Hi Rich... I did indeed learn from you today! I watched the live show earlier... oh, my name is Steve, by the way, from Wichita, Kansas (US). I am just a few days over 90 at a new job where I repair and test power inverters and converters. I had not done discreet component work in many years, so the challenge has been formidable. I am so glad I found your channel! You have helped me immensely in these past few months, and I will be sending support as I get on my feet financially. I just want to thank you for your broad and thorough treatment of the many basic subjects you cover and the live trouble isolation videos are GREAT! I will be changing my photo back to my normal (not dressed up) image now that I am happily re-employed later today. I just turned 69 on August 1st and am SO happy to be doing the work I am engaged in now which is going better all the time because of learning gained from watching you. You are my TOP recommendation on a list of real-time learning resources I provided to my manager in my last review. Thanks again, Rich!

An extremely useful pair of videos Richard - helped me to fix a thirty-odd year old function generator this week. Keep up the good work.

A gem of a video. I wish I had watched this 10 years ago before I had been down most of the rabbit holes you describe.
    Pure gold !

Both your videos have been very educational. I've been taking notes along the way. I've learned a huge amount. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. These videos really help with understanding diode junctions. I loved the bit with the OR gate and the hex inverter. Brilliant 👍

Very good instructive video's. I am curious about your opinion about component testers like the Peak Atlas or various chinese brands? Do you use them? Very good instructions about in-circuit en out of circuit testing. Tricked me a couple of times finding shorts. Essential tools for fault finding. Best regards, Henk

12:55 - Or, you could use two multimeters: one to turn it on; the other to measure resistance.
18:55 Some concepts are easier on paper; but, 7:06 some are easier on board.
    22:23 - Ha!

A lot of phone repair youtubers say to test for shorts by putting red lead to ground and probing caps using the black lead. But none of them explains why they use this polarity. Is this a similar thing to when testing opamps, to make use of the protection diode?
