The brand that saved us from smelling like cheap shower gel, uneventful fabric softeners, blue windex and the airport Duty Free section, thank you Frederic Malle! ❤️️
I am a composer, and I just love watching masters in their creative field talk about their craft. I especially love how many of them are fans of music as I am often inspired by fragrance! Thank you Frédéric for this conversation and bringing these great artists together!
I have so much respect for Malle and all the perfumers he’s worked with. His concept of Editions de Parfums are inspiring; we need to just truly be our best selves
The masters of scents! If you love perfumes, this video will open your mind re the creative process and all the other elements that must come into synch before perfumes hit the shelves. I own and use Frédéric Malle perfumes and I find it enlightening and enchanting to listen to their creators ... and to understand how the personalities of these creators affect their perfumes!
I’m not surprised that avant garde artists were rejected by the Academy in 1863 (any establishment resists and needs time to process change). However, the fact that even established artists are refusés today (41:15) gives me pause. Thank you for making these beautiful fragrances possible. 💗
52:38 Amazing that Pierre already saw it in the 70s! 1:12:27 😁 The final frontier. Nailed the importance of Angel as a milestone in ushering in the age of sweet perfumery. And Maurice is correct that the clientele or target consumer has changed over the years as well as the importance of a perfume's introduction. There's also the consideration of the true source(s) of their preferences - are they conditioned or predisposed to choosing one scent over another because of their upbringing or environment? Or is it internally driven? Love the bottle design myself. Functional and ergonomic. The pinnacle of perfection imo. Really appreciate the historical context. I would've loved to have heard more from Anne!
Very interesting and passionnating interview. Something they haven't really touched on, but that shines through is the humility and the ability to take hits. When Pierre Bourdon said that the last daring mainstream fragrance was Angel, that was a huge omission of the existence of La Vie Est Belle... Created by Dominique Ropion and Anne Flipo here in the room. But they took the hit remarkably well.
It’s not necessarily a hit when you are aware of the context/brand/crowd La Vie Est Belle was made for. Personally, I can’t stand the fragrance, but I don’t blame it on the perfumer - I know what limitations are involved when you create for a brand like Estée Lauder nowadays
He wrote a book with many parfumeurs a very deep book and complex one the name is question en parfumerie. But i don’t think you’ll be able to find it today
yes I noticed that too - mainly in the awkward moments when they were talking on top of each other so I think they tried to smooth it out for English speakers both linguistically and culturally
I am a big fan of mr. Fredrick malle and mr. Dominique ropion.... And I am also working for fragrances in my country... How can I get this book from you 🥰🥰to get inspired
Merci d'avance.
No, he's actually talking about a fragrance project, where the idea was to have the smell of the Nivea cream as a perfume. I don't think it went as planned though ! By the way, I hope you speak French, because the subtitles were rubbish on many occasions... There was one or two time where it said about the opposite to what was actually expressed by the artists here.

Pierre Bourdon seems like a character. I'd love to get drunk with him and get him started on an assortment of topics.
Haha me too.

Pierre Bourdon is a party animal, dude seems like a legend
Thoroughly enjoyed the insights about the process and the creators behind the fragrances. True artists and big fan!
I would love more frags from Pierre Bourdon.
I'm dying to see an interview or read a book where Pierre Bourdon describes the creative process behind making YSL Kouros!

Big point by Maurice at 57:00
Today i have recieved the parfum Lipstic Rose. Beautiful fragrance❤🎶🎵🎵🎵💄
It's funny that Jicky was transcribed as GK in 1:07:09
Who the hell made the subtitles ?!?!?
I agree. They don't know Maurice Ronet, a French film actor who was the star of Ascenceur pour l'Echafaud by Louis Malle, a masterpiece!
AI?
Everybody I mean everybody knows Musc ravaguar and Portrait of a Lady is the masterpieces of this story.
I really enjoyed watching this but just one piece of feedback - so much of this just seems untranslated and I'm not sure why.
Love
Thank you Pierre Bourdon for creating Kouros
🥰🥰🥰
From now on, he will forever be known as Jean-Claude "Nivea" Ellena. 😂
why sell to Estee Lauder and lose your independence?

@@tombarsens1277 Probably, and also, people want their cream to smell like a fragrance, not a fragrance to smell like their cream.
Imagine a bomb going off on the set: the fragrance business is down.
