Things are never the same again BUT I just know that your hearts will heal in time and hopefully you can cherish the memories of time that you did have with your Fathers! I have a Family member married into the Family who has been dealing with it as well. Thankfully he has lived a pretty long life already and his wife bless her heart is doing her best to tend to his daily needs. I'm thankful we were also able to spend last year's holidays with him/them & are hopeful to be able to this year. It always hurts losing a parent, especially those who were "good to you".... I lost my Father when I was 21, then a man I worked with who became like a second Father to me at that time, then my Stepfather in 2019 and most painfully for me, my beloved Mother just before Thanksgiving 2022.... I took care of her the last 4 yrs of her life, the most painful/stressful thing ever, nearly losing my own life in the process after suffering a medical emergency from neglecting my own health and the stress took it's toll. Praise be to God I'm on my own road to recovering from that as I thank Father God for every day He gives me! And as painful/stressful as all of it was, I thank Father God for the honor/privilege to be able to be there for my beloved Mother when she needed me most!
I went through all of her and her husband's things by myself which was a near 3-month long task traveling between cities whilst going to see her in the hospital daily for hours to bring her snacks and spend time with her which was a real task since it was during the "rona" restrictions and then in the nursing facility temporarily whilst she regained some mobility. Then I finally moved her in here and took her for treatments 3x's/wk, doctor apts., intermittent hospital/nursing home stays, dealt with some not-so-professional "healthcare professionals", a variety of procedures, kept her clothes and linens clean getting the blood/"accident stains" etc., cleaned up, preparing all of her meals, ensuring she took her meds daily, kept up her medical equipment, sat up with her during the nights she was sickest and dealt with the rest of the normal daily affairs.... Until people go through it, they have no idea what it's like caring for someone you love enough to give your life for and you can't "fix" things, you can only try to make their last days the best you can. I certainly didn't until I did. It's a different relationship but it's given me a perspective on what millions of husbands/wives go through every year caring for the person that means the world to them....
