A little late to the party but excellent video sir! I recently acquired a 307 Winchester in mint, unfired condition, took it to the range and love it! It is now my number 1 rifle for deer and bear.
Just found this video, I had forgotten about the 307! Had to look into it brass is available most places I looked, now I may have to find a rifle! Great video!
Think you're right. I got the 30/30 Winchester model 94 lever action and feel like the old west looking for food and when the action happens in the woods here usually need something quick to shoulder and shoot and it fills the freezer. I don't use a scope in the woods.. some nice firearms there.....cheers
Great video, always quality content! Can't wait to use my Henry 30-30 for open sighted whitetail and muley's. The history and traditional of the round and rifle is half the fun for me, that's also why I appreciate your channel! Next on my list is 6.5x55.
Thanks... having some downloading issues so have to keep the video quality a bit low. I love the 6.5's. Great balance of killing power and recoil. The caribou taken in the first cut away was done in with a 140 grain, 6.5 bullet from a 6.5 Rem Mag.
You suckered me into it :) These 94's BB's are hard to come by here in Norway, but I found one in pristine condition. Just waiting for the paperwork to clear with the police and then I have months ahead of me developing handloads for moose and deer. Cant wait to start testing it out on the range :)
They are surprisingly accurate and fun guns. 160 FYX for deer and 170 Nosler Partition FP in 170 grain with Varget or 4064 are good places to start though not sure how available these powders are in Europe? Have fun with it. One of my Aunts married a man from Norway who was in the resistance in WWII, Some amazing storied died with that man.... love your country!
Love the Big Bore Winchester 94s. I have one in a 375win. Although the 375 might not have the range of your 307, it's still a 200 yard gun. Like you, I love the Lever guns. Thanks for the video.
You call the Winchester 94 Big Bore 307 Win your "Retirement gun". I totally get it in regards to the ease of mounting a scope on this rifle. However, I'm surprised you didn't get one in the 356 Win. With your love for the 348Win, I would believe the 356 to be more in your wheelhouse. I'm interested why you went with the 307.
Do you think the 307 Winchester would benefit from Ackley improved chamber? It would be nice to get another hundred foot per second and be right up to 308 ballistics at least as good as you can get for the BC's. Thank you
No..I don't think it would help that much..the determining factor is the deep seating of bullets ..I doubt if you could get more than 50fps out of the 307 improved and it wouldn't make much of a difference. You'd also wreck the collectors value. The only spitzer to use is the FTX and driven faster it would just break up more. With a flat nose more speed doesnt help much either.
@@north61 Makes sense. I think it's good as is for what it was meant to be. I think it's just human nature it always want more. LOL I think it's perfect for me because I don't like scopes and I like aperture sites and it's plenty of effective within 200 to 300 yards I never shoot or hunt beyond that anyway. Thank you
Long time age before ground lenses were affordabe, people would make a small hole in something, too use as a loupe, when doing precise work like threading a needle.
I love my lever guns.. got a marlin 336 jm stamped (1964)30-30 and a Winchester 94 (1975) 30-30.. the marlin has a Leupold VX2 3-9-40 and the Winchester is going to have Peep sights... 30-30 is great here in the Foothills of NC ... i want to pick up a Marlin 336 .35 Remington too... love all these old Guns you show...greetings from nc tim
I use 170 grain Winchester Powerpoints have taken 5 deer w/ them and 7 ground hogs... i may try a higher end bullet this season to see if i like them better...
Of all thing my Dad is going back to Iron sights, his glasses throw of the scope, so it's pretty much impossible for him to use, weird to see that all come full circle.

Nothing wrong with a full freezer!
I had a model 94 in 307 Winchester. It was great! Now i have a 336ER in 356 Winchester. Love those levers

@@north61 Have you tried the leverevolution powder with the FTX bullets?
@@christerhauknes6840 Never got first rate accuracy so I stopped using it. Your rifle may vary.
I have a 94 XTR Big Bore in .356. I haven't hunted with it yet, but my father took a muley with it not long after he purchased it.
That was very interesting also got to see a lot of nice lever guns
Love those levers!

Yup they are all pretty great!
I need to try and find one. Good stuff

Sorry missed this.... The 356 velocity gets low enough that I find the 307 kills faster due to quicker bullet expansion.

Love that 405. Great video. I have the same interests.
Thanks for posting. However, aperture sights are (primitive) optical sights, not open sights.
Interesting. Never heard it put that way before.
@@north61 Pin hole camera, basically.

One of my friends uses a 30-30 for moose. At 30-30 velocities the 170 grain bullets really penetrate!

Just traded a SA XD 9mm pistol into a Marlin 336 JM .35Rem (1965)... 150grns to 250grn bullets.... Whitetail to Moose- Elk...
Great videos ,,,,,,,,,,,,Thanks for reminding me to stick to common calibers
It's a bit of work to feed the rare birds but they are very interesting!

I have a Turnbull mount for the 71 for the Burris Fastfire ii for when my eyes go. Can't keep a good man down!
Love the ole lever 450,but that being said the 325 wsm with a 180 grain bullet hits harder.it is lethal bear gun
great shooting buddy
Thanks Mate!
check out the Henry long ranger...
I have a Savage 99 in 284 Win for when a non traditional lever is needed. MOA capable with 150 Partitions.
32 win special
That will work too and it will be 1/2 pound lighter as well.
