Needed to hear this. I've been living with chronic pain for years & years now. I've prayed & prayed everyday. I've had my faith group pray for me & still live with this unbearable painful condition. Why? I try to be happy but I hurt all the time. How can a person be happy with chronic severe pain?

People do not understand or face the fact that when your body is broken it's very hard to have a normal life. God gave me a dream and the word "Cortisol" was repeated several times boldly. I prayed to know the cause of my pain and he revealed it to me. God bless you :)
I used to believe this but not anymore. I pray all the time for god to relieve me of my financial situation. I’m a single mother, I study plus I’m working but still I am always poor. Even though I help myself. Why does god not help me then, huh? Even people. I ask god to remove people fro my life permanently who cause me stress but still they are still around. I don’t disturb nobody. I do the best I can and mind my own business. God never listens to my prays, god doesn’t see my sufferings, god doesn’t see how hard I work to try and support myself and my young son.

@@jakegoodman4810 The Book of Job is actually quite an insult. As if 10 more children could make him not grieve the loss of the first 10, or else he didn't care very much. I remember a preacher who brought up the quote people like to use: "When the going gets tough, the tough get going". He said "If the going gets tough enough, you'll QUIT going". If there are things one hasn't experienced for themselves (the going getting tough enough), they shouldn't speak of them. Another thing people like to say is God won't give you more than you can bear, but there are plenty of people who are past their breaking point in this world.

You have to deny yourself if you want to follow Jesus Christ. Your ego has to be overruled by your own spirit and the Holy Spirit should be allowed to rule the both of them. I agree, I've been bewildered and hurt and confused so many times walking in faith. But... The more you walk with God, the tougher, stronger and BOLDER you become as a human being. He , The Father takes you or allows you to go through hell and back in each and every circumstance. If it never gets easier each time you suffer, it's time to buckle down and cry out to him on WHAT you need to do to get that" rough cut diamond edge". Are you complaining about the situation? Are you angry that he isn't" there for you" or " protecting you"? Realize that he allows pain and hardship because he DOES care about you. " God reproves those he loves like a Father does his son" . He knows once you become born again Satan salivates at the prospect of eating you alive, so God goes to work and it may feel like you don't know which one is attacking you, God or Satan! Yes I agree. I am a witness. Since my mother's womb my life has been a living hell. It got even worse after becoming a Christian and since then I am constantly being harassed by demonic powers. Nothing good ever comes my way. Nothing. I am stuck in one spot. Can't progress financially. My parents have ruined my credit and is still ruining my credit. My dad wants to kill me and destroy my life. I can't even have a successful relationship and get married. No matter how hard I try my relationships fail. I wish God would just kill me. I want to die. There is no point in living if my life will not get better. I am 30 years old and have been a Christian since I was 20. Going to so many churches and not getting help from bondage. I'm truly beginning to believe that I'm just not chosen and God hates me very much. He is just sitting up there on his throne mocking and laughing at me and letting the devil raise hell in my life. SirRobbins Ridiculous. It's a terrible sakes pitch. After reading the Book of Job I was feel terrible for Job. He was a genuinely good man who became a pawn in a sick game between God and Satan. God made a DEAL with the Devil literally. God burned up his cattle (Fire sent from Heaven) then their enemies killed his kids, servants and cattle. But Job stayed faithful but it wasn't over. Then he was struck with boils all over his body. All this terrible stuff happened to a righteous man so God could prove a point. My quality of life is all but shot, yet I am blessed because Jesus loves me and died a horrible death so all (myself included) could have everlasting life. True, there is suffering we go through, but remember 2nd Corinthians 12:9 Strength is perfected in weakness. God wants us to persevere and be happy IN HIM. God owes us nothing, yet came to earth as man, died for us so we can fellowship with him. Our goal is not life here, but life in the presence of Jesus in Heaven. I agree with you. These apologists for god speak as though they had an intimate audience with their god. I, too, am under some suffering right now (and this is just one of the endless sufferings this benign and loving god has sent me since childhood) and no prayers ever did anything to relieve me of the pain he has caused. I would agree with your definition to a point. I see morality and good as anything that promotes God's happiness and glory. If you come from a theistic world view than you must see God as the ultimate in the universe. Everything that came into being came into being through him and for him. Outside of Him there is nothing. Therefore every thing he does is for his glory.
I suffer so much. Sometime's I'm too tired to get outta bed. I have like 15 things going on. Both physcial and mental,plus certain situations too. It all makes me so depressed and tired. But I still have faith in Jesus.
It all boils down to what you have as your core definition of "good/morally perfect". The definition I use is "something that promotes happiness, well-being or health OR minimises unnecessary harm or suffering OR both" (It can be applied to all sentient creatures). Using this yardstick acts can be assessed for their "goodness". I think it what most Western people use in practice.

I can understand your reticence in accepting the definition I put forward. It is, after all, merely a subjective preference to see people flourish. However, I don't think most people object to it. It is in fact what the vast majority of people actually believe in practice. I have found only a few die-hard religious people refuse to even consider it. It works for us as we evolved as social primates and this basic moral principle ensures our group survival.
Suffering is totally consistent with what the Bible says will happen to people in this life. If anything, the existence of suffering shows the validity of biblical teaching, not disproving it.

I would agree that a majority of people would claim to hold to that definition of morality. I think their actions would prove otherwise. I see revealed in the actions of a majority of people, both from a Christian world view and non Christian, the morality that says "I will see people flourish and seek the greater good as long as it coincides with my good. Thank you 😊😊 I've been through anxiety this week, my college entrance exam result says that I passed my first course choice which is mass communication yet, later I realized that I don't want that course, it's too much exposure and I want a simple life in college. I want to study BS psychology not mass communication, I tried everything I can to transfer myself to psychology but the school administrator said there's no vacant slot for me. I went on school for everyday just to check out if there's a student who cancel his slot so I can exchange him, but still none... I went on anxiety, I almost don't have a proper sleep. I can't imagine my self in the next four years of my life in the course I don't like. Yes, I can do shifting next semester but If I do that, there's a lot of consequences. And then I prayed to God and read a bible. On acts chapter 5, I just read how the apostles of God had been through persecutions but instead of feeling down and hopelessness, they're so glad and joyful that they've got all those pain and suffering because of God. And then I ask "Why should I be happy while suffering for God?" And then I found this video It says..... Everything right now, all the suffering, pain and discouragements are the foundation of my very deep happiness someday...." God is working behind the scenes... God has a reason for all of this. That argument has been put to me before. More along the lines of "a potter can re-mould his clay". We are not like clay, we are sentient beings, who feel pain, think and have hopes and plans. I, too, have been bullied all my life for a personality flaw and this god seems to me to be either unfeeling and uncaring or just plain sadistic and egomaniacal. If he is all powerful, why is he having such a difficulty lifting it and wiping it away? Or is he, as people long suspected, a cruel and tyrannical god who really respects no person.

I used to believe this but not anymore. I pray all the time for god to relieve me of my financial situation. I’m a single mother, I study plus I’m working but still I am always poor. Even though I help myself. Why does god not help me then, huh?

You have to deny yourself if you want to follow Jesus Christ. Your ego has to be overruled by your own spirit and the Holy Spirit should be allowed to rule the both of them. But... The more you walk with God, the tougher, stronger and BOLDER you become as a human being. He , The Father takes you or allows you to go through hell and back in each and every circumstance. If it never gets easier each time you suffer, it's time to buckle down and cry out to him on WHAT you need to do to get that" rough cut diamond edge".
Are you complaining about the situation? Are you angry that he isn't" there for you" or " protecting you"? Realize that he allows pain and hardship because he DOES care about you. " God reproves those he loves like a Father does his son" . He knows once you become born again Satan salivates at the prospect of eating you alive, so God goes to work and it may feel like you don't know which one is attacking you, God or Satan! " Satan walks around like a roaring lion seeking whom to devour).

Yes I agree. I am a witness. Since my mother's womb my life has been a living hell. It got even worse after becoming a Christian and since then I am constantly being harassed by demonic powers. Nothing good ever comes my way. Nothing. I am stuck in one spot. Can't progress financially. My parents have ruined my credit and is still ruining my credit. My dad wants to kill me and destroy my life. I can't even have a successful relationship and get married. No matter how hard I try my relationships fail. I wish God would just kill me. I want to die. This is so true. Jesus is speaking to us through John Piper. I have a type of cancer that causes chronic fatigue. My quality of life is all but shot, yet I am blessed because Jesus loves me and died a horrible death so all (myself included) could have everlasting life. True, there is suffering we go through, but remember 2nd Corinthians 12:9 Strength is perfected in weakness. God wants us to persevere and be happy IN HIM. God owes us nothing, yet came to earth as man, died for us so we can fellowship with him. Our goal is not life here, but life in the presence of Jesus in Heaven. It all boils down to what you have as your core definition of "good/morally perfect". The definition I use is "something that promotes happiness, well-being or health OR minimises unnecessary harm or suffering OR both" (It can be applied to all sentient creatures). Using this yardstick acts can be assessed for their "goodness". I think it what most Western people use in practice.

If God harms whom he wants he is not worthy of worship. God IS capricious, look at how he allowed Job to be treated for example. What disturbs me most about Christian apologetics is how otherwise good people come up with twisted logic to excuse Yahweh's dreadful actions. It...well...corrupts them, morally. Ironic really.

I can understand your reticence in accepting the definition I put forward. It is, after all, merely a subjective preference to see people flourish. However, I don't think most people object to it. It is in fact what the vast majority of people actually believe in practice. I have found only a few die-hard religious people refuse to even consider it. It works for us as we evolved as social primates and this basic moral principle ensures our group survival.
Suffering is totally consistent with what the Bible says will happen to people in this life. If anything, the existence of suffering shows the validity of biblical teaching, not disproving it.

Excuses for the Problem of Evil point to a "greater good" or "morally sufficient reason" for allowing suffering.
By that logic, we should inflict suffering (since it makes people better).

I would agree that a majority of people would claim to hold to that definition of morality. I think their actions would prove otherwise. I see revealed in the actions of a majority of people, both from a Christian world view and non Christian, the morality that says "I will see people flourish and seek the greater good as long as it coincides with my good. At whatever point the greater good of humanity departs from my perceived good then my good takes precedence".
Just one though comes to my mind: This god is whimsical, one-track minded, cruel, and egotistical. Like a brat, he needs some hard spanking.

I've been through anxiety this week, my college entrance exam result says that I passed my first course choice which is mass communication yet, later I realized that I don't want that course, it's too much exposure and I want a simple life in college. I want to study BS psychology not mass communication, I tried everything I can to transfer myself to psychology but the school administrator said there's no vacant slot for me. I went on school for everyday just to check out if there's a student who cancel his slot so I can exchange him, but still none...
I went on anxiety, I almost don't have a proper sleep. I can't imagine my self in the next four years of my life in the course I don't like. Yes, I can do shifting next semester but If I do that, there's a lot of consequences.
And then I prayed to God and read a bible. On acts chapter 5, I just read how the apostles of God had been through persecutions but instead of feeling down and hopelessness, they're so glad and joyful that they've got all those pain and suffering because of God.
And then I ask
"Why should I be happy while suffering for God?"
And then I found this video

God is working behind the scenes...

That argument has been put to me before. More along the lines of "a potter can re-mould his clay". We are not like clay, we are sentient beings, who feel pain, think and have hopes and plans. No, God does not own us. He has no "right" to harm us. No one would argue that a father has a right to harm his child.

I, too, have been bullied all my life for a personality flaw and this god seems to me to be either unfeeling and uncaring or just plain sadistic and egomaniacal. The apostles gave their lives and died gruesome deaths for the name of Jesus, not because they truly believed in a reformed myth or some work of fiction they had made up, but because Jesus appeared to them after his Death which confirmed everything he had said about himself being the Son of God. Paul, a radical Jewish soldier and Professor of the Old Testament changed his entire life of killing Christians because Jesus appeared to him.
