honestly if ea just kinda copied this and threw some animations from madden on the players it'd probably be decent enough. Its not like there isn't enough money in rugby to make a profitable game (ea even make anualised ice hockey games) the problem is that things like scrums and lineouts suck from a gameplay perspective because there hard to implement in a enjoyable way and kind of have to rely on dumb minigames.
I bought this game and it matched my expectations really. Its behind games of the same price but I wanted to buy it to do my bit to convince a big studio to make a proper game
Used to play that all the time my favourite thing to do was play as Namibia on hard and try to win a World Cup, so extremely difficult so I had to avoid a lot of ruck turn overs
I guess this game will be epic if all the players look similar to the real players and if u can play every tournament (like 6 Nations, Super Rugby, Rugby Championship witch this game doesn't have)
@@DarkMoonWayfarer Well, it's still satisfying to see the real player faces and to play in more tournaments. To have more features, always makes a game more interesting.
Thank for the review. I have played previous years of Nacon games. All I can say is unlicensed sucks and graphics are very poor, like you said compared to fifa Nacon need to take it to the next level do it for the fan's 🏉
Jonah lomu rugby in 1997 is the benchmark still, was a fantastic rugby game. The graphics were poor but the gameplay made up for it so I think we can overlook some of the graphics and licenced stuff in Rugby22 so long as the gameplay stacks up. Good to hear its good in that respect.
Me: This doesn't look that great. Also me: Watches Ben Vellacott pick the ball up from the back of a ruck and Scamper over for a try for Edinburgh and immediately boots Xbox and gets credit card out!
Why cant EA Sports just slap together Rugby 08 with updated rosters and a few new graphics given it was almost 15 years ago now and everyone will be happy. No rugby game has even come close to comparing to these garbage games.
Maybe it's because I played a lot of different sports long ago, but I can't even consider a sports video game as worth my while-closest I've come is crazy golf :) Video games took over as my main entertainment 25 years ago, so I've played a lot of different kinds-so it's not that I don't like games. I've also had the best experience as I've always played on PC-altho games nerfed to fit console performance have left a bit of a sour taste. I watched Squidge's review a few days ago also, so yeah, not for me. I wonder would a decent budget make a difference? The fidelity of body representation and fluidity of body movement in today's top games is phenomenal-heck, it was even very good in 2007's Crysis. So the totally stilted movement in sports games needn't be an always thing-or so I hope. A general Q: shouldn't field sports work much better as multiplayer rather than single player v AI? Local online teams could be really fun, each guy practicing the skills for his position. Make the first team, then the county… world is your oyster! Ok, enough rambling.
The weird thing is (and I returned to the game in question just to make sure) you could kick ground balls perfectly well in Rugby 18! It was also a lot less hectic than 20 was (and 22 looks - I'm still on the fence about buying it), which was a good thing in my opinion.
I bought this game recently and you talked about some of the problems that I also have with this game. If I could name all my problems then I would say that: The springboks aren't licensed, which sucks as well as England and the pumas obviously, some of the faces are real as you said, but that's only the all blacks and french players, the rest of the players have fake faces (except for Johnny Sexton) they should've made as most as possible faces look realistic, and as you said, when the players celebrate after scoring tries, their faces disappear into each others bodies etc. and again as you said, they don't show the players lifting the trophy after winning tournaments and then the replay is also very short and you can't watch it over and over again, then the COMMENTARY, compare to rugby challenge 4, the commentary of this game is kind off terrible, yeah it is robotic voices, but still, the should've worked harder on the commentary.
I really want to be optimistic about Rugby 22, but unfortunately it's just the same old same old. The graphics look like something from 2012, the game-play just seems un-natural, and it's seriously lacking that final layer of polish-Just the lack of licenced teams, stadiums and tournaments, the lack of animations, the lack of attention to detail..Admittedly, it's a step up from previous entries into the series-But that isn't exactly saying much, considering how woefully bad the previous Rugby games have been. In the dream world, us Rugby fans would have a Fifa equivalent game. But until that day, I think I will be sticking with Rugby 08 lol!
Every time when i see a new rugby game released, i get really excited! Only to be heartbroken after seeing a review. Why can't 2k or ea pick this up? (Yeah i know sales and such). I am thinking of buying the game, just te up te sales. Hopefully someday there will be a great rugbygame someday. I can handle bad graphics when the gameplay is solid. But the lack of licenses ia really dissapointing. But thanks for the review mate!
I wish they would just go the PES route and let people add everything in themselves, it's just a bit annoying do have this few teams. FIFA skirts by because they are really only missing a couple relevant leagues and teams but this game definitely seems lacking even coming from someone who only really follows France and the top14. Also I really wish they would add a proper career mode as a player or a club that continues on for multiple seasons. I feel like the career mode should be one of the easiest things to get right in a sports games, I see it done in €2 mobile games so why can't it be done in this. I haven't played Rugby 22 yet but in 20 the solo mode is essentially just an ultimate team mode but one player without any online play. It really doesn't make a lot of sense
(Sorry if this was said in the vid I skimmed through to check the graphics and animations) Multiple questions for anyone who can answer really how many players are in the all blacks squad or any squad do you get whatever 23 they choose or a depth squad that you can adjust and have a play with in the menu (I’ve never played any rugby 20 games before only played rc4 and all blacks rugby challenge)
Ratings are actually bad for many teams in the game. The Stormers are rated worst in URC even though they are far from the worst team in that tournament (currently 7th on the log).
Glad I found this. I've been searching for news about '24 and have pretty much resigned to the game being pretty delayed. So I've had this one ('22) in my (US) PS5 cart for a while however it's still $49.99....I've played Rugby 15 for about 3 hours and other than that, never played Rugby. One question that I would have is how easy is it to pick up the controls? I hate manuals however I think I just might need a manual for this haha.
If only Rugby actually had ambition and wanted to be more popular... If the various people in charge had any sense, the leagues, teams, stadiums etc would all be licensed at little to no cost to this developer - more people would buy the game despite other perceived shortcomings but, year on year, the increased sales = bigger budget for improvements and with increased popularity, a bigger developer could come in. Alas the people in charge of Rugby around the world seem to be forever short sighted with zero ambition.
