In case you don't already know it, this is one of the greatest intros of 80s hair metal. Follow it up with the rest of the song, and you're in the greatest generation of music. Nice job man
Riffs like these will always be infinitely more interesting than that one-dimensional, percussive E chord bouncing of most modern metal. There’s so much light and shade to the riff work throughout this whole song, and such a strong sense of melody. Ratt was one of a kind.
"Ratt would ultimately become one of the top-selling and most popular metal acts of the decade, issuing four consecutive platinum albums" He played with Ozzy, Dokken, Bryan Adams, Whitesnake. He's endorsed by one of the worlds leading guitar companies. He's been on the cover of several oft the biggest Guitar Magazines several times. He was booked for several movie soundtracks. "Best guitar player" awards. Many musicians, guitar kings, are praising Demartini over and over again over the years. What you wrote here is utter rubbish. You are just one of the thousands "This guitarist is underrated" commenters that has absolutely no clue what he's talking about or what the word underrated means.
@@rilianriggs4620 Not sure. but warren and robin always had a problem with each other. Who had the lead in a song who came in to the song to late. and to me it always seemed like everyone took up for warren, as for me robin was easy to talk to. Hell i loved that guy didn't even know he was doing drugs. Until the end.
That's awesome! All played perfectly and with authentic sound. The solo was really good considering how hard it is to hear from the original song. This is one of my favorite riffs of all time.
Damn fine work! I'm in the process of re-learning the song on guitar after having played exclusively bass for the last few years. Such a great song. I miss the 80's.
0.56 I'm glad I'm not the only one that hears that note ringing in my ear. Every time I play this song I do that same thing slide up to that note. Cool.
awesome seeing youger genertions sitting in there room on the floor making exact replicas of stuff we could never come close to sounding like and having the talent to pull that off !!!...HAts off to you !!!!
This popped up in my recommended list, and I thought I'd click on it just on a whim. I'm glad I did! You really nailed every part. Well done, and cool old Charvel.
To start, excellent song & guitar (Even though I am and always will be a Ibanez RG 570/550 collector/player) but Ratt had it together in these days with Robbin Crosby’s rhythm and Warren Demartini’s leads were ALWAYS the best 🔥 & they were my favorite guitarist duo of any band during this time with Def Leppard’s Steve Clark and Phil Collen in a close 2nd place!#🎸🤘🏻🔥#(Justoneplayer’sOpinion)#IbanezRG❤#Ratt#🐀#the80’s#”TheBestofTimes!”
Wow! Honestly I thought the whole beginning was fake because it sounded so perfectly on. I couldn't tell the difference between this and the real song playing. Guitar was totally spot on in sound, timing, everything.
For high school graduation I got the same guitar in black. I've had dozens of guitars come and go since then but that is the One I wish I had back. I think I gifted it to a buddy who had some real talent.
Model 2 Charvel!!!! I have the same exact guitar!!! I bought it at Perry’s Music in Villa Park, IL in November of 1987 and I still have it today!!! Great playing Hoss!!! Great guitar tone!!!
Back in the day, you kind of had to pick your favorite band (high school) and everyone would judge you. I chose Ratt and ill still ride for them all these years later. You may notice they completely disregard key (or theyre So advanced i can't follow) you've got A to F, there's a strong E. On the face of it it's totally bonkers, but it works amazingly well.
My first guitar was a Charvel with the Jackson headstock and the shark tooth inlays. Had a humbucker and 2 single coils with three 2 position toggle switches. Was dark blue. Guitar perfection.
That was so ridiculously accurate to the original that I wasn't even hundred percent sure it was legit for quite a while. Jesus, Warren couldn't play it like that today. Granted, he was probably choose that, but if asked to play it dead-on, he couldn't.
Very cool old Charvel. Looks like a Model 2. Single humbucker with a Floyd. I think the Model 1 was the same but the trem was more like a Strat non- floater.
In case you don't already know it, this is one of the greatest intros of 80s hair metal. Follow it up with the rest of the song, and you're in the greatest generation of music. Nice job man
Decades have gone by. Still one of my favorite metal guitar tunes...simple...crisp. :)
Killer intro riff
Riffs like these will always be infinitely more interesting than that one-dimensional, percussive E chord bouncing of most modern metal. There’s so much light and shade to the riff work throughout this whole song, and such a strong sense of melody. Ratt was one of a kind.
Both can sound rocking and although I prefer modern metal stuff I can definitely see what you mean
Ratt is legendary
Ikr i mean i love the chugging Sound too but after i began to discover bands like ratt the shit i listened to started to Sound so dull
well said
This is because bands/players like that actually encompassed melody into their sound. It’s something that can’t be taught.
This is the most "true to studio" guitar cover of Lay It Down on YT. Many, many props.
Warren was always underrated. He never got the attention he deserved.

@@mantelmann13 settle down Gov-ner! Go ave a spot o tea! 😆. Feel better now?
Underrated by who ? What are you talking about ? Get a clue bro you have no idea what underrated means.
He's not underrated. Crosby was in this riff as well. Don't forget him
It's great to see someone who knows how to use the volume knob
I was on the road crew for two years Robin would be so proud if he was alive today !!.. Keep Rocking
Thanks!!
@Vend Master Have tons of awesome stories not sure where to put them lots on drunk and naked chick stories....
@@pooniegoesto9354 put em here lol, would be awesome to hear about it
Didn't Warren write that riff?

This and Unchained are my two favorite opening riffs of the 80s!
This man studied every nuance of this song
Great job,rock on bro ski!
Yes
....or he studied SATSUMA's video. 😆
@The Ghost of SW627 I think this cover is better
I clicked on this just to hear the cool opening riff, but it was so good that I listened to the whole thing. Well done!
As a guy who grew up in this era and had this on vinyl, you nailed it. Warren DeMartini was one of the better lead guitarist of the day.
I was a teen in the 80s. This brings back great memories. That charvel is sweet too!
Nailed that intro right on the head! Amazing job!!
Thanks!! I'm very happy!
Good to meet a fellow Waylon lol
That's awesome! All played perfectly and with authentic sound. The solo was really good considering how hard it is to hear from the original song. This is one of my favorite riffs of all time.
I love Ratt. My favorite 80's metal band.
Ratt is one of the more musically gifted hair bands of the 80s along with
cinderella and Britny Fox.
This dude has it going on! No jacking around just playing the song cause he digs it!!
BamBam Holyfeld Thanks!!
Nailed that one to the fence straight up. Amazing and accurate cover of one of the greatest rick riffs of all time!!
Back a year later to hear this AGAIN! So GOOD! 😉
Probably my single most favorite guitar riff off all time
honestly the best cover of lay it down on youtube, greeting man, you are awesome :D
MrTaboret Thanks! I'm so happy! XD
@@ukiuki1001 I agree I didn't realize all the extra fills and cords
That old Charvel is amazing. My buddy bought a identical one brand new in waaaay back in '86 when we we're kids.
This has to be in the Top 3 Best 80s Guitar Riffs
i could listen to that riff 1000 times, great job!

That Robbin KING Crosby riff is still so mesmerizing and powerful!
Warran Demartini's Riff
My favorite still to this day! Robbin “King” 👑Crosby!#🎸🤘🏻🔥#(R.I.P.)#🐀
NAILED IT. Beautiful cover, one of the all time great riffs. Totally crushed it. Liked and Subscribed.
Warren DeMartini was/is Fucking Amazing! This intro is one of the best ever composed
except Robin wrote that riff
That’s a great Charvel
Great playing!!! I had a Charvel Charvette in neon orange, it was fun to play, miss that guitar! RATT-N-ROLL

Lord I miss that Charvel logo with the pointy headstock on it. Great playting!!
Incredible. Just, Incredible.
Incredible cover! Nicely done! That whole album was my go-to for exercising back in my youth.
This video deserves so much respect! Absolutely flawless from the GROUND up

Awesome job. Love how you can actually hear your guitar over the song. Rock on.
kjwildone18 Thanks!!!
Being a professional acoustic drummer for many moons I always admire a guitar player using the pinky finger.
Excellent job! Very good tone and ear.
Just when I thought I had this down correct…..I see this and see that I clearly do not!!
Nice job man. Back to the wood shed for me 👉🏻
This is the best cover of Lay It Down I've ever seen. Warren would be proud!
This one of the most hardest songs to learn when it came out

Never see the guy’s face…if I ever meet him I won’t know to thank him for such a great cover… hopefully he never changes socks
Kudos for being the first guy to demonstrate this in under 4 minutes. And without all the bla bla bla. 👍👍✌️🍻🇨🇦
God that guitar is beautiful. So simple, so sleek
amazing brother. and you absolutely nailed the tone! 2 thumbs up!
Jeremy Barfield thanks!!!
Amazing attention to detail
Let me clue you in on something, my friend. When you pick Ratt to cover on guitar, you show you have skills and taste. Ratt forever! 🐀
Love the Charvel ❤
I have that same guitar. I bought in 1990. Still have it!

Best of the best solo
My fave Ratt tune
Also, the 8 dislikes are from people who bought Danelctros still trying to learn the into to Smells Like Teen Spirit.
