Thanks for your honesty! It’s important to consider how turning your passion into your only financial support can really affect how it feels.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I totally relate to what you’re saying about your attitude changing from being happy about sales to seeing them as only a minor contribution to amount needed to cover bills. I’ve been feeling this. I’m looking to move from being a full time artist to getting a part time job to alleviate the pressure. Would love to see an update video on how things are going with your new routine if you’re comfortable sharing that xx

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who can relate to this feeling! I’ll have to make an update video now that I’m back to being a full-time artist again 🤣🤣🫣

Respect the honesty! I still aspire to make a living from my art, but I'm empowered by your message rather than discouraged. As an artist it's okay to have day jobs or a separate career to support yourself financially as an artist. The stability of income will help fuel your creativity at your most genuine self.
I recently got a part time job as Art Instructor and another part time admin job for a warehouse company. I still spare time in the day to create when I can. I feel even more inspired from the kids I work with at my art job.
Glad you're not giving up on your art! Hope your new job has been helpful giving you the financial ease and creative restoration you needed.

Thank you for your kind words, I completely agree! If someday creating the work I love can fully support my life, then maybe I’ll give it another try. For now I enjoy the balance and feel more inspired. 😃

I felt that way about booth fees. The pressure was to sell enough to make the booth fees. I stopped doing art shows

I’ve definitely done some shows that weren’t worth it at all after fees 🙁 I do love my local Saturday Market though, their fees aren’t much at all!!

Aww, thank you so much. I’m very excited for this new chapter and who knows, maybe I’ll find my way back to art full-time someday! For now I need a creative break. 😄

Hi Kayla, absolutely great message we appreciate your transparency!! Being a full time artist is extremely stressful when focusing on the monetary value instead of the healing aspect. Not to mention how lonely it can get!! I too am leaning towards pursuing a creative job.
Would love to hear an update on your new job!

I completely understand you. I’ve been where you been. I took on a contract freelance graphic position and I love it. It’s helped me so much to not put so much pressure on myself. Read the book Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. Amazing read for us artists.

Man, this is such a refreshing video - thank you for being so transparent and honest about this Kayla. The most important thing is that you tried - you can say you were once a full time artist but it didn't work out for you. You were at least brave enough to take that step and once day I hope to be brave enough to do the same.
Being a full time artist is a dream, but it's so draining and you're the only artist I've heard be totally open about it. You're an inspiration and I hope you don't mind me mentioning you and this video in my next RUclips video - more artists need to hear about this reality.
    We appreciate you!

Thank you, I really appreciate it! I agree, I have never really heard other artists being transparent about the absolute burnout and stress that comes along with doing art full-time!! I don’t mind at all 🥺

I understand us 1000% as a 35 year old artist who still lives with his parents and has made money in art here-and-there through commissions and pieces I’ve sold I’m really just burnt out at this point and I’m not sure even want a career in art anymore. I would much rather create for myself at this point, then to continue pursuing an art career. I just don’t know what my next move is going to be. I’m not passionate about anything else as much as art but I’ve sacrificed so much and haven’t really gotten anything in return

Build a safety blanket.. on though huge months where you have alot of invome save. Try to gave your alrwady pay for on the side in savings so you would feel so pressured.. Hope that make sense!

#"Art doesn't help." When you need to make a "consistant" income.👍😎 Takes the joy out of it for sure.Refocus girl!💖& do that. "Side hustle" I think a wise way to do it.& wishing you good luck with whatever your job opportunity is.There's no guarantees in art sales. & won't keep food on the table constistantly.☝️A great and positive way to earn a lil extra&spend a weekend though! Good Luck! Your art is beautiful! 💖👏👍😎😊🙂

Good for you! It is freedom being freed from the slavery of art and creativity. Move on and find new skills which are of interest to you. That’s what I did when I finally stopped doing what other people told me I should do. Art and creativity is like prostitution and getting rid of both is a breath of fresh air after being imprisoned.
