls got along fine and were very close to each other like sisters. We did not have a lot of time as they were needed 'on set' so that is why the interview is so quick and Beyonce did not have time to speak... The girls and Mrs Knowles were super nice, courteous and hardworking...
@@charliebahama Yes they did choose to stand that way. The interviewer in the middle leaving two on one side and two on the other. Beyonce and Kelly as per usual, and LeToya and Latavia as per usual.
The group started having problems in 1998 btw so it was still early on after the debuted that issues were brewing and I think this interview was within that timeframe.
Its easier for the interviewer to stand in the middle.

I don’t think the interviewer like Beyoncé here, he didn’t even look her in the eye at all…is like she didn’t exist…but anyways the nostalgia I’m getting watching this video the beach, fashion it was the best era..
nope, the girls lined up like that and the interviewer (me) just placed the mic with whoever spoke up first. we actually had very little time to do the interview because they had to get on set for their mtv performance so we rushed the interview. all the girls and mrs. knowles (who was their with the girls) were fabulous, sweet, professional, hardworking and super nice. we even did a radio interview after their performance where beyonce spoke a lot more... it just flowed like that for tv because of the rush...
