What did you think of the finale to Kyoraku & Nanao vs Lille? Were you pleased with Lille's 2nd form, and Nanao's Shinken Hakkyoken? Let me know your thoughts below - thanks everyone!
I thought it was boring actually. Episodes that have flashbacks don’t hit like they did in the original. I lost interest even though I wanted to pay attention! I feel like when episodes are flashback heavy, it falls short because they don’t use sensory devices like they did in the original. For example the sound effects and music that add context and build context or melancholy.
Absolutely, I was glad we got the golden light and wings. The green was cool, but the golden light really fits with the SS. I would hope that when Gerard uses his aschetonig, he has golden light emanating from him as well.
The only thing I don’t understand is if the manga from of this fight was controversial and the the whole killing God sword comes out of nowhere and then the anime does the exact same thing with no changes I don’t get why this doesn’t get the same controversial energy.
@@kamikazelemming1552 Lillie came off as a completely different character. Not something I expected from one of the oldest soldiers in history If he gets carried away by his op ness
Absolutely gloriously done. The build up. The power momentum. The vast destruction. The color scheme. I sat there thinking nothing could survive despite knowing they were going to be unscathed
When I first read the manga, my internal imaginary voice for Lille completely changed to something high pitched when he went into bird mode due how different he felt from his human form. I wasn’t expecting them to actually do that
I always interpreted lilles personality change as him getting high from his godly powers. Throughout his vollstandich and the fight lille is slowly ascending into godhood and the transition of green to yellow in his wings really show that. The fact that he liked being referred to as a god (which has to be some form of blasphemy to yhwach) is what stuck out to me
Exactly. Besides, he was always an insane zealot right beneath the mask of professionalism, so this is him just getting high off his own supply and dropping any pretense of sanity. If anything, the anime should have gone further with this form. At least the next form will be truly gloriously unhinged back in the Seireitei.
Yhwach transcends far beyond God hood tbh... remember a primordial is a being far before Titan and God hood. Once Yhwach absorbed his father, he was no longer God status but that beyond an all mighty being. Lillie is more like a lesser God, tho he has Divine powers, he is still considered a god.
I think Lille was also getting sick of having being pushed as far as he did (which nobody probably HAS done, which is irredeemable). When Nanno considered him a “God” however, it’s When Lille got Arrogant (Prideful) of his power. His Pride is what was his downfall (Just like Lucifer) because he realized what Nanno told him about her weapon applies to him as well, yet he was too Arrogant to listen and lost because of it. Can’t wait to see the “Mortal” Lille’s in the Soul Society take on the literal incarnation of Hell and Death itself, Kira.
Even as he was “dying” from the blowback of his trumpet attack, he sounded calm, almost as if he didn’t believe he was defeated, or that he could be defeated. He was definitely high off his own supply. Lol
14:43 - the fact that I just realised now that the role of Head Captain was left to him, and knowing Yamamoto, that was something he treasured very greatly. Shunsui really deserves a break omds.
And Ukitake left him the entire soul society to protect by himself. The anime really made me realize just how much Shunsui genuinely burdens without complaining to literally anyone. What a Chad.
He lost his mentor, he lost his oldest friend, And Unohana died, leaving him as the oldest Shinigami serving in the Gotei 13 (Him and Ukitake being the first students of Yamamoto, making him the oldest or at the very least, the oldest of Yamamoto's students). He's lost *everything*.
@@InfinityKrompt Except Nanao atp. Nanao is his niece which is what makes Nanao’s contrasting perspective right after Shunsui’s even more impactful imo
I was watching with 2 of my friends and the moment he said "Why does everybody keep leaving things for me to burden" (or something along that lines) I told my friend "And yama fucking left him the Captain commander role" and we were like damn Shunsui is such a chad....
I feel like Nanao's Shinken Hakkyoken feels like an asspull because of cultural differences. As far as I know, her surname is a reference to Ise shrine en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ise_Shrine Which is supposed to contain a holy mirror en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yata_no_Kagami So for Japanese readers it might feel like a British story with a character with the surname Pendragon; most British readers would probably guess at a link to King Arthur So if that character ended up being decended from a line of kings and getting a holy sword we'd just go "oh so it's Excalibur" and not think about it too much.
@@adampearson8103tbh we can kinda assume that’s exactly what it was and the reason it works on Lille is because as the first quincy, he has a similar power from Yhwach, the son of the soul king
The golden wings is an amazing touch, you could say that achieving his second Vollständig, Lille ascends to a higher plain, a higher tier of power, the power of God.
Lille deserved his punishment, an arrogant Angel. He doesn't mind to be called a God by mere mortal despite claiming to be the God's messenger numerous times. It's an act of hypocrisy unbefits for an supposedly righteous Angel, especially when his God exists who probably already knew Lille would lose via Almighty.
Just realized Lille's vertical gold slash (4:50) is kinda like an opposite Mugetsu. Mugetsu means 'moonless sky', so a totally dark night, while Lille's attack is bright gold like a sky filled with heavenly glow.
I would like to think that Old Man Zangetsu being Yhwach in appearance isn't just to show us his link to the real Yhwach, but also that because Ichigo is a soul reaper, and he was able to materialize a physical form for him, it allowed him to access his power, making him he true first inheritor of his power, even before Lille. Mostly because, up until shortly before the TYBW, Yhwach was still out of the picture, meaning Old Man Zangetsu, knowing all of Yhwachs power and being able to bestow power, I don't think it's a coincidence that Lille's transformation and Vertical Slash is so similar to Ichigo's Mugetsu. After all, if my headcanon is right, both Ichigo and Lille were the "first" to be granted power from Yhwach; it would also seem that both of these forms could be considered transcendental, especially with the talk of "Power of God" in terms of Lille (no longer really even being a Quincy) and Ichigo's already transcended state against Aizen.
@@faceuphoy2981I love your head canon here. My headcanon for this is similar but in a sense that, The Final Getsuga Tensho and mugestsu is what it’s supposed to be in ichigo’s multi racial situation. Call be to when Zangetsu (White Ichigo) said he and Zangetsu have always been one, I don’t think he was talking about Old Man, but of the true Zangetsu character. But the Hollow became stronger and his appearance and fused with Zangetsu. So like Yhwach had to let go of Ichigos restraints in order for Zangetsu to teach him the technique, or at least grant him something that resembles it. Seeing that Isshin and Engetsu also know the technique
@@leonelperrin5580 I did forget Ishin knew it as well. I agree that Ichigo's FGT looks more like a Letz Stil, or at the very least a Quincy ability in design. The ability itself is just taking all of one's spiritual energy and unleashing it in one large scale attack that's multitudes stronger than normal. White and Old Man were one being in the beginning, but when Ichigo's soul chain corroded to get his powers back originally, white became a separate entity from Old Man and thus, the two spirit dynamic was born. The fused Tensa Zangetsu we see fight ichigo during his Dangaj training is Zangetsu's true form. Ichigo's HOS also matches the same design (horn and eye change on same side of head) as well as a true hollowfication, similar to a resurrection (basically waking up/calling the name of "true zangetsu"/white). People seem to forget that, even though Old Man and White are Zangetsu respectfully, Old Man was never supposed to be an independent source of power for Ichigo. When he faded away, leaving Ichigo his true Zanpakuto, for him, that was goodbye. There was one sword for a reason, Ichigo's acceptance of himself and soul is what created his second blade.
People also need to give her some slack because she is a master a kido. Capable of creating a barrier to stall the grandmaster of the quincy, and once he gets through, that one immediately erects another barrier that is stronger than the last. So people should give her some props.
On the other hand she is also someone who just 2 years ago was almost crushed by Yama's reiatsu before he even unleashed his Zanpakuto but is now going against beings that far surpass that level. People would have been more receptive of this if Kubo had actually done something with Nanao up until this point instead of just keeping her in the background doing nothing of note. Hell a build up of familial zanoakutos passed down through generations as a concept would have made it more believable. What a waste of pretty aesthetics.
@sammydray5919 Renji went from a character who struggled against the 8th espada and needed assistance to someone that could casually block mountain shattering attacks in base with his arm because he, and others, had been training extensively since the Aizen incident. When kido is literally ALL she has, it makes sense that yes, Nanao became this dangerous with kido. But even then, it was made pretty clear that she needed time to set up the second barrier and that Haschwalth was in fact going to get through it regardless and likely with little actual trouble. Then she gets handed a weapon that's made for reflecting attacks against an opponent who can only be killed by his own attacks. It's not really like Nanao is fighting Lille here on equal terms of her own accord, and Jugram would have slaughtered her. (Shit she got relatively minor injuries and almost passed out here.)
@@rev0568 My issue with the episode isn't Nanao's role in the fight. My issue is with how little Kubo did with Nanao prior to this and never set up the sword at all so it all comes out of nowhere. I don't even like Renji's new bankai plot point but atleast it makes some sense. This sword reveal just makes no sense whatsoever purely because of how abruptly it was shoved into the story. So forgive me if I don't give her credit for being in a fight that the writer went out of his way to make sure she wins basically instantly.
@@sammydray5919 It was just a poor match-up for Lille, he is a literal being of light and Nanao's familial Zanpaktou is a mirror. At least in the anime, Lille's death was foreshadowed by Senjumaru's Bankai.
@defro125 That matchup comment would have made sense if the counter to his existence hadn't been manifested out of literally nowhere with zero hints or foreshadowing. You can make ANYTHING a bad matchup if you just conjure up counters out of thin air lol. Now lets make Yoruichi a bad matchup for Yhwach because she has also never used her Zanpakuto which means she can now have a sacred relic that counters his Almighty and allows her to outpace the future he saw or some other BS lol
Actually, the 'story' of his Bankai does match the events of what happened to those two, a story of lovers and the dangers of love. His Brother died from an illness brough on by a curse And the Brother's wife got executed, probably by beheading.
@Raion9813 I believe the Sokyoku is used by the Gotei 13 only to execute rogue Shinigami. Normal people would have been executed by more mundane means. If we use Edo Japan rules, the most common forms of execution were Boiling to Death, Execution by Burning, Crucifixion, Decapitation, Execution by Hanging, or sawing a person in half. Of those, I could really only see Decapitation or Hanging being used at least to the head of a major priestly clan of the Soul Society.
@@InfinityKrompt I always assumed it would be a ritual beheading. The Soul Society may be flawed, but every execution attempt we've seen was intended to be quick and painless. On top of that she was the head of a Noble House, and Shisui was able to obtain her hairpin so we know it wasn't by fire.
@@ForgottenFafnir oh no I definitely don't think it was anything other than beheading or suffocation. Though is the Ise a noble house? I was under the impression they were *just* priests.
Shunsui's Zanpakuto urging a retreat while ignoring the shame of it obviously fits in with Shunsui's practical approach and personality. Especially given his responsibility as Captain Commander, he may be willing to commit a sacrifice here and there but he will not throw away his entire force or himself in a hopeless battle. Then Nanao shows up.
@@MyDeeroc No, she made him sleep so she could "take him out of there". I think she would control his body and flee using the shadows. Zampakutous are part of their soul, so it would make sense that someone this close with his zampakutou would be controlled by it if he let her do it.
Ive always viewed Lille'a transformations not as him completely changing character but revealing the person who he truly is at his core. He's a very immature person who was granted incredible power and now wields that power with little to no impunity. At first when you see him in his base state he fights with a careful cautiousness because he knows hes vulnerable if only for a short period. With his first transformation you can see all caution thrown to the wayside as he practically basks in his own power. His second form is like a power trip to prove not just to the "sinner" that hes invincible but also to himself.
Dear lord, PLEASE give us an Izuru moment from the short story’s where he coldly kills the respawning remnants of Lille. It’s an AMAZING touch, from one “judge of sinners” to “another”🙏
That is what i have always thought and all the changes make sense even if people don't like it but to me it all made perfect sense + i feel like his holly form was very cool and the voice having an eco just felt right when you really try to imagine a holy being.
Exactly. He was always an insane zealot, and in each of his transformations, he gets more and more lost in his own hype and drops that mask of sanity he had in human form.
I don’t know if it was intentional but The trumpet reminded me of book of revelation/ apocalypse where the Angels sounded the trumpet before an apocalyptic event. The trumpet sound spooked me kinda haha
I think when shunsui cut Lille's head off, he really did somewhat "kill" Lille. When he came back, what remained was less Lille, and more of his schrift given life with Lille as the base, which would explain the change in personality, appearance, and now the colors and voice. Somewhat like his schrift grants immortality so potent that it persists even when the host has died.
I do wish that was explained at all so people wouldn't have to speculate without any basis. Oh what not Pernida and his Schrift also gonna come alive again??? 🙄
The name of Ise is known to almost everyone in Japan as the name of Ise Shrine. Therefore, the fact that Nanao had not used any swords so far and that he was a member of the Ise clan, these were in a position to confront the gods. Although these were sudden, there was a solid foreshadowing that could be considered. Mr. Kubo, who handles Japanese culture really well.
I missed it during the manga but it’s really setting in how much of a tragic character Kyoraku is. He’s lost enough ppl to know that honor doesn’t save lives.
Shirō Sagisu is an absolute genius. I just can’t stop praising this episode. This is actually my favorite episode in the series so far. Magnificent OST, no words to explain how much this episode hit me honestly. This whole cour, the animation quality and the OST has been so peak. Same goes for writing and the character development. Occasional comedy reliefs like Kon also made this cour my favorite. Can’t wait for the finale honestly. Absolute peak episode. 11/10 Two more and hopefully news for cour 4
Nanao's mother VA is Kikuko Inoue for those who are wondering. She voices characters such as Lust from FMAB, Palm from HxH, and a lot of older characters, probably the reason why MrTommo seems to be familiar with her voice, haha
One thing I've always liked about this backstory is that it highlights why Shunsui always doted on Nanao. Yes, he made the promise to her mom but she is his niece so he wanted to take care of her. I do like the idea that he old people that took care of her being her actual grandparents. The culture of nobles is pretty f-uped in that after sending her back to the Ise family nobody told Nanao that she had an uncle. And another thing that added to Shunsui's tragic story is that Nanao's mother chose to protect him by not telling Central 46 what she really did with the sword. She chose death over giving him up.
I always interpreted it that Lille was always insane but simply kept it under control. Even before his transformation we saw his unapologetic arrogance and zealot nature. But after all the disrespect Kyoraku put him through Lille's self control finally shatters and we see him for what he truly is.
Love the episode, though I was definitely hoping they'd change some things to make it feel less like a way-too-convenient solution that got pulled out of thin air. Both this fight and the Mayuri fight were definitely 10/10 on the asspull scale, but somehow with Mayuri it's more acceptable, because that's how ''scientist'' fights always seem to end. Still absolutely adore the episode, and the dynamic between the 2, even though it's conclusion felt very cheap.
We never got forshadowing for Lille being able to survive getting his head getting cut of. That should be death. So killing deus ex machina with deus ex machina is fine with me
Nanao is simply Rei-o tier, she holds a weapon on the level of dismembering him, nothing more to say. … Kubo just wanted to keep up the theme of women important to Mayuri and Shunsui saving them. He’s prioritized themes over consistency before.
Lille’s voice changing when he took on his second pure angelic form was awesome. He really becomes otherworldly, like the divine power he draws from, takes over his consciousness
did anyone notice the pine trees in the flashback background around nanaos mother house and the relation to his bankai? shunsui is a really sad person. his bankai release as a pine tree is directly connected to the physical setting of his sad past family-related events...that's why it is reiatsu is so depressing
Lille’s transformation has always been my favorite of yhwach’s royal guard. Always saw it as the most creative of the bunch, and this whole fight between him and Shunsui as maybe my favorite of the Royal Guard fights. A shame this didn’t have the scene down at Soul Society at the end; also includes one of my favorite panels from TYBW.
If you listen closely when Shunsui's saying you're kidding me, you can hear the grotesque screaming Lille is doing as he's transforming. Really gives off the feeling he completely abandoned his former self for power.
WHAT IF Kubo created Lille because he needed a way to introduce Shinken Hakkyōken? 🤔 Also, I don’t think this fight is “controversial” anymore. Watching a lot of reactions and nearly everyone is loving this episode, Lille’s form, and Nanao’s Zanpakutou. No one’s questioning it like we did back in the day which is nice. I think its introduction in the anime goes down a lot better than it did in the manga.
Anime rendered this beautifully, but I can see why the fight is still controversial. While I love Kubo’s theming for this fight, familial zanpakuto are something that really should have been made more specific in soul society or Nimaiya at the latest.
if you've gotten to the point where you don't question something just because it's animated well, there's something wrong. The technical side is obviously important when your medium is animation, but that doesn't justify bad writing. Deus ex machinas are inherently bad. And anyway, no: saying that Lille Barro exists to justify Shinken is pure coping. The first step is to accept that authors are human like us, and therefore prone to making mistakes.
This episode was absolutely beautiful, and I absolutely loved the change from green to gold for his vollstandig change. Also, I do believe we’ll still get Izuru’s appearance as well as the extra Lille clones, but I think it’ll be something of an addition for later episodes. After all, his clones are a way of reminding the soul reapers and the watchers/readers that the war isn’t over. Just imagine tho if we get an anime only fight between Izuru and the clones Also, I agree about Nanao’s fear of fighting. It really makes her character that much greater. She’s not been in a fight before, and as such, she hasn’t taken an injury before. Her fear is very synonymous with the average soldier in any military. They don’t want to fight, and they don’t want to die. Even being close to the battlefield is terrifying, and taking an injury during such a fight is just as if not more terrifying than just being there to see everything happening
Would have meant more if Kubo had actually done something with her character before this fight. I want to love this fight but can't because so much of it just comes out of nowhere. Liked the Shinsui stuff but man the Nanao stuff is roughly handled.
@@sammydray5919 I very much enjoyed the battle, but I do agree that the Shinken Hakkyoken was outta nowhere. At the very least, they shoulda teased it at the beginning of the fight as Nanao left Shunsui to inform the others or was on the way back to reach Shunsui. Hell, another spot coulda been before the second invasion while everyone was training. Nanao left to her thoughts as Shunsui was taking charge as head captain
@otakugameraquarius1883 Yeah. Even something like Nimaiya or Ichibei hinting towards it could have worked somewhat when the first came down to soul society. Like how Tenjiro hinted Unohana to step up, Ichibei could have hinted towards Ise clan and Nimaiya could have hinted towards Shinken Hakkyoken. Honestly anything could have been better than the nothing build up we got 😅
Kubo could just make shinken hakkyoken "the sword that defeat the soul king" and a lil bit foreshadowing and make nanao story more believeable, not just mcguffin to kill lil baro
Broski, I think you missed something small but importable about kyokotsu and Shinken. Shinken isn’t Kyokotsu. It was birthed to conceal Kyokotsu. Doesn’t mean that Shunsui now has 1 sword, he still will be a dual wielder. If anything it just appears that Shinken was hidden in the void of Kyokotsu.
And it is said that Kyokotsu was created by Katen to hide Shinken Hakkyoken, and there was also a hint in Katen Kyokotsu's Kaigo. I can understand it in Japanese, but there are only words related to Katen in Kaigo, and there is no mention of Kyokotsu. So Kubo was definitely thinking about this setting about Ise from the beginning.
The issue with that is that isn't even subtle foreshadowing, it's you won't know this is actual foreshadowing until it just fucking happens right at that moment with no other hints whatsoever. Like, it's still bad writing in my opinion
@NoahToledo-xo5pj Yeah, but this is like introducing a random side character whose last name is "Godsmash" and has no relevance to the overarching plot throughout the entirety of the series then randomly when everyone is getting beaten up by God, this same side character who hasn't been in the story much at all shows up and is like, "by the way, I hail from the Godsmash clan. We are cursed with this destructive ability that allows us to smash the power of a God and destroy them." Like, okay their last name had a very literal meaning at the end but that doesn't change the fact of how stupid the execution of it all actually was.
The anime unfortunately did little to resolve the questionable writing of Shinken Hakkyoken, but it absolutely succeeded in at least making it feel incredibly cinematic. The visuals and sound design in this episode went far beyond my expectations.
@@franky6983it came from out of nowhere. We didnt even know about the ise clan let alone a weapon that may or may not have cut the damn soul king himself. It was implemented in such a jarring way, it's not good. I like kubo but let's be real now
I always loved the artistic direction Kubo took with Lille's final form. Like a biblically accurate angel of sorts, an otherworldly messenger of God itself that is both bizarre and terrifying to behold.
they downgraded Lille. From a one shot one kill sniper to a pokemon arceus. Lille original form is already strong enough. Its just like aizen his hypnosis base form is already untouchable but he decide to downgrade himself into an alien
Yes he is. The Seraphim specifically, also called “the burning ones” due to them being described as fiery beings (for example their wings are fire). Seraphim are also said to be highest ranking angels and closest to God. Lille makes/has references to all of that.
6:50 They did nailed it 7:39 his neck is longer 8:29 the curse comes out of nowhere and opens a lot of questions that needs development. 9:30 no lil backstory 10:05 he delivered well 11:18 his half god more like 11:50 in the opening was great and now delivering it was awesome 12:20 simp for Aizen to betray you later and be part of the plan 13:15 hairpins [i really like how he say why people give me their precious relics that have burden ] 14:20 14:07‼️📌 [46 is kind of corrupted] now this is important for the future. SHUNSUI must spread his connections and increase his power among aristocrats and nobels so he can have some control in central 46 cause they can be manipulate easily.
15:23 academic and kido not fight so much we didn't even see her in arrancar arc do something! 18:00 kept the injuries and he takes it heavy here unlike the manga half good
15:40 I think the criticism was, how the eff is she a lieutenant in a military organization with 0 combat experience when said organization gets into large scale disputes every other week
@@SanthoshPanneerselvam-m5k I know. It's made worse by the fact that both the story and fans hype her up as some great Kido master or something. I never liked Nanoa Ise, and that still hasn't changed for me
Her being a kido master makes her better than most of the guys in squad 8 most likely. Better to be super good at kido than have a mediocre zanpaktou like most non lieutenant and captain Shinigami do. Shinigami have other ways to fight without zanpaktou, look at Yoruichi who was a captain without one. So yeah, Nanao was likely more talented than the other squad 8 members and she’s also smart to boot so she rightfully chosen for lieutenant. As for why none of this translated to the battlefield, well that was Shunsui’s personal choice to not let her fight and gain that experience. She was still worthy of the position. Creating a barrier capable of keeping Ywhach right hand man at bay is nothing to scoff at
The pure destructive potency of lilles light based attacks were well displayed in this episode imo. The fact he was defeated and scatted by the light from his trompete showed that reflecting it was the right choice, i was concerned it would've been a combination of destruction from both light AND sound but perhaps the light being reflected also deflected the sound waves? Also i was thinking earlier, if quincy attacks all have the power of 'destruction' then lilles light would also contain that power meaning anything hit by that light should be erased from existence.
@Grayson-Winchester damn you might be onto something there. Since they have soul erasure power level, physical matter would be even less difficult for them.
yet again, pierrot NEVER seems to dissappoint, i cannot believe how well they've been handling this entire arc so far, and its probbaly gonna get better and better
It was a fantastic episode. OST and Art direction are top notch. I was just hoping that they could have added a little flashback more on Shinken Hakkyoken maybe related to Soul King or something since we're getting a large amount of anime additions but I guess not or maybe we will get more about it on THAT arc in the future.
Meh, animation and ost was good but narratively speaking, it's still a deus ex machina moment, and they have no reason not to fix this now since they literaly fixed the issues of tybw so far. Also Nanao deflecting the Trumpet didn't have the same impact it had on the manga but still a good eps ig
Idk why but I get the vibe that shinken hakkyouken was the sword that split reio. Lille appears again in 8 parts after trumpete. Each of these 8 are equally alive. She never killed him. Reio has his arms legs and heart cut out. We have 4 limbs, 1 body, 1 heart. That’s only 6. I’m assuming Gremmy is the brain. Not sure what the last one would be.
@ was that in CFYOW? I haven’t read it yet. If it’s a nail it would make sense that it was just a sliver. Idk what other body part would make sense really? Eyes perhaps? But it looks like reio still has his. I just think that since shinken activates on lille and nanao makes such a point of it activating successfully that it has to do with the fact that lille has inherited the blood of the soul king. And the number 8 seems to be of some great significance to the use of this weapon, given the name and the fact that it really did split lille into 8. We’re so close to 8 soul king major fragments that it seems so within reach for the blade to serve that purpose. It’s also a noble weapon which would make so much sense given that I’m oretty sure from what I’ve heard of CFYOW that they orchestrated some part of reios fragmentation. In any case I think there so much lore about that sword that didn’t get touched because this was about nanao and shunsui first and foremost. To that end, I absolutely love this fight. We’ll get more shinken info once it’s purpose is more important than our characters.
This episode was as peaceful as it was exciting. With Shunsui and Nanao on death‘s door and their family flashback. My only grain of salt is that Kira wasn’t in the final scene. The way Nanao took down Lillie was cold but our half dead executioner is colder.
A long time ago, Ywhach was lonely and while wandering around, came upon a chicken. It followed him around, so he befriended it, and as time went on, he named it Lille Barro. And eventually as time moved on, he decided his only friend needed something more. Ywhach saw the potential in his little chicken friend, Lille, and decided to give him a Schrift. Shock and awe in Ywhach's eyes, the Schrift turned the chicken into a real boy! And the rest, they say, is history.
I kinda like the idea that Lille technically dies during Shunsui's bankai. His new transformation is more just his mind and body being forced back, but without his soul or whatever made him him. This leads to the idea that his next "form" is pure instinct, so that not even his mind has returned. I've always liked the idea of a being who isn't allowed to die, and is just forced to resurrect over and over again.
Stunning adaptation. I personally like that Nanao has a special ability like this with her otherwise ceremonial weapon. It’s OP but I think it’s ok for a story to have a couple things that feel out of bounds. Keeps it interesting. The backstory behind it just really nails it for me. Ugh. Beautiful
I definitely agree that it makes it feel way more like Lille has lost his mind in this owl form, and I kinda like that. It feels like Shunsui pretty much killed Lille and this form is just borrowed time, and even if he survives and lives a long life, he'll never really be the same. It kinda recontextualizes all of his obsession with sinners as him being on a crazed, manic high.
Shunsui has lost almost all the people that he loves, and in this war he lost everybody in like 6 days, and he still smiling no matter what, bringing peace to the rest of shinigamis and he never complain! A true leader 😭
This was the best episode this Cour, No Cgi Owl Lille, everything looked gorgeous, character driven for my GOAT head captain, a young Ukitake cameo, and that mfing trumpet.
I like the bird transformation, which makes it more angelical with a robotic voice. I wont say it changed lillel I think he is the most attached and religious of them all
It honestly depends on how much damage Lille is capable of taking before he can actually die, considering Haschwalth’s shield allows him to give an absurd amount of damage to his opponent Lille would have to finish the fight quickly before he did that.
Because he still is the strongest sternritter. He doesn't have huge range like lille does and he probably doesn't have as much destructive power as lille, but his power does counter lille perfectly. What I do have a problem with is that people watch this and still think Yamamoto beats Lille Barro lol. No he doesn't.
As an anime only, I loved this fight and seeing the true "origin" for Shunsui's whole getup was really tragic and beautifully done. And I love how Nanao's own zanpakuto was teased and now done against Lille
I went into this video expecting a "Idk how to feel about Lilles voice" but I'm pleasantly surprised to have not gotten that Tommo quote I honestly think they're completely cutting out Izuru and the flamingos because it would feel out of place in the beginning of the next episode but maybe they can add it in the middle or somewhere in Ep 1 of cour 4 Also this is probably my favorite episode in all of Bleach now
I've seenn it just now, it is amongst one of my favorite episodes already this season. Lille's divine form and zealous attitude + godlike powers made it seem like a really difficult challenge and you can feel the danger he posseses. Animation+Music+Voice acting 10/10 this episode.
10/10 Episode The anime does a so much better job at conveying the atmosphere and emotion behind all the scenes . Lille's owl form was everything i expected it to be, being simultaneously goofy and terrifying, the bit with him breathing out flames after transforming was simply badass.
With manga sometimes it depends on the reader's personal condition or mental space when reading if they can interpret emotions and atmosphere properly. But yeah the anime makes it easier since it won't need the reader's imagination to interpret the panels
i never really understood peoples issues with all the counters fighters have in Bleach. Its literally like that in almost every anime ever. Someone always has a perfect counter or ability to defeat their enemy or some bs maguffin lol
Damn, how awesome Barro's voice sounded in this episode. On the one hand, he is quite funny, on the other hand, he is even a little threatening)) Well, visually, one of the best episodes in TYBW. 10/10.

Kubo is such a master at foreshadowing, I think that we as fans have become spoiled with it. Plot doesnt always have to have foreshadowing. Its just as common a literary device to introduce someone or something and then expand on it. I guess thats why I was never as harsh as others when these chapter came out. That said we have arguably had a couple more points of foreshadowing in the anime. Adnyeus looks to have a similar sword in a flash back and the Noble families were said to have used “relics” in their betrayal.
I love Kubo but I HEAVILY disagree with your take. Stuff like this actually needs foreshadowing because how critical it is to the plot. Foreshadowing or really any kind of proper build up is what makes these moments actually worth a damn. Like if we can do literally anything now, whats to stop the story from just randomly having Yuzu show up and just make her have a special power that completely eradicates Yhwach?? Would have made as little sense as this Nanao fight did. Or just have Yoruichi pull up her Zanpakuto, and beat Yhwach because she can do some nonsense like "outpacing the future you saw" Or some garbage like that. Not everything needs foreshadowing or build up but some stuff, especially stuff like this absolutely NEEDS foreshadowing my dude or you risk eradicating any stakes in the story because whats the point if you can literally pull a deus ex machina to win???
Even back in the day, when the manga was being released, I always assumed that Nanao's sword was the one that cut apart the Soul King and dispelled his powers, and I was surprised to see so many people failing to put two-and two together and realizing that the "God-Killing Sword" might somehow be connected to the god who literally had his body cut apart.
@@kamikazelemming1552 Because whether its the soul king's sword or not is meaningless. It could just have been a sword relic nothing to do that much with soul king and it could have worked if done properly. What makes this sword reveal so controversial is that it comes out of nowhere with no set up or even a hint towards it.
Episode was so good! Almost made me tear up about the nanao and kyoraku backstory. The fight on the otherhand.. it was there. Lillie hearing (aswell as experiencing, having part of his hand cut off) that Nanao zanpaktou can reflect his god power, decided to fire a blast anyway and proceed to die with it
Mind-blowing episode it was. Lille was outstanding and superbly animated with awesome ost. With backstory and action this episode set the bar so high for BLEACH anime.
One thing that I think makes the “deus ex machina” if Nanao’s sword work at least a BIT better now is the additional context of this arc no longer being the end of the series. We could see more of her the sword in the future, POSSIBLY even in cour 4.
I totally agree that they nailed Lilles transformation, it feels so transcendental otherworldly and creepy its super unsettling in a way but it almost makes me feel aswell as if the form we originally see from Base Lille is somewhat of a disguise as if he took that form to hide his more hideous true identity as a blinding angel of God something that what surely scare regular mortals off not including the overwhelming amount of power and light that he exudes in this form outside his base two. I am in awe honestly and absolutely appreciative for what the animators have done here, especially as someone who was always off put by this final form in the manga I even thought it was kinda goofy looking but here they've really nailed it.
The concern that Mayuri showed for Nemu is overshadowed (Kageoni, anyone?) by the intense care that Shunsui showed for his niece. The strength of that, IMHO, is what helped Nanao to pull off the impossible. Great stuff!
@@aaronwalcott513 You thought those were comparable? Mayuri doesn't give a fuck by most conventional standards, while Shunsui will move heaven and earth to protect his niece, the child of two of his favorite people.
I've got a very bitter sweet feeling about the whole thing, this was THE fight I've been waiting years for, Lille is one of if not my favorite sternritter, I love Nanao, and Kyōraku is my favorite Bleach character period. This fight was everything I could've imagined and more, definitely worth the wait but now that it's over I feel kinda sad, like I'm still extremely looking forward to the rest of the series but this was truly the big moment for me.
I always loved this fight, and Lille's Seraphim design looked perfect in animation.
Good, flashbacks interrupting all the time but ok, I didn't like the voice choice for Lille form, really awkward.
Whoever animated Lille was clearly having the time of their life. The way his head shifts and contorts was so creepy.

When I first read the manga, my internal imaginary voice for Lille completely changed to something high pitched when he went into bird mode due how different he felt from his human form. I wasn’t expecting them to actually do that
The voice was really bad, it sounds like Kon, it had to be more deep and imposing, it's an angelic form and not a comical character.

I always interpreted lilles personality change as him getting high from his godly powers. Throughout his vollstandich and the fight lille is slowly ascending into godhood and the transition of green to yellow in his wings really show that. The fact that he liked being referred to as a god (which has to be some form of blasphemy to yhwach) is what stuck out to me
Agreed, from base form to first Vollstandig to Owl form he gets somewhat more intoxicated with each step

I feel like Nanao's Shinken Hakkyoken feels like an asspull because of cultural differences.
As far as I know, her surname is a reference to Ise shrine en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ise_Shrine
Which is supposed to contain a holy mirror en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yata_no_Kagami
So for Japanese readers it might feel like a British story with a character with the surname Pendragon; most British readers would probably guess at a link to King Arthur
So if that character ended up being decended from a line of kings and getting a holy sword we'd just go "oh so it's Excalibur" and not think about it too much.
Good point. Still, it would be nice to place the Shinken Hakkyoken in the context of the creation of the current Bleach universe.
@MrGksarathy Oh definitely, it could have been handled better. Maybe have Yhwach mention it as the sword that was used to dismember Reio

Just like Ulqiorra, Ichigo, and Aizen all having multiple transformations that ascend them to higher planes of existence.
Lille deserved his punishment, an arrogant Angel.

Did you also notice that the hole left in Warwelt was also shaped like a Giant Moon. Youre right on the money pal.
true

Wow, Belldandy.
True. Still, with Nanao's implied romantic feelings for Shunsui, it might have been better if he were more upfront about that.
Yes, that’s what gives away that he lost himself completely and the transformation is out of his control.
Lille straight up gave a “…Mugetsu.”moment with that first arm chop holy ray move 🙂
Imo, seeing it all this material at once helps a lot, specialy the flashbacks.
To be fair, its still a stupid way to end the fight.
A very pretty and well-animated way, but stupid regardless.
People will look past any faults if it looks good.
Still an anticlimactic way to finish the fight and Shunsui's Bankai was wasted for nothing.
The alien and eldritch behavior of Lille’s new form works SO MUCH BETTER animated than in the manga.
Just imagine tho if we get an anime only fight between Izuru and the clones
Also, I agree about Nanao’s fear of fighting.
You mean, Kyokotsu aka Okyo was made to conceal Shinken, there right? Not the other way round.
@@Azractor86yessir 😂😅
Honestly I thought the exact same thing all these years until I watched the episode yesterday haha
The sword reflects "the power of God", not "gods power", there's a difference.
I knew when I first watched this that this was about to be a frenzy. 😂😂 once I saw the trumpet my head wet right to revelations
This was way better than the manga between the set up to it and the music it was just perfect 👌
Is it just me or is bleach more interesting whenever Ichigo and his crew aren’t the main focus?!

something something Ise surname was foreshadowing for the curse
Also that final music man. That OST.
Can you explain? I cant remember
@@Vicmagician I dont recall the details. But Nanao's last name is apparently a reference to actual Japanese folklore
The issue with that is that isn't even subtle foreshadowing, it's you won't know this is actual foreshadowing until it just fucking happens right at that moment with no other hints whatsoever. Like, it's still bad writing in my opinion
@@soulkibble1466 I mean if somebody called Wolf McBigbad ends up eating a grandma I wouldn't be surprised.
It's really not that bad
Why is it questionable? I think a divine slayer weapon is pretty common in asian stories

I always loved the artistic direction Kubo took with Lille's final form. Like a biblically accurate angel of sorts, an otherworldly messenger of God itself that is both bizarre and terrifying to behold.
This episode was BEAUTIFUL!! The extended flashbacks make this so much better.
I think alot of people missed the fact that women who adopted Nanao is the same granny we saw in Ukitake flashback
they downgraded Lille. From a one shot one kill sniper to a pokemon arceus. Lille original form is already strong enough. Its just like aizen his hypnosis base form is already untouchable but he decide to downgrade himself into an alien
I always felt Lille was inspired by biblical accurate angels to some extent
I think this episode really nailed that vibe
Yes he is. The Seraphim specifically, also called “the burning ones” due to them being described as fiery beings (for example their wings are fire). Seraphim are also said to be highest ranking angels and closest to God. Lille makes/has references to all of that.
I cant believe those eyes are just free flowing around his owl face
6:50 They did nailed it
7:39 his neck is longer
8:29 the curse comes out of nowhere and opens a lot of questions that needs development.
9:30 no lil backstory

15:23 academic and kido not fight so much we didn't even see her in arrancar arc do something!
18:00 kept the injuries and he takes it heavy here unlike the manga half good
15:40 I think the criticism was, how the eff is she a lieutenant in a military organization with 0 combat experience when said organization gets into large scale disputes every other week
Its nepotism bro, she is niece of the captain
Creating a barrier capable of keeping Ywhach right hand man at bay is nothing to scoff at
@@rell0778 Kido mastery probably pushed her up, but 0 combat experience is inexcusable for someone that high ranking.
@@Oromanowarful in other words, he reached dragonball power level
There’s the whole ‘nail of the Soul King’ that has to do with Matsumoto, but that’s likely just a sliver that’s broken off.
@@alaudbrotherNails of the Soul King are just small fragments of Adnyeus that aren't full organs.
@@alaudbrother CFYOW pretty much confirms that it's just a term for fragments of Adnyeus that aren't discrete organs.
They really channeled the Toho Co logo effect for that Shinken Hakkyoken animation
Hahah nice. I see what you did there
This episode was as peaceful as it was exciting. With Shunsui and Nanao on death‘s door and their family flashback.
My only grain of salt is that Kira wasn’t in the final scene.
The way Nanao took down Lillie was cold but our half dead executioner is colder.
I think lille becomes multiple little birds and these get owned by kura and others
@ Division 12 should have picked them up
A long time ago, Ywhach was lonely and while wandering around, came upon a chicken.
Not really lets just say he got split personality when he transformed to that form
It truly is amazing how the anime made Lille, who I liked the least of the schutzstaffel, my complete favorite so far.
Trompete was glorious. The charging, the yellow wings, the sound, just glorious.
This was the best episode this Cour, No Cgi Owl Lille, everything looked gorgeous, character driven for my GOAT head captain, a young Ukitake cameo, and that mfing trumpet.
I like the bird transformation, which makes it more angelical with a robotic voice. I wont say it changed lillel I think he is the most attached and religious of them all
people will watch this and still say jugram is the strongest sternritter
Lille and Gerard laught at them
😂😂 he has the ALMIGHTY that's why
Jugram should be the strongest non-elite sternritter
Dude went through a whole digimon evolution to get obliterated by a cricket bat
Why on earth would lille let nanao cut his arm. These quincy arent too clever
Never have a clicked on a video so quickly
I went into this video expecting a "Idk how to feel about Lilles voice" but I'm pleasantly surprised to have not gotten that Tommo quote
I honestly think they're completely cutting out Izuru and the flamingos because it would feel out of place in the beginning of the next episode but maybe they can add it in the middle or somewhere in Ep 1 of cour 4
Also this is probably my favorite episode in all of Bleach now
GOATED episode. The animation, art and sound was amazing and I love looking back into shunsui's past
I've seenn it just now, it is amongst one of my favorite episodes already this season. Lille's divine form and zealous attitude + godlike powers made it seem like a really difficult challenge and you can feel the danger he posseses. Animation+Music+Voice acting 10/10 this episode.
10/10 Episode
The anime does a so much better job at conveying the atmosphere and emotion behind all the scenes .
Absolutely incredible episode! Maybe I didn’t notice the manga but it’s crazy how little of that island is left after Lille’s final attack. Incredible
@3:52 Suddenly, somewhere Tim Curry looks up from what he is doing and scoffs nostalgically: "I wonder why Im thinking of Ferngully now?", he wonders.

To experience bleach properly, you must have some nice bassy ear buds. Its freakin glorious.
I highly doubt it but that would be nice.
It was character development for Mayuri to learn and care more for future Nemuri number 8. He didn't care for Nemu (number 7).
