Did this yesterday and i underestimated it, what with not having the adequate tools. If you DIY make sure you've got the correct socket (18mm socket with a hex upper) and a long H6 1/2 inch drive allen key to remove the dampers recessed top hat retaining bolt - the strut will otherwise spin. Also an impact gun would be GREAT for compressing the (what seems like an excessively long) rear spring
They can be a challenge, well done for the repair Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Great video
I am replacing spring on rear. As one year ago I changed hub/ bearing I am going to remove it. Them keep strut and knuckle together. It will be light to handle and I won’t have to remove pinch bolt
Good luck! Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thank you for sharing, great video, much appreciated 🤗
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

Thanks a lot for this video!!! :-)
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks for the vid.
It's safer to unplug the ABS sensor before moving suspension components.
Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Great video. Doing pads discs and hub/ bearing next week.
Your job looks a bit more complicated so I will think long and hard before deciding if it’s me or the garage.
Have fun! Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Great vids ! 👍🏻
Thanks for the great comments 👍🏻👍🏻
You're very welcome :)
Did my 12 yr old mondeo last week. Took an hour each to remove just the pinch bolts without snapping them. Both had to be replaced.
+iluvgsds well done those bolts were so tight.👍🏻
Springs look a bit passed it .. would of been a good idea to change those too ... save the hassle again later.
+Martyn Judd-cooper or I could just replace the whole car, where do you stop lol 😂
aaanton11
Tell me about it lol ... got an ST220 .. love the car but always something to do or sort £££ 😅
I have st tdci clutch and dual mass flywheel to do £1400 quid for the job and then there always something else but it’s worth it great cars mondeos
Well done aanton first video on this job.the pinch may be a new replacement ,how long in real time, thank god for air tools thanks
+bryan royle it took me 3 hrs, to do both, as I had not changed Mondeo Mk 3 Springs before, I think now if I did it again 1 hr per side.
aaanton11 ok thanks
Thanks for the video. Awful job if you do not know what to do and if you do not have good tools. In my case no other option than take the car to a carage repair shop that will cost a lot of money. I saw another video by someone and in it the Mondeo has totally different position, so that the rear shocks are separate from the coil springs making replacement a whole lot easier, and cheaper I guess.
Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
This is a great video. Local Ford dealer has managed to round pinch bolt off, and now can’t do anything. Any ideas anyone? Looks like a new hub. There doesn’t seem to any in supply chain, can anyone point me in the right direction please? 🤷♂️
If the bolt is rounded off my next move would be to remove the leg complete with the hub attached possibly then heat with oxyacetylene or grind the head of the bolt drill the bolt out and easy out the rest of the thread re-tap and fit a new bolt it’s all possible I’m surprised the main dealers haven’t attempted this, although they don’t like to repair all components it’s all about fitting new parts and charging you a fortune, hope this helps good luck Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
top video mate 👍. good job
+james hibbert thanks hope it helps👍🏻
Great video! Is there an less complicated way to do this if you only need to replace the spring?
No its the same job just not replacing the leg, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi Aaanton 11, i hear some noise at the back like metal is crouching specifically when I passed on bumps. What can it be please
BOTH REAR springs was change 4 years ago. The noise comes only from one side and only when i pass on bumps
ruclips.net/video/5dyhzUG3eW0/видео.html could be this, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
i had no chance getting mine off so took it to my mech. and now he cant even get the pinch bolts off without breaking something so no I'm looking to buy another hub just in case, said he heated it all up but still wont undo, problem is now over time the shocks leaked oil all over it, mixed in with the road crap its a no go :( I have some spare bolts from the cossie days so will take them Just in case one fits if it snaps or something else. so I have 9 days left to order parts before the MOT deadline ends.
+rs2klee sounds like you’ve had a nightmare, hope you sort it, at least there are plenty of spares on line if you need them👍🏻👍🏻
yeah mate, your vid even tho looked easy you still had to heat the lil buggers up. we did the same but now we just gota hang off it until something breaks then fit replacement parts. id never have don't mine like you did that one.
Remove the while lot next time, makes life a lot easier, and you should of also changed the Springs and top mounts at the same time, parts for these car are cheap.
if it aint broke don't fix it that's my motto Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hello, Please really which one is good to change between both of them? My Mondeo is very down. Springs or shock absorber?
+Feed Brain if it's low the springs might have broken, wont be shocks👍🏻
Thx
Where did you them spring compressors from???? Mine are crap lol
These aren’t much better 😂😂 machine mart I think 🤔 thanks for the great comments 👍🏻👍🏻
is it ok that the dust cover is a bit broken?
+Marko J. Depends how fussy you are, wont matter in the short term👍🏻
is this a v6 ? cause autodoc keep telling that the coil for the model where the coil mounted alone is the same as the coil to mount in the shockabsorber.... and i really wonder if they should have the same dimensions...
No this is a 2 litre petrol ⛽️👍🏻👍🏻
mine i9s also anenglish build mondeo, i wonder if thats why there are two types of the reaer absorber and coil
this is the other type ruclips.net/video/y4X0TSjwMLs/видео.html and autoc keep telling me the two types has same dimensions, and i dont believe them
Lol bit late now, but just looked into this because I have never seen a MK3 Mondeo with the focus type control blade rear suspension setup as shown on autodoc. Only ever seen the strut type.
Appears to be estate variants that got the better / newer control blade suspension on the rear with spring in a lower arm and separate shock...All hatchbacks that I’m aware of use the shock and spring combined into a strut.
The estate has completely different setup on the rear. Even the brakes are different. Different subframes too. Hence the auto doc guide doesnt apply to hatch/saloon.
Did the height of the car modified with the new shock?
+Sergiu 09 no stayed the same👍🏻
I dont know why on my mondeo the back of the car is too high
Sergiu 09 maybe wrong springs for model, theres different springs that take different weights for the various models, diesel,petrol,V6,St etc.
I would have been even better, if i could see what you was doing, and hear you when you was speaking. But part from that, a ok vid
Thanks for the great comments 👍🏻👍🏻
Who the hell fits exposed bolts on the rear strut mounts
