I flew the 'G’ model BUFF in the mid-70s on SAC alert against the USSR after I got back from Guam’s bombing missions. Do you see those two center levers, the tallest ones? I used those two during air-to-air refueling after the copilot set all eight levers and got all their sets of gauges to the same readings, when we stabilized with the boom right in front of us. Then after the KC135 boom operator washed our windows, checked our oil, and checked the air in all of our ten tires; he'd clear us in. That's when I'd take charge of the two tall levers to move forward until he moved the boom’s probe from in right in front of us to insert the probe for us to lock it in. But as pilot, I never watched or looked at the boom. I transitioned early on to see the 3D array of points on the bottom of their airplane that I used to hold our position behind and below the tanker. While we practiced 'break aways', an emergency separation that could be called by the boom operator, KC135 pilot, or B52 pilot, I never had an unplanned one. There were stories of the Buff coming home with the boom still plugged in and that sure never happened to me. I did land once with a low tire that heated way up but didn't blow. I blamed the boom operator for not checking every tire.
A very impressive aeroplane by any standards, but knowing very little about it I would have thought that the B52 would be an easy target with modern surface to air missiles and other AA weaponry, they are such a massive target and not easy to hide.

@@anais-teodoruCome on. Russia is doing the same in NATOs backyard for decades. Whats going on now in Ukraine has more to do with a big ego of a small man…
@@ckeuer Ukrainians, having plundered the legacy of the USSR, decided to sell security and national pride to Russia. With the collapse of the Union, Russia left Ukraine territories like brothers, without demanding the return of what the Ukrainian SSR received as a gift from the RSFSR. The leadership of Ukraine, to please Britain and the United States, decided to remove the Russian naval base from Crimea and install bases for the United States and Britain. Bases in Crimea and Ochakov led to Russia losing the Black Sea. All this led to the political "failure" of modern Russia in the 17th century, and all the sacrifices Russia had suffered in this region for several centuries would have been in vain. In addition, Zelensky, against the backdrop of intensifying shelling of the Russian-speaking DPR and LPR, began to threaten Russia with nuclear weapons at the official level. About a year before the start of the invasion, the Russian expert community began to discuss the topic of moving the capital of Russia inland. Add to this offensive chants towards Russians and the President of Russia, which ordinary citizens of Ukraine began to demonstrate everywhere. Apparently, due to the current situation, after calculating losses, threats, costs and political damage, the Russian authorities came to the conclusion that a war, even the most difficult one, would be cheaper. If Russia had not started hostilities, it would have begun to seem weak and neglecting the memory of its ancestors (this is exactly what the leadership of Ukraine tried to do for many years) and no sane country would respect it. That is why Putin says that the goals of the special operation will be achieved in any case.

These are great pilots, as are all US military. It looks like you really have to "fly" those B-52s.
That thing must be like flying a dinosaur. Where’s my G1000🩶? I can’t operate without it.
I was amazed at how cramped the flight deck was when I first looked into a B52 in a museum.
I will disappoint you guys, while you were "allegedly" getting to the backyard, air defense missile batteries led you from 400 kilometers while you were still on approach to the fence of this yard. And in a real fight, you would already be dead.
The same batteries that are being destroyed by Ukrainian FPV drones? 😂😂😂
sheeeett....my Huey gunship had that endurance....................when it was in the cargo hold of a C5 galaxy
Imagine a tu-95 would fly in US backyard. Hypocrisy at its best.

One aircraft. Massive statement of US firepower. Beautiful machine.
I was a Buff pilot for many years. I never remember flying with just headset, always had to have at least one pilot on helmet and Oxygen. One scene shows the CP seat with the ejection pin still installed. Nice new electronics, but its still a pilot flying that keeps thing in the air. I would go back tomorrow given the chance, a great airplane. Hard to fly well, but really rewarding. Imagine flying 300 feet above the ground at 500 knots through the mountains of Wyoming at night and you will understand what we practiced to do if called upon. This airplane, when I flew it, was a deterrent to the Soviet Union and kept this country free.
Why did they both take helmets etc off I wonder
russians spent all their money on tech to build missiles, rockets to take out these flying targets--useless in a real fight with a real adversary--they will all be blasted out of sky in minutes-flying joke and everybody but you knows it--russians would have liquidated the usa anytime they wanted to--don't be delusional
I was Nav & RN, 1978-1987, Grand Forks & Carswell. Didn't recognize most of the panels in the "Battle Station."
Amazing thing is that airplane is older than the crew who flew on it

I wanted to ask what happens if US retires something like an aircraft, do they sell it to other countries or they just leave it in the desert or museums? Thanks
I started my Air Force career as an aerial tailgunner in 1978 on the D model, I was actually in the tail. moved up to the G and H models later, much more comfortable ride as far as the big ol’ fat fellow goes.
Flying in Russia's backyard... and then we wonder why Russia is doing what it's doing now...
Yes!) with love from Russia!)
