great points...on the first issue of boot v trail shoe, alot of you tubers seem to be in one camp or the other , rather than seeing them as diff tools for different jobs. Im predominatly dartmoor, so my choice is is it warm? im i mostly on a trail, do i want wet feet all day, am i scrambling over granite clitter fields and want to protect my feet from phyisical damage? these choices determine the footwear i will use.
Same with the "waterproof" jackets , i have a ME saltoro shell and 2 paramo jackets, again, diff tool doing diff jobs, TBH i do prefer Paramo , its way more breathable, but its heavier and can be a lot warmer, its windproofing is actually more useful as a weather barrier imo, something jackets barely talk about in their function. Shells i find more useful as something to carry to put on when the weather gets bad, something to carry on multiday trips, light enough to carry, chuck it on when it rains, take off agian, Paramo is more, leave it on all day type of thing..i could waffle bout this all day, lol but yer..diff tool doing diff jobs

way i explain it to people asking about waterproofs.
Does the water/moisture from the outside outweigh the moisture coming from inside? Yes: put a waterproof on. No: don't bother.
