  • EPISODE #77: Ted asks about what it means that we continue in our sins in the face of the law. Rod talks about where the verification of the Christian faith comes from and where to look, and what power the law has to improve sinners, and what value improvement has for Christians.

I sin. I hate it. I immediately look unto Jesus and His finished work for me and that sin. I thank God. Wash rinse repeat.

Brothers no one in media today brings the clarity of gospel (sure) hope the way your Father/Son conversations do. Keep blaring the message. God’s peace to you.

This series is amazing. It hits everything I’m struggling with on the head as if someone read my mind and made it into a video. Thanks 😄

It was the sinful man, who wouldn't even enter the temple, but who trusted in God's mercy, whom Jesus said went home justified. That's the good news.

I really enjoyed this talks with Dad!👍🕺 It's great that you and your dad can visit about the struggles. Good points by both of you about our struggles with sin! 👍👍If you don't mind my afterthoughts?.. I believe Paul when talking about himself being the chief of sinners, I believe he was speaking of his past, when he was persecuting the Christians.. although I do agree that he was sharing his struggles with sin in Romans 7. The reason I say about Paul's past,, is nowhere in any of Paul's letters does he ever address true believers in Christ ,as sinners but rather saints. Paul encourages us to see who we are in Christ, new creations, adopted children of God, sealef until the day redemption. Dead to sin and dead to the law and alive in Christ. For the law was a ministry of death..And in this struggle ,renewing our mind is the key.. I apologize for for rambling a bit, it's early in the morning and I haven't had coffee yet LOL,,, Again, I do agree with you ,that struggling with sin is apart of the normal Christian Life 👍

I'm curious what your thoughts are about addiction and how it plays into our penchant for sinning in the same ways day after day. Is getting treatment an effort at self-improvement, or is it the transforming work of Jesus Christ?

Are you looking to self improvement as a means toward self justification? Or are you treating the avoidance of therapy as a "work" you must do to be justified? Either way, you're missing the mark. If one seeks therapy in the freedom given by Christ's saving work, it's all good.

@Heather Ploen If you're talking about earthly substance addiction, Dad has always had the utmost respect for how AA (among others) helps people. He describes our Christian condition as unceasing addicts of sin (again, referencing St. Paul in Romans 7), and has full respect for the very real struggle many have with other earthly addictions. Not having discussed it specifically with him yet, I think the case can be made that seeking treatment for addiction in our lives, when needed, can actually be some very basic steps leading to trusting Jesus Christ and His perfect work to rescue us-maybe even to the point of considering that it is an earthly path of rescue in which we discover He is carrying addicts to Himself for peace and consolation and joy, both here and with Him forever.
