Here is what Prost had to say in 1981 about driving the RE30 with huge turbo lag on twisty street circuits like Monaco and Long Beach: "When we do get some response, it's very brutal. The power doesn't come in progressively but brutally which makes the wheels spin. Driving the RE30 F1 Turbo on such circuits is a very delicate business.”

Beautiful video. Early 80's Renault Gordini turbo had a beautiful sound. Also the black-yellow-white livery of the cars was wonderful. I love it...
The noise of the gearbox...awesome!

Great video. You can see and hear how much emotions you feel when you drive an F1 car.
Arnoux is actually looking in his wing mirrors..... James Hunt would be most impressed!
Thats's right. Good one :-)
Yeah. I really doesn't know what happened with him after he left Ferrari in 1985 he was like not carrying for anything after that
@ 1:40 Excitement sound from apparently his rear wheel spinning inside the Monaco tunnel
Muchas gracias Pierre.
This channel is pure gold. Happy new year in advance!
From those interested, here above/below is what Arnoux is saying through his helmet mike:
@ 00:51 “Où il est l’autre ?” meaning “Where is the other guy ?” basically wondering where his teammate Prost is for some better video shooting
Tre Bien Magnifique
@ 7:40 Prost not yet doing in 1981 one of his trademarks moves: heel-toe downshifting all gears in one shot (sequential downshifting instead like all other drivers)
It was is trademark later he would do the same with the Ferrari automatic gear box.
Schumacher would slam it into the gear he needed maybe 2 steps with one HT, Senna would go through every gear on the downchanges.
@@gold333 True!
Can you give an example of this? (Onboard footage)

Front-wings shaking much more on Arnoux’s car than Prost’s one
@2:36 “Vas-y, passe !” meaning “Go ahead and pass !” before making sign to Prost to overtake him
I dont hear anything spoken

that shifter sounded like my old 1980 Merc. Zepher before she died.
