I run a black/white version of this deck with children of korlis-like abilities. Phyrexian unlife and ad-nausium is a really really fun combo with death's shadow too! Lucked out and made the deck before it got popular so it only cost me like $24!
You actually don't need that EXACT hand, just a similar one. You can replace the second simian with a right of flame to get enough mana. And you can swap the lightning bolt out for rune of destruction to just let the wall be bigger for the fling.
There is a better way with a different hand were you can win on THE FIRST TURN OF THE GAME! You start first with only 7 cards in hand. 1st card play Swamp, 2nd card play Dark Ritual, 3rd card play second Dark Ritual off of 3 mana leaving 2 left but adding 3 to total 5. 4th card play Wall of Blood leaving 2 left and pay 17 or 19 life doesnt matter. 5th card play Rite of Consumption gaining all your life back now you are at 20 and opponent is at 1. 6th card Simian Spirit Guide to cast your 7th card Lightning Bolt for the Win. Stand up thank everyone and smile. No need to go second and allow for anything from your opponent. Boom! a true first turn win. Edit: Why don't you replace Fling with Thud? Would make it faster.
What about that wall that you can add +10/0 to your wall, and then fling the wall? Or that one mana black 13/13 monster, and rite of blood for -12, idk. The point is, there are many win cons in this deck
Joey, I'd recommend putting the black/red fast land and painland rather than having the dragon skull summit. These two lands are immediately usable in any turn this deck wants to win with.
Played a game recently using a Hydra deck where one of them was at 16/16 and my opponent took control of that hydra for the turn then used Thud (basically the same as fling) to cast my own 16/16 creature against me as damage and hit me with a 4/4 flying that I couldn't block on the same turn.
Since I wanted to keep it under 60$, I ordered 4 temple of malice’s instead of the blood crypt because they are 75 cents a piece rather then 15$ a piece
I have a question about Deaths Shadow that I'd love to hear an answer to. If you have a card that makes you unable to lose, like Platinum Angel, and you end up with -8 health, would that technically give Deaths Shadow +8/+8? That would make for an interesting deck, especially with Celestial Mantle, giving a further +3/+3. And if they are able to survive, and damage to a player was dealt you'd go from -8 health to -16, giving Deaths Shadow +16/+16. It would be a creature that could grow exponentially stronger if this would actually work. Since X in this instance is the life total, and it is in -X/-X, I see no reason for it not to work but would appreciate the view of those more familiar with this.
So, very, very late response, but if you haven’t already looked it up, death shadows highest stats are a 13/13 no matter your life total. In magic you can not get a - -x/-x, although it would be very fun if you could. It will always cap at -0/-0 no matter your life
Is there a way I can get these cards in bundles? Because I've been looking at buying these all individually as I don't have much of a collection and it's pricey.
Wouldn't it also work with a swamp, 2 dark rituals, a wall of blood, a rite of consumption, a simic spirit guide and a lightning bolt. Play swamp tap for first dark ritual get 3 floating pay one for another Dark ritual have 5 floating pay 3 for wall of blood pay 17 life use 2 floating mana to play rite of consumption then you exile spirit guide to gain the red and cast lightning bolt. And since that is 7 cards you could get that opening hand.
Sooo...you pass the first turn. Giving them a land (island). You use your entire hand only for the fling to get spell pierced? Or they play a swamp wait for you to dump your hand and just fatal push the wall?
I run a turn one black deck that leaves a lot more open for safety. It revolves around Dark Ritual, Buried Alive, Exhume, Mephitic Ooze, Triskelion, and Phyrexian Devourer. The only cards that need to be in your hand are 2 Dark Rituals, 1 Buried Alive, 1 Exhume, and 1 Swamp. At worst the combo played out by turn 3. LOVE IT!
You don't need the Lightning bolt in opening hand if they make THE most common turn one play and that is crack a fetch land at htat point you just pay 19 life and one shot them. And the Second simian spirit guide and a second Rite of flame could be interchangeable in the open hand. You could also run desperate ritual to increase the odds of getting the red mana you need.
I love this deck, I personally run a belcher deck when I play legacy, which the one that I built isn't stupid expensive with perfect lands but shocks will work just fine. Keep up the vids man! :D
I once built a first turn win deck using Sutured Ghoul + 2 Death's Shadows. You basically put them in your graveyard with Buried Alive and 2 Dark Rituals. Then you bring the ghoul to battle with Shallow Grave. It's 26/26 hasted and has trample.
Since you are using Legacy cards (at least I believe Dark Ritual is Legacy) why not use cards like Infernal Plunge, Desperate Ritual, Seething Song, Priest of Gix and Urabrask, Overeager Apprentice, Cabal Ritual, and Phyrexian Alter to generate way more mana?
Yes you can pay an ability as much as you want as long you can afford to pay the cost for the ability. And except if the text says "you can only use this ability once each turn"
i fixed it for t1 on the play, t1: swamp, dark rit, dark rit, wall of blood, 2 black floating, exile simian, for a red and play any buff spell, the higher the buff obviously the better, but only 1 red(or green actually) mana, then you pay life up to 20 power and rite of consumption and gain it all back and win t1 on 20-22 health
If it's a turn one kill, 20 lands is 19 more than you need. I think you should use Lotus Petals, Gytaxian probes, Street Wraiths and maybe Land Grant to get your land (it will need to be a Forest Swamp, but you already have enough Red mana in the Guides and the Petals/Rituals). I had a similar idea for a deck last month, the win con would be the fling/black fling, and used the Glyph of Destruction, bit I tried building it in Pauper and it really didn't work very well, probably this legacy version is better (even though it won't see competitive play) and more fun
This reminds me of a less consistent version of self mill, glory rise, azami-lab maniac win. It wins on turn one about 50-60% of the time. You should check it out. Its competitive in legacy. Also this deck must hate gut shot 😂
I've got a turn 1 win with a mono red deck where you don't pay life or techincally sacrifice a creature. And you deal 23 damage on turn one. Mono Red. :) Let me know if you'd be interested to know this deck.
not too shabby. I prefer my illusions of imortallity deck. it's basically the Trix deck on steroids. (perfect hand) 1 Dimir Doppelganger. 1 illusions of grandeur. 1 necropotence 3 dark ritual. 1 swamp. 1 island. obviously you want to go second to draw the 8th card. lay the swamp play the first dark ritual, play necropotence draw 10-12 cards most likely you grabbed (Defiant Bloodlord) and hopefully your last dark ritual and probably another island end your first turn. next turn grab your ten twelve cards from exile lay an island play dark ritual cast Dimir Doppelganger discard Defiant bloodlord and any extra cards end turn..next turn lay another island cast 2 dark rituals copy defiant Bloodlord play illusions of grandeur. game. if opponent would gain any more than 20 life attack with the 4/5 flying vampire. this deck is super consistent another key card is burried alive go grab bloodlord Defiant put it in graveyard. and yes I also have 4 donates as a back up as well as thing in the ice and phyrexian metamorph and teysa envoy of ghosts just in case. lol
I have a newer but clunky version if this deck. Not geared to do turn 1 though 4 rotting regisaur 4 Thud 3 fling 3 blood for bones 2 Scheming symetry 2 Ob Nixilis, the hate twisted 2 Lightning strike 2 samut, tyrant smasher 2 dreadhorde butcher 3 goblin motivator 3 ember hauler 2 Vampire of the dire moon 1 blightbeetle 3 stormfist crusader 4 torbran, thane of red fell 4 bloodfell caves 1 dwarven mine 7 mountian 8 swamp
I thought you had to be able to tap a creature to sacrifice it. If that is the case, you couldn't sacrifice the wall unless you gave it haste. If the rules have changed (I haven't played Magic in a while, so) then I would stand corrected.
I've played magic for about 20 years. I don't recall that ever being a rule. I guess it may have been in the very early years but I don't think it was. There used to be a rule about artifacts being "off" when they were tapped or something like that but I don't think it had to do with sacrificing.
This would be easily countered by some stuff especially a lot of white as soon as fling comes into field you could play hallow 1 cost white that prevents all damage from a card and then you gain life based on the damage dealt so not only does your card resolve they lose a creature from flings resolve and extra cost and you gain almost double life and or you could wait till they used a good portion of the cards that gave mana and just silenced them another 1 drop white that makes it so opponents can't cast spells that turn
Alternatively, you could have a hand that is Swamp, Simian Spirit Guide, Dark Ritual, Dark Ritual, Wall of Blood, Rite of Consumption, Lightning Bolt for the same game winning effect with one less card.
I think I found a way to win T1 on the play. Same start of Swamp, Dark Ritual, Wall of Blood, Rite of Flame, Fling, and Simian Spirit Guide. Just add Zuran Orb, sacrifice the swamp for 2 life, pay 21 into the wall, and fling for lethal, hopefully before your opponent has a chance to respond. Orb is way worse than Lightning Bolt if the game goes long (which it usually will), but I thought I'd throw the idea out there.
If we're building legacy decks this seems really bad. Play storm or Belcher if you wanna win on turn one more consistently and just have a way better deck. It's also got a decent price tag, so it's not like this is good for kitchen table or anything, not that non-interactive decks are even fun for kitchen table.
I'd run street wraith, and manamorphose for draw. Also, I feel like the deck is weaker in legacy and vintage. Maybe take out the 7/1 kitty cat, and dark rituals for wraith and manamorphose? Wonder what you could put in for replacing Glyph of Destruction. I always tell my friends to run Fling in their Death Shadows decks, its such an underrated card.
I actually have a version of this deck, one simian and two rite of flames actually nets you 3 black and 5 red (8) total if you are interested in my variation let me know.
Funny i use wall of blood/fling combo for a long time now in one of my fundecks. Its fast but pretty dangerous (like channel) Nice deck, pretty strong, but im not sure its good enough for legacy (which would be the format with dark ritual i guess.) Your deck is even more consistent than i thought, but im still not sure about running ball lightning and firecat in there. maybe duress and manamorphose is an better option... shrinks your deck, might fix the need for one swamp problem and duress might remove the countermeasures of your enemy. But Death shadow and the wall instant sounds like a good choise.
Bad boy I got a deck in the works that has turn 1 key card denial. Not budget unfortunately, but turn 1 Thoughtsieze into surgical extraction to remove all copies of someone's key opening card(s), followed by burn and young pyromancer token gen, or burn counter burn with snapcaster to flashback counters as needed and deaths shadow to sub out for yp. Kind of like grixis deaths shadow, but ds isn't a win con. The salt generated from turn 1 card denial is lol
Sensei buh I wouldn't really say delver because there are none in it, but Definitly grixis. I originally wanted to throw in deaths shadow, but I don't want it to be a deaths shadow deck. Its still in the works though.
Lol, I decided to try this out..... I'm not allowed to play it against my friends anymore. 🤣
Graham Drake English?
Exactly what I need😈
Not sure you need the expensive blood crypts if they aren't vital to pulling off the endgame. Makes the deck way more budget friendly.
🤓
ME: I'm gonna pay 17 life and...
MY OPPONENT: Lightning Bolt.
ME:
Sea Wolf hope you didn't tap your land...
I run a black/white version of this deck with children of korlis-like abilities. Phyrexian unlife and ad-nausium is a really really fun combo with death's shadow too! Lucked out and made the deck before it got popular so it only cost me like $24!
is this playable in standard??
Not at all, Standard is only the most recent sets released
what's the deck list?
You actually don't need that EXACT hand, just a similar one.
You can replace the second simian with a right of flame to get enough mana. And you can swap the lightning bolt out for rune of destruction to just let the wall be bigger for the fling.
1killer911 cant do the destruction becuase the wall only gets the plus 10 while blocking
The Glyph of Destruction seems hard to use. It only gives the wall +10 when BLOCKING.
Declare Block with Wall of Blood, Pay life to buff it up then fling.
Yeah, I though that was possible but it seemed complex. Eh, just needs 1 card in hand, 1 wall in play and 1 opposing attack.
So you have to go first play a wall and they have to send a raging goblin at it so you can activate your combo.
This deck he made costs upwards of $140 as of this writing. Not exactly a budget deck.
It was but now it is famous. Modify it to your liking to save some money, everyone else is
Recommendation for the side board.
Rain of gore 3x
Rakdos Charm 3x
Anger of the gods 2x
Grafdigers Cage 2x
Eidolon of the Great Revel 3x
Torpor Orb 2x
Mmmm anger of the gods
God damn it. I love it. I love it even more knowing that its a long shot to get that turn 1.
11.7% of the time, it wins everytime.
With M19 out theres "Thud" hich makes this comb work with only one Spirit Guide in Hand if you switch Fling with Thud
Thud is sorcery if someone tries to remove your creature you cant respond. Fling is better
You know what you do after the game ? You stand up and try to shake his Hand ^^
I just added to cart every card in this deck!!! I want it!!! Great video!!!!
😎
The look on his face just before he punches yours in.
Wow, the comment section really didn't let the "add mountain" thing fly :D
Built your Glistener Elf AIDS infect deck and loved it. Keep up the good mtg cancer work.
+DPC hell yeah!
Noooooo, why did you change your name!
Bad boy MTG was the best!
"I pay 17 life"
... "in response I lightning bolt targeting you" .
Alternatively you could pump the wall to 10/13 cast glyph of destruction instead of lightning bolt then fling.
You have better odds of Mark Rosewater walking into your store and hiring you than getting a perfect 8 card combo on turn 1.
I have a question about Deaths Shadow that I'd love to hear an answer to. If you have a card that makes you unable to lose, like Platinum Angel, and you end up with -8 health, would that technically give Deaths Shadow +8/+8? And since that is 7 cards you could get that opening hand.
Why NOT Lotus petal, Chrome mox or mox diamond. And sidebord 4 pact of negation and 4 chancellorof the annex
Sooo...you pass the first turn. Giving them a land (island). You use your entire hand only for the fling to get spell pierced? Or they play a swamp wait for you to dump your hand and just fatal push the wall?

+LordTalon99 nice!

Can you pump the wall the turn it comes in even if it doesn't have haste??
This deck honestly feels like an Exodia deck from Yu-Gi-Oh
I feel like this could be converted into pauper, any ideas?
Since you are using Legacy cards (at least I believe Dark Ritual is Legacy) why not use cards like Infernal Plunge, Desperate Ritual, Seething Song, Priest of Gix and Urabrask, Overeager Apprentice, Cabal Ritual, and Phyrexian Alter to generate way more mana?
correct me if I'm wrong but you cant use blood walls ability first turn due to summoning sickness.....
You can since use it doesn't involve tapping it via a tap symbol on the creature.
Gitaxian Probe instead of street wraith? Since I think someone said this couldn't be modern legal anymore
Would thud work and you wouldn't have to have the 2 extra just one?
As a mtg noob, can you use the pay 1life 17 times? Wouldn't it be pay X life and add x/x?
Yes you can pay an ability as much as you want as long you can afford to pay the cost for the ability. And except if the text says "you can only use this ability once each turn"
If there's no TAP icon, you can use an ability as often as you are able to meet the costs (mana or in this case: life).
Wouldn't the glyph be more effective than the bolt?
What if they start with a lightning bolt though? Do the get to take the bow?
i fixed it for t1 on the play, t1: swamp, dark rit, dark rit, wall of blood, 2 black floating, exile simian, for a red and play any buff spell, the higher the buff obviously the better, but only 1 red(or green actually) mana, then you pay life up to 20 power and rite of consumption and gain it all back and win t1 on 20-22 health
Did gitaxian probe get banned in legacy? Would be good for making the combo happen at no additional mana cost
Ok but is they also have a lightning bolt then we could lose right then and there
If it's a turn one kill, 20 lands is 19 more than you need. I think you should use Lotus Petals, Gytaxian probes, Street Wraiths and maybe Land Grant to get your land (it will need to be a Forest Swamp, but you already have enough Red mana in the Guides and the Petals/Rituals). +Lucas Machado Produções Valid point
my red and black deck is almost the same except instead of the red mana adding cards, I simply play black lotus...LOL
could you do budget Mono Red or Red/Green Dragon deck profile? Or Red/Black as too maybe?
How come the sound on almost are your videos don't work? I will say this deck is really awesome so far! I'd love to see a full decklist for later. :D
This reminds me of a less consistent version of self mill, glory rise, azami-lab maniac win. It wins on turn one about 50-60% of the time. You should check it out. Its competitive in legacy. Also this deck must hate gut shot 😂
+Marx I'll give it a look
Yep. Oops all Spells. It's the premier deck for people looking to win T1 for cheap in Legacy.
How can you play the second card when you only had one swamp? The second card was a red card that costed 2 but yet you only had one mana on the field.
The second card was a Simian Spirit Guide. Remove from game to add one mana to your mana pool.
Sideboard some combination of: pact of the titan, pact of negation, tormodd crypt, ad nauseum, mana morphose, street wraith, gitaxian probe
How much does this deck cost? I'm super interested in a budget turn 1 win.
good freaking luck getting that exact hand ever. Once in a lifetime hand right there
Dark ritual and modern.. Right
I've got a turn 1 win with a mono red deck where you don't pay life or techincally sacrifice a creature. And you deal 23 damage on turn one. Mono Red. :) Let me know if you'd be interested to know this deck.
For sure, email me the deck list. MosbergSwerve@gmail.com
Greetings from Brazil, bro. Love your videos!
Isn't Thud better than Fling? Or can't you play it in this format?
Are the deck allowed in modern?
Please answer!!!!
Dark Ritual is banned in Modern
Why Dragonskull Summit instead of Blackcleave Cliffs?
Budget my dude. Blackcleave Cliffs all day non budget
Budget Legacy is a hell of an undertaking. Shocklands alone will set you back pretty deep. Oh well, good luck.
I like to use Fire Covenant and Mogg Maniac for quick and easy win
not too shabby. I prefer my illusions of imortallity deck. it's basically the Trix deck on steroids. (perfect hand) 1 Dimir Doppelganger. 1 illusions of grandeur. 1 necropotence 3 dark ritual. 1 swamp. 1 island. obviously you want to go second to draw the 8th card. lay the swamp play the first dark ritual, play necropotence draw 10-12 cards most likely you grabbed (Defiant Bloodlord) and hopefully your last dark ritual and probably another island end your first turn. next turn grab your ten twelve cards from exile lay an island play dark ritual cast Dimir Doppelganger discard Defiant bloodlord and any extra cards end turn..next turn lay another island cast 2 dark rituals copy defiant Bloodlord play illusions of grandeur. game. if opponent would gain any more than 20 life attack with the 4/5 flying vampire. this deck is super consistent another key card is burried alive go grab bloodlord Defiant put it in graveyard. and yes I also have 4 donates as a back up as well as thing in the ice and phyrexian metamorph and teysa envoy of ghosts just in case. lol
Use thud instead of fling would make it one less simian spirit guide to do same thing wouldn't it
Mana tithe
This is mostly Pauper legal. I think I might try this out in mtgo. I'm not a big fan of combo though.
Is this modern?
I have a newer but clunky version if this deck. Not geared to do turn 1 though
4 rotting regisaur
4 Thud
3 fling
3 blood for bones
2 Scheming symetry
2 Ob Nixilis, the hate twisted
2 Lightning strike
2 samut, tyrant smasher
2 dreadhorde butcher
3 goblin motivator
3 ember hauler
2 Vampire of the dire moon
1 blightbeetle
3 stormfist crusader
4 torbran, thane of red fell
4 bloodfell caves
1 dwarven mine
7 mountian
8 swamp
Could be done with 1 swamp, 1 simian spirit guide, 2 rite of flame, 1 dark ritual, the wall and rite of consumption as well
You only need 3 for the wall and 1 for the wall pump spell and 2 for fling you dont need the bolt
I see many ways that we could improve that deck and your turn one win is not the only way
Could see the cards too well on focus, your hand kept moving around
Swamp--> Dark Ritual ×2--> Wall of Blood (pay 17 life)--> Rite Of Consumption--> Simian Spirit Guide (sac 1 red)--> Lightning bolt.
7 card turn 1 alternative ;)
This would be easily countered by some stuff especially a lot of white as soon as fling comes into field you could play hallow 1 cost white that prevents all damage from a card and then you gain life based on the damage dealt so not only does your card resolve they lose a creature from flings resolve and extra cost and you gain almost double life and or you could wait till they used a good portion of the cards that gave mana and just silenced them another 1 drop white that makes it so opponents can't cast spells that turn
odd I'm new and every dece I made will stop that. whight, blak or blue decs will stop that.
But a nice non cokie cuter deac.
Y no badlands ?
Alternatively, you could have a hand that is Swamp, Simian Spirit Guide, Dark Ritual, Dark Ritual, Wall of Blood, Rite of Consumption, Lightning Bolt for the same game winning effect with one less card.
What format are you play as Dark Ritual is not Modern Legal?
Tim Fries legacy
Kitchen table. Anywhere else and this deck gets crushed by anything close to competitive.
Is Dark Ritual legal to use?
YO can we please get a full deck list!
How do you make this modern legal?
Holy cow amazing but how to against force?
You could also use thud instead of fling because it's only 1 mountain.
Couldn't one of the simeon's in the opening hand be another Rite of flame?
I think I found a way to win T1 on the play. Same start of Swamp, Dark Ritual, Wall of Blood, Rite of Flame, Fling, and Simian Spirit Guide. Just add Zuran Orb, sacrifice the swamp for 2 life, pay 21 into the wall, and fling for lethal, hopefully before your opponent has a chance to respond. Orb is way worse than Lightning Bolt if the game goes long (which it usually will), but I thought I'd throw the idea out there.
Funny deck! Just love it!
I'll be making this deck and I'll give you all the credit
If we're building legacy decks this seems really bad. Play storm or Belcher if you wanna win on turn one more consistently and just have a way better deck. It's also got a decent price tag, so it's not like this is good for kitchen table or anything, not that non-interactive decks are even fun for kitchen table.
Oops all Spells manages to be pretty cheap and also just as explosive.
Perhaps a Desperate Ritual, so you can hit the mana on Turn 1?
Awesome deck tech ! Times 4 baby!
I actually have a version of this deck, one simian and two rite of flames actually nets you 3 black and 5 red (8) total if you are interested in my variation let me know.
"Add a mountain to your mana pool"??
you know what he means smartass
What format would this deck be decent/legal in
Decent? None. Kitchen table players can do better than this. Legal? Vintage and Legacy.
Yeah. Figured that out while rolling through the comments.
Haha, I love this, I don't know what kinda format I would play this in, but in casual it's hilarious.
Thud is a 1 drop fling and could be good for this deck.
Grand Deck ..now u can replace fling that has the cmc of 2 with thud that only cast for one Red
Fling is better than thud. Thud cant respond to removal.
Funny i use wall of blood/fling combo for a long time now in one of my fundecks. Its fast but pretty dangerous (like channel)
Nice deck, pretty strong, but im not sure its good enough for legacy (which would be the format with dark ritual i guess.) Your deck is even more consistent than i thought, but im still not sure about running ball lightning and firecat in there. maybe duress and manamorphose is an better option... shrinks your deck, might fix the need for one swamp problem and duress might remove the countermeasures of your enemy. But Death shadow and the wall instant sounds like a good choise.
+Tobias Pause it's more for fun
Is dark ritual even modern legal
Is this viable in modern if you swap dark ritual for something?
Nobodies answered you in over 2 years. I want to know the same thing. All I've found was despair.
@@soulbreaker2882 lol no one shall ever know. Im not important enough for a good reply?
could always just make it a turn two win when you have to block for more safety, and if they try to remove the wall, the lighting strike fling combo
+Andrew J Salty decks are the way to go! 🤣😂
MTG Evolution its so much fun lol
Andrew J So just the typical Grixis ds/delver deck with a good sideboard card in the Main?
Sensei buh I wouldn't really say delver because there are none in it, but Definitly grixis. I originally wanted to throw in deaths shadow, but I don't want it to be a deaths shadow deck. Its still in the works though.
Sensei buh I love surgical extraction, but u/r burn control was my first deck so I wanted to turn it grixis and see how it does
Popular buddy. Very. Love your awesomeness!
Dark ritual is a band card in modern so pretty much kills the possibility of a turn 1 kill anyway
Raymond, you have to watch the video or you just sound dumb. I never mentioned this deck is Modern....
