- Russell Howard is one of the U.K.'s most in-demand young comics. He joins Shad to discuss the difference between British and North American humour, his attitude toward bombing on stage, and why he doesn't buy the idea that cynicism is inherently funnier than positivity.

q is a magazine show that’s unpredictable in the best sense - proud to be “a wild mix of culture by way of Canada” as described by the New York Times. The Globe & Mail noted the show’s “raging popularity across a variety of platforms -- podcasts, television, websites, satellite radio, terrestrial radio, and occasional live remote broadcasts." - Развлечения
so smart and calm when he's not on stage
Dear Fellow North Americans: If you haven't seen Russell Howard's Good News, do. Even the heavily outdated episodes are incredibly entertaining.
Homini Lupus America fuck yeah
Homini Lupus probably the funniest tv show in the world
He does some brilliant comparisons between UK and US coverage of news stories, like ebola, or War on Terror, etc.
facts about ur mum I am fully British, and I like your style
definitely concur; he has a unique gift of "seeing' the ridiculous and drawing humour from it!
Interviewer was excellent!
he is such a good interviewer I think, doesn't interfere too much and shows genuine interest, really lovely guy.
I’m Canadian, living in Quebec, I wish I could see you in show Russell ❤️❤️❤️
@15:45 is when they talk about John Oliver
Thank you!
Really a mensch: he is a solid, brilliant, sensitive, earthy, modest and adorably masculine. His genuine struggle as a child with his disabilities, his touch of ADD and his eye problem are nowhere to be exploited: he is so easy to love, as he loves his quirky family, with all the sincereity and purity anyone could. His road trip with mom was even more impressive:the camera was always on him, on his anxiety, his fear, his embarassements, and he feelings about his mom...all done spontaneously in front of the camera...he is more impressive when you know who he is as a rela person, so very tare.
i like how to ways the conversation is it doesn't feel like an interview
"We haven't come here for joy" 😂😂
Random comment 3 years later: But I really liked the way Russell explained about how football brings him joy and how it's the rare moment where you're just there. Which is something I really relate with, especially in terms of coping with anxiety. I don't play like Russell but even just watching a match is very grounding. It's cool to know that someone else feels that way too!
Great interviewer, so genuine and sweet
Just saw Russell in Seattle. Funny funny stuff. The world is a better place because of people who do humor.
david eisenbud
Lucky you were to see him live!
"It feels like this room's got memories, stuffs gone down here." oh boy, thats an understatement. :/ but yeah I love Russell Howard, glad to see he is visit Canada :)
In Scotland what we say is "Hello Mr Magpie, how's your wife and children?" or if there's more than one there's the song...one for sorrow, two for joy etc. etc.
three for a girl four for a boy, five for silver six for gold, seven for a secret never to be told
Is nottingham the only place that doesn't do that at all?
Saffron Luxford probably hahahah
I saw eight magpies the other day - the rhyme couldn't help me, so what's my future??! ;D
Tori Lee eight's a wish, nine's a kiss, ten's the one you cannae miss :P
I've seen Shad on a couple of interviews on the net and he comes across as an excellent host.
what a fantastic interview!! love you, Russell!!!
Shad? thank you for this brilliant interaction!!!
I love the way the interviewer goes-SellERtape? 😂
He must be a great friend to have; always a laugh on hand. Most neighborhoods have one kid like him, but he would have been especially funny.

Russell looks so high. He got some of that Canadian kush 😂
He has a lazy eye
Sellotape is just a brand, but we Brits just call it Sellotape even though it could technically just be called sticky tape. Scotch tape is another brand and looks different to Sellotape even though it essentially does the same thing. Duct tape, masking tape etc. are obviously different types of tape and have different purposes.
In Germany, it's called Tesa(-Film), which is, yet again, the name of a brand :)
In New Zealand it is called Sellotape.
+Richard Vowles Yes, but aren't you guys compaired to Canada, India and Australia the most British of them all?
+69drummerdude I'd say Canada's the most like UK, though they've both got our crap weather, we don't have Hobbits.
Richard Vowles it’s all of those names and sticky tape in Australia hahahahaha
in Australia its called sticky tape
moakley All tape is sticky, stay woke
Does anyone know what mics are used in this?
Loveeeeeee
I am not sure if I am seeing Russell Howard or a younger Stephen Merchant. lol Russell look kind of weird here.
6:00 to 6:06 - *faints*
That little laugh a-ah is so adorable
He's clearly really tired. He is still fantastic though.
His mum didn't say I'm 57 and I don't care she said because I'm 57 and I don't give a shit. >:(
He's not allowed to swear.
Do you not understand how radio works mate? ;) xD
Sebastian Roberts, You start swearing and you will get sued.
The cough button didn't work
Anyone else distracted by the 3 hairs sticking out of the back of Russell's head

Is being 'bombed' the weird American version of being heckled?
Joe Gorman no pal, bombing is "dying" on stage.
When no one laughs at your joke

18:16 Oh dear Lord, the host might as well be from the moon... Getting a ball into the net at Anfield is as good as it gets, even for a non fottball (soccer) fas as me.
