The remgrit is tungsten carbide and you may or may not believe this, but you can cut off a padlock in the case of a lost key. My friend had to do that when someone slammed the padlock on his campervan and he didn't have the key. They walked back to the cabin, got his MP600, walked back and within 10 or so mins cut off the padlock with the remgrit :)

Thanks for the review and excellent work as always. I like the concept of this one as I have found having blades in multitools to be more or less useless for me personally, as I always have a solid knife or two on my person, EDC, 72hr or backpacking bags so the added weight and cost have always deterred me from purchasing them. I have a Leatherman micro and an CRKT Multi-Tool Get-A-Way Driver, love them both and used them many times. However the pliers on the micro are of course a bit small and weak for anything substantial so this Gerber just might be the answer.

Hi Gideon, I love your knife reviews - I have watched many and value your opinions. Good review on this Gerber MP600. I usually use my Leatherman because I feel it is better quality, but I moved from USA to Singapore about 3 years ago, and they have EXTREMELY STRICT knife laws (and most laws in general) along with astonishingly harsh punishments for breaking said laws, so I cannot carry anything outside my house with a blade 😕. Therefore, I asked my wife for the Gerber MP600 BLADELESS version for my upcoming birthday. That's why I'm doing some research on this tool that has already been out for so many years! Thanks for all your content, Steve Bates

I would like to add (not finished watching yet, that if you dull out the wire cutter, no need to replace the whole thing yet... Just turn it around and screw back on. it has 3 sides capable of cutting :) I have the original version of this that is grey colour, had the knife function and has no replaceable wire cutter. Hands down best multitool I have EVER owned. I would pit this against a leatherman any day in terms of plier durability. A late friend of mine was in the military and he would just trash leathermans with his grip. Literally they would be useless after he got done with them. He had his MP600 for years and convinced me to buy one long ago. Never looked back. Now I have a new backpack for going to and from work and is going to act as an extended EDC and plan on buying this exact one you have, black, bladeless, rotatable/replaceable wire cutters. I will take it apart and renascence wax it to give the black coating some protection and I will be happy as a pig in ____. Seriously people... buy this multitool. Long as you don't buy all the ones from the vendor I will be buying from in a week or two :P
+gideonstactical do you have any new insights and views/opinions on this tool now more time has passed?

  • @harristee21

I've been using the bladed version of those for many many years. Got it way back in the military and it served me well. Being that I did a lot of welding and work with torches I made the pliers too brittle and they snapped on me. I contacted Gerber and they had the most amazing customer service. I mailed my tool back to them and they promptly sent me back a new pair. Or at least what looks to be a new pair. But definitely my favorite multitool. I like that they have this option. Awesome review as usual, thanks.

+Tee Harris Yeah I like their stuff. I know they got a bad rep with that Gerber Ultimate Knife, but that thing was defective when it first came out but they made it right to those that sent the knife back. And I agree that their customer service is spot on and they honor that warranty. I know a guy that had an issue with his Buck Hoodlum when it broke and it him FOREVER to get ahold of someone there. A forever warranty is no bloody good if you cannot reach customer service lol!

Glad I bought this exact model. At first I wanted the more expensive military model with an M4/AR front sight post adjuster, but I don't need that that much. This is sufficient. Good review. Definitely don't need anything as expensive or extensive as a Leatherman MUT.

I may add that this bladeless multitool is great for the danish multitool market as "weapon" legislation in Denmark super strict and even includes pocket and folding knives "IF THEY LOCK THE BLADE".
This way I can actually carry my multitool in public... :) I had a Gerber diesel (similar model) and it was just magnificent. Gerber makes great multitools...

The part at the back of the pliers you referred to as for pulling wire, is a crimper for closing crimp on type connectors to wires. Also, the blades in the pliers have 3 sides, so when one side gets damaged you can unscrew them and just rotate to a new undamaged side.

Leatherman made the knifeless Fuse. They discontinued it. Very hard to find. Been looking for one for a long time. I usually EDC 2 knives so I would prefer a knifeless multitool. I hope Leatherman brings it back. I am amazed they let you in the plane with it. The tile rim grit cutter blade can do some damage. Think about it, in the 911 plane incidents, the perpetrators used plastic knives. I am sure this blade is a lot stronger than the plastic knife. I want to get the Leatherman knifeless Fuse. It think it is a better tool. Great vid. Thanks for sharing.

+mikedifeo who told you they used plastic knives? Check it out, did you know that the tsa has a failure rate of 95% when it comes to preventing illegal weapons from getting on board. Given that failure rate, is it not more likely that the terrorists used weapons that should not have been on that plane but the government does not want the public to know that they couldn't and can't do anything to stop it? That said I agree it looks like a nice tool.

    • @Pinki2019
      @Pinki2019 8 лет назад

It was the government's self-serving speculation that the hijackers used plastic knives and/or box cutters. No one really knows what weapons they had. I agree with you that they may very well have gotten better weapons through security.

    • @blarneystone38

One big issue you might run into with the Knifeless Rebar is that it comes with a saw blade, which could potentially get you in trouble with the TSA or whoever even though there are no knives. It is not removable like the saw on the Gerber. I was excited for the Knifeless Rebar but it ultimately let me down for that reason, it seems silly to include a saw on a tool that is supposedly for getting into sensitive environments. The Knifeless Fuse was a very good tool but it isn't easy to find.

Great video, great review. I've been looking for a bladeless multitool to carry whenever. One handed opening sounds convenient for unexpected use as well. It looks slimmer than the Leatherman OHT also. I noticed that the replacable cutters are triangular. Does that mean they have edges on all three sides and you can just turn them over, if one side goes dull/damaged? That seems great if it is so. This thing just seems to have really many features that I prefer, I will likely pick one up.

    • @Pinki2019

Yes,the cutters have 3 sides you can wear out before replacing them. I'm in the market for a knifeless multitool as well. Just a head's up - Leatherman recently came out with a knifeless version of the Rebar, so that's another to consider. I'm torn between the two.

+bladeXdaywalker I'd personally call it a "file," if asked, but I've flown in and out of Europe for years with various tools on my person and in my carry-on, with no problems. With the notable exception of the UK, knife laws in most European countries really aren't as draconian and anti-knife as even their citizens presume-here in the Netherlands, for instance, the culture may be instinctively bristly about pocket knives, but the actual law has no problem with them (aside from some restrictions in certain parts of Amsterdam and The Hague). I'm not familiar with German law, but given how many German and Austrian bushcrafters I've seen here on RUclips, clearly there are times and places where it's perfectly okay there to carry an ESEE 6 on your belt.

+adhair You can call it a file, but if the officer decides for himself that isn't a file than you have to remove it, which how we saw it's not such a big problem. In Germany you're allowed to carry a fixed blade knife with a maximum blade length of 12 cm - not cutting edge, but from handle to the tip. If you want to carry a folded knife, which has a locking mechanism than only allowed if they're two-hand-opened or vice versa. There are some exceptions, but everything depends from the officer how he'll decide. If you have bad luck he'll confiscate the knife and than you can try to solve that in court.

That's true, some people might not want the fight and just surrender it. Hopefully the policeman would be satisfied with just removing the offending tool, but it's so non-threatening (yeah, it's black, but it's a multi-tool) that I'd like to think it wouldn't be a problem if searched. (Depending on what you're doing, of course. If he's searching you because you were involved in a crime, good luck.)

When the shit hits the fan, I don't think anyone will care if your multi-tool will have a blade in it or not, I will not carry a bladeless multi-tool because having a blade is a big part of my multi-tool. If you're out and about in another country and it's bug out time, what are you going to use?? If you're way out in the middle of nowhere in a foreign country and you have a mt that doesn't have a knife, its like having a gun with no bullets!!!
