I'll never stop creating, as long as I live.
I spent a long time mulling over this, and I hope I articulated my feelings and intentions clearly. It's hard, but I do believe this is just the next chapter of this channel, not the end. :) The future is a mystery!
Thank you for your love and support, no matter what the future holds for you and me. I'll see you very soon!

this channel feels so safe and more like hanging out with a friend, who's showing you their interest at the time. as someone who shifts from one hyperfixation to another makes me feel very seen and comforts me, knowing i'm not a failure for not being able to "stick to a hobby".
I'm excited for the content thats to come dish!

Art block is a very real thing, and as a talented artist myself, I've taken a break as well. I was really into it while simultaneously taking an art class, but when that class ended I completely lost all motivation to paint. I wish I was more interested because I know I can paint really beautiful things, but for me, in order to paint something I need to be into it. I lack the discipline to force myself, so now i currently enjoy only doing art when I really feel like it, or when its commissioned and I actually am given a deadline. This is totally fine. You never lose your artistic abilities, it's like riding a bike essentially. You'll be fine. You are 100% not alone. I knew every artist can agree.

this is so relatable, I've also been swimming in books and reading this year and not doing much writing, and sometimes it makes me feel so guilty but honestly I just plan to ride the wave. I read like 12 books in 2021 after reading 75 "things" (books, short stories, plays, etc.) in 2020 and last year I read 23 books. the point is not the numbers themselves but that, like you said, interests ebb and flow and they change entirely and it's okay :) excited to see your next video!

Whenever i feel unmotivated, I rewatch your previous videos about art and taking time to gain inspiration again and get doodling, following your advice. Your videos on this channel help me a lot and push me to keep doing what I love, which is drawing until my wrist and fingers hurt lol. I thank you for that, and I look forward to future videos where you sit down and talk and get real. You are truly an eye-opener for me!

A couple books Id reccomend are:
    Six of crows
    The poppy ware trilogy
Percy Jackson and the olympians- (Dont let the fact that its written for kids hinder you its so good and for all ages!)
These are just some of my favorites!

You tell 'em gorly ✨ Don't ever be sorry for wanting to do what makes you feel alive and happy - I'm so here for anything you delicately or chaotically put down on the table. I feel the same way about feeling so different as a person every so often, different wants and needs creatively, mentally, and spiritually, but it's never a bad thing to feel like you need change and being honest with yourself is so important. I'm excited to see where this channel will go in future!

I really enjoyed watching your personal growth with your art and felt it was really relatable. interestingly enough I also haven't really drawn in 6 months either but I've become ok with that which is something i used to be bad about too. i'm looking forward to whatever creative journey you go through next and will definitely check out your reading content too!

Dish, when you made this channel, I was SO excited. I was also in my art phase and I even bought an iPad and Procreate just to do art with you (also on my own time). But then, I didn't do art for a year. I sold the iPad, deleted the drawing app, and quit art. Do I regret it? HIGHLY. I have been wanting to do art again but I don't have the tools to do the kind of art I want to anymore (digital art). So, getting to the point, did I subscribe to this channel only for the purpose of doing and learning art with you? Yes. But I also REALLY enjoyed you talking about the deeper meaning behind learning new difficult things. It was almost like...therapy to me. You taught me life skills, art skills, and many many other useful things in life. I'm not a huge reader even though I try to be, but I know that whatever you do, whether it's playing genshin, playing other various games, vlogging, art, or even reading, I will like it. I think I can speak for the majority of your community when I say, you give us peace and cozy vibes. You are almost my safe place online. When feeling stressed or anxious, I can go to any of your channels and hear your voice, learn your life lessons, and laugh along with you. We love you Dish. Thank you for all that you do for us. We (or I) recognize your hard work.

I was burnout from art for about six months, i tried to create but i was only forcing myself and i wasnt enjoying it, in fact i ended up hating everything that i created or tried to i guess. Then i just stopped. And only now, two months later after stopping, i think i finally found my spark again. Ive been slowly creating and posting again. And thats totally ok ! I really needed the time to heal from the burnout, and now im doing better. I wish you to do whats best for you, even if it means stopping art for now. That doesnt mean its a bad thing, like you said, its just a new chapter. I want art to be fun to you. Wishing you the best, dish

Hi dish!!! As an artist of 10 years, I totally get it! Ive been so in and out of art that there’s been months where i just stopped creating completely or didn’t post anything on my account because I felt it wasn’t good enough to be shown off publicly. I personally always come back to drawing and creating because art has been apart of me for such a long time and always will be. Art is everywhere, its in everything you see and do. Art can be practically anything as long as you make it and call it art with your hands/mind. So what im trying to say is, never feel pressured to continue, especially if you’re just forcing it out just to make something for yourself or everyone else. Art comes to you when it wants to and it’s all about what you personally make of it. I will always be supportive of your art journey even if it ends here for now. I’m very proud of your progress so far and thank you for allowing us to be apart of it! Much love

As someone who started doing art in 2021, I completely resonate with your loss of motivation to make art. It's awesome when you're in the mood to make art and you spend weeks or months making art regularly. It feels like you're just gonna keep getting better, and this time will be different - you're gonna be as good as all of your inspirations one day if you keep it up. But for me, every single time I end up just stopping and not picking art back up for months at a time despite wishing that I wanted to, and I have to wonder how so many of the artists I look up to have been able to keep posting art 2-3 times a week on social media for years without fail.
By no means am I a particularly experienced artist, but I have dealt with the problem you're dealing with a few times now and I have a bit of advice. Even though it feels like artistic progress ought to be a linear path, you can always pick it back up months later if you feel like it again and continue your journey. In reality it's nowhere near linear, and you aren't "losing progress" when you don't do art for a couple of months (which is something that would always stress me out). If your goal is to document the process of learning something difficult, I'd even go so far as to say that losing desire is a massive part of that process. It's easy to romanticize the idea of being able to do something difficult, but sometimes the tedious process whittles that initial desire down to nothing. I'm not suggesting you need to keep trying, just that you should try again if you ever feel like it!
Anyways, I'm still 3 minutes into the video so I hope I didn't comment something you were just about to say lol.

Look, Dish, I won't lie and say there won't be some period of adjustment on the channel, but honestly, I think this type of diverse content that delves much more into the person and their misadventures, rather than just a friendly script with a beginning, middle, and end, will become more common over time. I haven't been able to start a channel yet, but I also thought about doing these interventions in various areas, as dopamine suggested, and that's exactly why I signed up here. It's okay. I've been drawing for as long as I can remember. Yet, as much as I love making art, I couldn't help but notice how I went from making almost 50 artworks in 2019 to only 6 in 2023.
It's just how your interest varies, how you change your way of expressing yourself (be it through drawing, making videos, reading, playing games, chatting with friends...).
This year, I have already completed 6 artworks, and am currently working on my 7th. It looks like I'm back in art. It feels nice, but slowing down never felt like giving up (or felt bad at all).
Take your time. Even if you were to never take the pen again, you would've still spent quality time and learned a lot through your art journey. Growing and doing what you love is the most important part of life.

One of the things I love most as a person is having deep, meaningful, introspective conversations. Exploring and staying true to our innate human curiosity is something I've really tried to hold onto these past couple of years, but even so I'm very prone to telling myself that "I can just do this thing tomorrow."
Maybe you already know this, but I think these kinds of "one-on-one" introspective moments are much more inspiring than they might seem! They kind of strip away all of our extra thoughts and perfectionistic expectations until, like you said, we only have the rest of our day ahead of us. In my own experience, knowing that I have today and could do /anything/ with it is inspirational in a much more comforting way than trying to motivate myself by looking at everyone else's achievements is.
These are vague feelings that I've tried to sum up in a comment lol, but I hope they make some sense. I'm glad to see you staying true to your interests, and excited to see what directions you take us in! As always, thank you for sharing with us :)

Because life is short and you should spend it doing things you love and enjoy, and Im like really thankfull that you are so open about this topic. Because I think that many people think that its almost a sin to quit your hobbies and start new ones, but really: It isn´t. Its the most normal thing in live.

I do commissions as my main income while I’m looking for a job and I’ll go on like 3 month breaks CONSTANTLY atleast 2 times a year so I FULLY understand this, I don’t enjoy looking at my own works, nor do I feel drive to draw, and that art block is honestly my worst enemy, the only thing that helps is if I get really into a new show but that’s only temporary, don’t worry about waiting for a long long time for that inspiration to strike again, if it doesn’t then you’ve already had the experience and if it does your skills won’t deteriorate very much, sometime you just need to let the tea brew and steep for awhile, to rush it out of the water would be to serve a mediocre cup, patience and integrity create something much stronger 💙💙💙
And that goes for changing passions!!!!

At one point I’ve had a bad case of art block that didn’t go away for 3-4 years. I tried to push myself through it and "fix it", but it didn’t work out. Trying out different things, and not pushing yourself to improve and be productive all the time is a great way to pick yourself up. If you return to an old interest or not, most people don’t know (I think). What matters is that you end up happy. Good luck on your journey!

I've been pursuing art and writing since I was 11 and I'm now 23. I was never "talented" at it, but I worked hard and over time I saw results. I've always been passionate about pursuing creativity and sacrificed my time in any way I could to work towards becoming an artist. My journey has had it's ups and downs, plenty of moments where I doubted myself and thought about quitting, moments of burnout after pulling all-nighters to enter comic contests and moments of exhaustion from juggling my busy life and full-time job and responsibilities. But could never put it down for longer than a month. The passion was there and it had to come out, just like one has to breathe. That was my relationship with art.
Until my best friend passed away a little over a year ago. We were both artists, working towards the same goals and building each other up. And we loved playing Genshin together. After she died, my creativity just shattered. I lost my spark and my will to create. And I don't know if I'll ever get it back like it was. But I know someday I'll be ready to pick up a pen again and tell a new kind of story. It's in my blood. And I believe it's in yours too. Those pencils and paints will always be there for you when your ready, so don't worry 💜

I used to draw a lot but chronic illness kind of screwed me over and I lost passion because of all the pain it caused me physically and how I couldn't keep up with the things I used to be able to make and it took me a while to get past that and accept the loss of passion but nowadays I've gotten into embroidery as a new creative outlet and hobby, there's nothing wrong with learning to live and let go instead of clinging onto something that you aren't passionate about, looking forward to the channel revival!!

im so blessed that my calling when it comes to art is story telling. inspiration isnt something i have to fight for. I have stories to tell and characters to share and the well is healthy. If i was just drawing to make good drawings id fuckin quit so fast. when you nail a great piece of art it feels amazing! for like 10 minutes. and when people see that art you worked so hard on, they appreciate it! for about 10 seconds. but when you make a comic book, it stays in peoples hearts for life. it has staying power.

I'm still watching the video and will expand my comment as I go, but the feeling you describe in the beginning is something I (as someone who's done art ever since I can remember) still go through. There are times where I love art, but I just don't have the joy to create anything. Where I don't have the drive or motivation to draw, where I lack the inspiration to put something on a canvas. So just know, you are not alone in that feeling!
I honestly think Reading and Art actually go hand in hand. I've gotten the most inspiration, the most drive to draw when I've read good books. Being transported into all sorts of different worlds and then documenting that with drawings and doodles is something I LOVE to do. BUT it doesn't have to be like that for you ! Like you said, enjoying each day as it happens, living in the moment, doing what brings your heart and soul joy IN THAT MOMENT, that's the beauty of it all, and whether that includes drawing or not does not matter.
Personally, I subscribed to this channel because I love seeing people share and explore their interests and the things that bring them joy, and that's exactly what you do on here. You share your interests and hyperfixations and joys with us in such a... relatable and honest way? And regardless of whether it's art, or something else, it's inspiring, and comforting.
I'm looking forward to whatever you decide to post in the future!!
Take it easy, enjoy life and do what makes you happy, whatever that ends up being ✨💖
(I'd love to give book recs but I mostly read fantasy and queer/lgbtq+ YA stories [like "In Deeper Waters" by F. T. Lukens] because they portray a reality I didn't get to live growing up, so I'm healing my inner child with them and idk if those would be up your alley at all lol)

PLEASE read Dawn by Octavia E. Butler! Truly one of the best books I have read by one of the most well-known and beloved sci-fi authors of the 80's, who earned her angel wings far too early. I loved it so much, I introduced it to my aunt--who then roped my grandma and grandpa into it as well!

Thank you for sharing this Dish and reminding people like me that it's okay to discover stuff in the middle of the things you started and jumping into different things. Ofcourse that has to have some boundaries in order to make it less chaotic but chaos in life is something we need to accept and navigate as we go and discover ourselves.
Anyways again thank you because i resonate so much with what you just shared and it reassured me that starting over is not a bad thing at all but instead it's a sign of growth and progress in life 🥰💐

I think you succeeded in your art learning project, and is something to be commended. I think dropping off from art and coming back to it some day or never is really normal experience, or at least it resonates with me.
I also began learning art later in life. I also spend years without grabbing my pen. watching your journey felt validating. It is okay to push yourself to learn a new skill. It is also okay to go do something else.
Maybe I should pick a book as well... it's been a while since i sat down to read,

The content on your channels is honestly so deep and relatable at times 😭 I think we all can relate to struggling with things we love or the feeling of “failure” by not keeping up with them as often. For me, I’d say it’s been about 2-3 weeks since I’ve drawn in my own time due to lack of motivation. After watching this video I wouldn’t say all guilt has floated away, but I don’t hate myself as much for not creating on my own time.
As for your content, just seeing all the different things you’re interested in and how you dedicate time to them is to me, the same amount of enjoyment compared to your art videos. Keep making content you enjoy and don’t feel the pressure to stick to one thing at a time! (I personally find sticking to one thing to be a struggle since like you said, people are always changing :]) Hope you have a good day and have fun making new content on this channel :D

I think it's true that many subscribed for the process of creating art, me among them, but I think your way for conveying that you intend to share what is close to you opens up being able to grow together, kind of. For me, there's so much going on on RUclips, so much that I often don't even notice when of if someone stops posting content. That it not to say I don't care. I appreciate the effort a lot. And that is a great reason for why I'm staying around. This video makes me think about cleaning my subscriptions on RUclips and concentrating on putting effort into things I genuinely feel like doing, not forcing myself because of an ideal I have in mind. Thank you for this. Looking forward to the coming bits! 😀

This was such an interesting watch and I'm glad I watched the whole thing. Personally, i've always been the artsy type and I would never say I was amazing but I was able to be proud of what I made. However as I got older I lost the energy to draw and paint. While it is always in the back of my mind I never seem to just get the momentum to start something and enjoy it like I used to so I totally understand how you may feel about it. I personally would never say it's a sad thing to lose that fire you once had since you always keep the amazing memories it caused. It so weird how many complex emotions can cause you to just randomly stop doing something and gain that same exact fire for something totally different. As someone who casually watches your videos I cant wait to see the progress of where this side channel will go.

I'm glad that this is what you decided to do with this channel! rather than choosing to force a interest, art, you chose to show that we all change, even in creative strides. And to me, that's much more real and raw than to keep going with art when it's not something you want at this time as a person. That, to me, is what creativity is all about, it comes in all types of light and emotion, so to embrace that is truly beautiful! You continue to be a big inspiration ms dish, even if not perfect, thank you for your honesty and beautiful creativity, I cannot wait to see more!

hey i really like the honesty in your video is sth that i think is relatable for most people. my advice is after this long break in your free time without the camera pressure allow art to inspire your life. Im studying to become a concept artist for the game industry and i must tell you when i started learning the fundamentals the passion for art started dying. It is a difficult process and it feels like an art block but is not If you fight against it. Personally I reminded myself what my kid and teenage self loved so much in drawing and where the inspiration was coming from before locking my self with rules as an adult . Learning the rules is important but more important to improve is having a passion. Read books, watch series animation games anything that gives you inspiration and do sth small without expectations once a week like drawing your favorite animal crossing characters as a doodle etc. The passion for drawing is difficult to come back without actually picking the pen, it s like a step to conquer a fear of self doubt. Maybe the expectation to show it to others put you pressure as well so for me drawing should be sth for you and yourself for now to recreate the sparkle. Im excited to see your book content i really try to get back to reading

I technically “quit art” when I was 21 to pursue pro wrestling, then I joined the Navy at 24 then I realized at 36 there’s no “quitting art” it’s a language we speak and sometimes it’s the language of our soul that drives us to pursue it again. You have to set boundaries with creativity because like any relationship if you don’t set healthy boundaries you will feel drained of joy.

Hey, I normally don't really write comments, so I'm a bit unsure on how to voice exactly what I mean, but I just wanted to tell you (or write, to be more exact) that you're not alone on this and a lot of people can relate to this experience including myself. One moment I am so absorbed in drawing that I can blend out everything else. It's the time I finally think that I found 'the thing' that exits me and I can officially say that drawing is my hobby.
But the next moment I know, I lose interest in it. Now I like writing, then it's playing my instrument again and so goes my experience on and on. But it's as you said, life goes on. I'm never the same person I was a moment ago because every moment I live is an experience that leaves an impression on me. And that's not inherently a bad thing. Stuff around us changes, we change and it's completely normal. That doesn't mean that we can never go back, just that in this moment, the 'now', our interests lie somewhere else.
Now, I know how that sounds. As I'm a complete stranger to most likely everyone that reads this comment, but I just wanted to share this little piece of information. Because in my opinion sometimes all we need to hear, is that we're not alone with this feeling, that it's normal, that we're normal and not a failure.
Anyway, I hope this comment finds everyone who reads this well :)

Ill be sticking around. Im not much of a reader but ive always got time to listen. (Well not always always but i always need things to listen too wile arting).
Honestly when you were speaking on the future towards the start it reminded me of Conceptual Art. The point of it was the Idea, not the end product whatever it mey be or what deeper meaning or comentary. Just this is the idea/plan/what we are doing. And that is art.
If you look into it you get some lretty wild/interesting concepts. Especially going into the Performing Conceptual Art but thats neither here or there.
If you ever plan returing to drawing us visual artists will graciously give you a warm welcome. And if not thats ok too E>

You don’t have to force yourself to create when you’re out of motivation and inspiration. Perhaps your creativity needs a new outlet for a while, like your reading! hello Miss Dish :) I would just like to start off with thanking you for all that you’ve done, and all that you are still doing. You have been one of the biggest inspirations for me in not only my journey through art, but my journey through life. I'm not sure how to explain it, but you and your silly little videos have left a big impact on my life, even if just in little ways.
Even though you won’t be doing drawing anymore, that’s not why I subscribed to you. I subscribed to you because you are such an amazing and genuine person, and through this channel I was able to see that side of you very clearly. Sure the art and drawings you made were part of the reason I’m here, but *you* are the reason I stayed. Your honesty and genuine heart are why I kept coming back and really looked forward to your next videos, on this and all of your other channels.
