- Smíchov railway station is NOT one of the most beautiful parts of Prague. If you have ever travelled through it, you will surely agree with us that it deserves a proper reconstruction. And it's about to happen right now. We'll tell you what's coming up in the Live Prague series.
Discussions about this billion-dollar project have been going on for a couple of years now, but it looks like the people of Prague (and not only them) will finally get to see it. The first construction works, which will transform the pitiful station into a modern and complex transport terminal, are due to start this year.
The whole of Smichov is currently undergoing a major transformation in connection with the construction of the Smichov City district. The train station and the bus station Na Knížecí would not fit into its future shape in its current state. So the buses should be moved to Smíchovské nádraží, where they will connect to the trains, and a new square will be created at Na Knížecí.
The implementation of the Smíchov Terminal will be divided into eight stages. The first one, which will start this year, will begin with the removal of the existing iron footbridge and the construction of a new one closer to the station. What does the existing station building actually have in store? A completely new section will be added to the concourse with shops and passenger facilities. Another change will be the exit of public transport buses from Nádražní Street to the upper floor of the station building. And that's not all. A new administrative wing will be built, a fourth platform will be added, the underpass under the station will be extended to the new parking building. And the street in front of the station will also be improved. You can find out what you can look forward to in Smíchov in the video.
And how do you see the Smíchov Terminal? Do you think that the district deserves such a revolutionary transformation, or is it rather a waste of finances? Let us know in the comments!
