The Lewis Chessmen - Origins and Evolution of Chess

In this first installment of a 4 short films, British Museum curator James Robinson focuses on how the Lewis Chessmen are linked to India in both the origin and the evolution of chess. We discover how the chess set is the first known to have a Bishop instead of an Elephant and how the Cluny chess set has a hybrid piece that combines an Elephant and Bishop figure.
