    52:38 Amazing that Pierre already saw it in the 70s! 1:12:27 😁 The final frontier. Nailed the importance of Angel as a milestone in ushering in the age of sweet perfumery. And Maurice is correct that the clientele or target consumer has changed over the years as well as the importance of a perfume's introduction. There's also the consideration of the true source(s) of their preferences - are they conditioned or predisposed to choosing one scent over another because of their upbringing or environment? Or is it internally driven? Love the bottle design myself. Functional and ergonomic. The pinnacle of perfection imo. Really appreciate the historical context. I would've loved to have heard more from Anne!

    If you love perfumes, this video will open your mind re the creative process and all the other elements that must come into synch before perfumes hit the shelves.
    I own and use Frédéric Malle perfumes and I find it enlightening and enchanting to listen to their creators ... and to understand how the personalities of these creators affect their perfumes!

    I’m not surprised that avant garde artists were rejected by the Academy in 1863 (any establishment resists and needs time to process change). However, the fact that even established artists are refusés today (41:15) gives me pause. Thank you for making these beautiful fragrances possible. 💗

    Very interesting and passionnating interview. Something they haven't really touched on, but that shines through is the humility and the ability to take hits. When Pierre Bourdon said that the last daring mainstream fragrance was Angel, that was a huge omission of the existence of La Vie Est Belle... Created by Dominique Ropion and Anne Flipo here in the room. But they took the hit remarkably well.
    Je regrette juste qu'Anne Flipo n'ait pas plus parlé ! Évidemment, elle connaît la maison depuis bien moins longtemps que les autres, mais elle a clairement quelque chose à dire. En particulier, j'aurais été curieux qu'elle parle du nouveau Malle sur lequel elle travaille. Et en tant que représentante de la nouvelle génération de parfumeurs, elle vit aussi une réalité différente aux autres.

    • @minashypnosis
      @minashypnosis 2 года назад +4

      It’s not necessarily a hit when you are aware of the context/brand/crowd La Vie Est Belle was made for. Personally, I can’t stand the fragrance, but I don’t blame it on the perfumer - I know what limitations are involved when you create for a brand like Estée Lauder nowadays
