The Hi Hat part on the second part of the verse should be straight quarter notes, not Eighths. He nails the guitar solo part exceptionally well. Really a great cover.
I’ve been listening to this song for years, but every time I see someone execute that double bass pedal so flawlessly, it literally leaves me in pure awe. Well done man!

Hey, Alexander Paiva., don't get shaken by those 1.5K jealous haters, they're totally WAY OFFBASE. I'm sure of that because I've recorded Mike Portnoy before, at least three times, with John Petrucci, and Jordan Rudess by himself twice. Your footwork was exemplary, and this cover was outstanding. 'Nightmare' itself is a much more difficult heavy rock selection to perform than many people realize. Prior to running FOH live sound at major venues, recording, and eventually becoming an Audio Mastering Engineer, I was a double technology Masters graduate from MIT and accomplished keyboardist that hung around with many musicians from Berkley in the Boston area. When I got tired of the 'think tank' jobs in my late 20's, I joined a touring rock band on the road with an exclusive booking agent out of Chicago. THAT agency would have hired you in a heartbeat for a tribute band, or any traveling progressive rock group. Your chops appear to be outstanding, and taking the time to learn such an intense tune such as THIS one says a LOT about the determination and drive of an individual. I'm retired now, but I sure as hell can still recognize and separate bullshit from real talent. I believe YOU'RE the real deal kid. Best of luck in whatever you decide to pursue for a career. @@Paisteuser8 Oh, by the way, guess what brand mics I used on stage and in the studio??? Same as you've got on your kit! They were outstanding. He was VERY happy with the results. Loved those mics!!!
And in 99% of Alexander’s covers - I don’t see many differences from the original drum sounds. It sounds way better in some covers! Especially in this one.
Wow. You seem to have shared a background similar to Tom Scholz in terms of MIT and being an engineer/musician from the Boston area. Do you know him personally?
You know it’s gonna be good when you see a full kit. There’s a few pretenders on RUclips that think they’re good with just a snare and a kick. This right here is the business.

1:11 mate... I really have to say that... you are the first guy I heard that plays that part correct! Portnoy really does that break on the hi-hat! congrats!
Awesome job. So relaxed and fluid. I completely see the ergonomic advantage Danny Carey speaks of in his Vic Firth profile regarding the remote hi hat being in the center of his large kit. If you got one and moved yours to the center, you’d eliminate that long crossover reach, bring in the left components, and ultimately increase the force behind your left hand snare attack. Relocating the existing center splash wouldn’t be hard.
