    You spoil us, Tony - and bless you for it, thank you so much. Many is the night of insomnia where your stories have kept me company - even when I know them well after a few listens, I get so engrossed. Somehow your voice and style make it easy to suspend my disbelief and let you tell me how the story unfolds even though I already know! Such an amazing gift you have.

      Very kind. These are old stories, but just done differently. You will remember how I used to moan that people fell asleep in my stories. Now I want them to. In any case, it's nice to think I'm doing something helpful. Thanks Yvonne

    Just listening to 'Usher'...I had to smile, early on in the story. The protagonist takes a couple of intense and vivid paragraphs to explain how miserable and depressed he is, and how the landscape reflects his gloomy mood, and then goes on to say that Usher has invited him to visit in the hope that our storyteller's cheery demeanour will rub off on him :) A genuine question: do you think this was a deliberate bit of humour on Poe's part? I've never noticed anything like that in Poe before!

    • @ClassicGhost
      @ClassicGhost  Год назад +3

      Hmm. I would need to turn over to a Poe expert. I don't get a lot of humour from Poe, but that might be him being subtle or me being dim. Either way his plan isn't going to work :)

    • @veradennis7502
      @veradennis7502 Год назад +1

      No, it isn't! Yep, I was wondering if I'd been a bit dim, too, and allowed all manner of wry witticisms to go over my head when I'd read his work before. I'm glad you agree that it wasn't deliberate - I was a bit flummoxed to think that all these years, I'd been reading Poe 'wrong'! But for me, it just adds to the enjoyment if there's some unintended laffs thrown into the mix! Keep up the good work, Tony :)@@ClassicGhost

    ORIGINALS! Here I was enjoying and wondering: Dracula? Frankenstein? Outta know, read both, but not for years - and as I ferociously typed, poor you! I wish my babble was PRIVATE, AS I FEEL LAUGHED AT- AN OLD LADY/HAG/BAG, whatever the "in" ephithet- John Cleese time, couldn't resist! Whatever the contemporary slang is for a person over 55- truthfully I never thought I'd get to be old- you know what I allude to- To vs Too- can't remember. All the experts shoot their little pointed heads off about "oh, when you're going senile, you are the last person to find out" NOT TRUE- my father knew, I swear he had a very frightening, talk of horror! Inkling he was "changing" - when he got to be 88 or 90? my mom almost gleefully put him a home and then after causing mayhem over "the damned TV remote- gotta get the NEWS 24/7! HIS OLD MAN, LOUD, RUDE, FART SOUND- AWFUL MAN- family lore, gossip, had it that he twice raped my aunt, his daughter for getting preggers, aborting one with coat hanger- he was a pig- understatement I know and one is hesitant to believe it but knowing him or more to the point family gossip- sadly I DID believe my "Holly Golightly" aunt, a tad histrionic but as they said, before I was born, A BLAST, I adored her- yes, what does a 6yr old know, before the internet, when I got to be teenage and "counter-culture" no "homemaker was I going to be, "domesticus slavibus" - sadly my aunt, who married a millionaire, a Brit who lived in Bermuda and owned a charming B and B in the Cotswolds which their daughter inherited and sold! Don't know why- I saw a photo of it and planned to "honeymoon" I expected to pay not freeload as I only met her once when she was 2! My entire family and those who enter at own peril, are -uckingwhackjobs- some very nice, but odd- she became an alcoholic but eventually joined AA and got sorted out. If my father raped me ( if you do talk therapy when you give injections on home visits, I recommend for survivors of Incest, y the author of The Vagina Monologues, hilarious and informative and shows how through struggles with addiction, self harm, a "dose" suicide attempts, one can TRIUMPH, AND HELP OTHERS WITHOUT SPITE ONLY- she's a Buddhist, might know Wim, the book, THE APOLOGY, much more powerful than it sounds- she and two other actors performed it for RUclips- check it out. It's the territory of reality which makes your stories, not horrific nor too scary for comfort or healing- I had to sort my therapist out on your channel, L'Estrange, Simon Stanhope- MY FAVS- and EDWARD FRENCH for his voice, the timbre? and some different tales- you writers, narrators- channels dedicated to The Macabre Amaze me with your ferreting so MANY stories, talk about well read! Time consuming- does your family help? TWO ORIGINAL TONY WALKER STORIES! YES! THIS AFTERNOON WHEN I AM "WANDERING" AROUND TRYING TO FIND A GOOD HORROR OR MURDER MYSTERY WITH SUSPENSE FILM, I CAN REWIND THIS- you are SO talented! And you use such polished ie "old" English, the style of the great Victorian and earlier, writers, poesy language so evocative! Namaste ( I'd seriously like any ideas since your in the field on senility, nutrition or recommended reading- thank you. Shan't bother you again for weeks, please don't BAN me- "thanks mate"- NAMASTE ( do you ever listen to The Dalai Lama 's talks?) Does your wife who sounds a most intriguing lady listen to certain channels- does she have her own channel? Sincerely, me

    I wish I could send the occasional photo- a picture being worth a thousand words! Yes, thinks Tony, ah yes- a photo of one of her DREAM ingle-nook sp massive Tudor? stone hearths- a fireplace large enough to roast an ox! Not one of the silly, portable, plug it in, "Ah, isn't that adorable and geez it almost looks like flames ( no FAKE SCENT button) we own on, our attic- we have radiators, no furnace, a boiler from hell which disallows for central air- that being good and bad- I mean REAL LOG BURNING NOT GAS AND EXORBITANT RIP OFF RATES, NOW BLAMED ON VLAD THE IMPALER PUTIN- you read a description of a certain wood burnt that night in yon fireplace- different trees have different aromas when used for heat or ambience- your German? Not sure what story you're reading: "Gerrald...made by bees who collect pollen on the brightest days...a voice as sweet as honey- Hungary- perhaps you were speaking Hungarian-? Marvelous. What a talent you have for accents too. I wish I could "bup" a photo now and then- directing one to a Pinterest account, another frigging password- I can't recall mine- I stay away from Pin. generally because I'm "gone" for hours- other people's fantasies, collections, etc- fantastic place to wander- my " absolute finito" as Holly Golightly says, is a Tudor? or the period before it in a castle? A book I bought when Amaze had decent prices and set postage- British interiors- "dream homes" castles in one or two instances- my perfect bedroom belonged to an actor- Ralph? Bates, of Hammer House or Amicus horror flick fame, his wife Virginia went over the top with lace, pillows, beads, NOT A GUY BED- her dentist had discarded an antique brass four poster- cast-off- worth a few thousand now- in the 1960's, I read, one could buy WILLIAM MORRIS, ARTS AND CRAFTS, GENUINE FURNITURE AND SOFT FURNISHINGS/ FITTINGS- ? for near thrift shop prices- not antique because not 100 years old- I have 3 pieces- one, VERY beat up but our cat loves it- a Stephen King, HAUNTED PIECE- I jest but I remember reading, the actor Billy Bob Thornton won't buy antiques BECAUSE OF SUPERSTITIOUS JIVE HIS GRANDMOTHER TOLD HIM- old stuff is cursed- he's eccentric to say the least- do you believe in such a curious notion? Tony, they say when a person is "going funny" ie senile, THEY aren't aware- I disagree and I am not THAT OLD- you're a nurse- yes I got tested 3yrs ago by a neurogerontologist- misnomer but she was a special sort of gerontologist- extra studies, credentials, very kind, a gentle tiny woman- she'd be non-threatening to a frightened senior- the sort who'd have made house calls back in the day- my therapist referred me to put my mind at ease! Bottom line: I'm fine but if I wasn't ASIDE FROM A DRUG, ABILIFY? THERE'S NOTHING TO BE DONE- you're screwed mate- my therapist assures me it is many drugs, prescribed and I very, very rarely drink any alcohol even mead which I love, yes it's a "medieval festival trippy sort of thing" does taste good though or Guiness- I was NOT aware a woman is NOT SUPPOSED TO IMBIBE THE STUFF! I gave the male who said that inane observation to me- he DID make the remark with professorial gravity! SOME MEN- no I won't pin my hair a la Virginia Woolf- don't have enough for starters! And begin another page on A Room of One's Own sort of diatribe! But "what a twit"! Do women in the pubs you frequent or frequented - coffee with Wim Hoffer- he's a CLOSE friend? Lucky you- he is on my "if I could meet" list. Is stout, black ale, not drunk by women- the heir to the Guiness Gazillions is a very cool lady- dresses to "kill,die" for- lots of good stuff in it- iron rich for one, isn't it? Cure your anemia by becoming an alcoholic! Fattening though- my father was put on it to fatten up after he got out of the navy- RUclips is putting little "banner" notices up to tell me to shut up- I DID mean to write only 3 lines- DIFFERENT WOODS DO HAVE DIFFERENT AROMAS WHEN BURNED AND IT'S GLORIOUS TO OWN A REAL FIREPLACE! Namaste ( sorry, at least I don't annoy you very often) any ideas about my falling hair, Nurse Walker? I'm working on Scrooge Spouse! to become a Patron but don't hold your breath! Wim Hoffer!

    Hi Tony, how are you and the family- all well I hope. Your wife sounds like a VERY interesting ( like you) woman- on one of your after the tale if you are still conscious! you mentioned a trip she had go on- a meeting with others into Wiccan? type practices- crystals- but much deeper- doesn't every teen have crystals hanging next to their Ikea lights, lanters, stars, etc- perhaps I lag behind there, you know about my description of "a jailer" and I watch "old" movies- ie 1990's or 2010! I must as the comment below acknowledge your generosity- I've been working on Scroogius Maximus- a Christmas present?! Yeah! S: are you SERIOUS? glaring at me who had been called in to state "what have you actually watched on ACORN!!! glares, Me: lots and can I friggin leave, I am an adult or I THOUGHT I was with my own! ie social securitydisabilityinheritedsmallamount! Thinks: you cheap..." Ah marriage. I love my spouse but...WE ALL HAVE FAULTS...I wish to sponsor you and Master L'Estrange and possibly an incredible alt folk blues KIND guy who also forages, shows how to cook it too. He came to my attention via Tom Waits and Leonard ( got his "new"book a posthumously released "gold mine"- a third novel he was fiddling with when he lived in Greece and maybe after 1970 too? Very exciting for us Cohrn- heads) if you enjoy Richard Thompson - The Great British Folk Renaissance of the 60's and 70's- I listen to those artists all the time. He also covers Otis Redding! Sigh when I'm really BLUE but the best for last 5 original songs, albums! He started a Patreon, band camp campaign because of the insane costs of making an album- 150,00.00 ? Engineers, studio space and time, lackies, cover art etc- as somebody doing what you do you can imagine, attest to how much the releasing of an album costs- I in my sleep fog was flabbergasted! Great word that, very W. C. Fields! "Ah yes, my little shoo fly why don't you kid, shoo off, you" patting the kids head, obviously a little brat ready to steal an orange etc lob something at him...ALAS, KIND SIR, I HAD TO GET YET ANOTHER PILL! TO SLEEP- not a sleeping pill, or tryptophan or valerian or melatonin- I do intend to try those again. It was take this anti-psy. or it's The Sleep Disorders Clinic! Been there no way- your head and chest? covered in electrodes, a guy at at window watching, "relax" ! Lights out! In a neo-nazi like, nasty nanny voice. No I do lie here- they were very nice BUT for a shy type like me- RELAX? and no caffeine in the am- no soap, tooth brush- no shower, barely time to comb your hair- OUT, NEXT SHIFT, YOUR DOCTOR WILL CALL YOU...Me: nurse, excuse me, nurse Ah, always listen to ghost stories, folk- horror, NOT GRISLY AND I CLOSE MY EYES, NO GLARE, this channel, this kind, indulgent narrator and author too, he recorded some stories with ambient raindrops- really coolsville- so I kind of like NEED MY HEADPHONES BUT THEY WON'T GO OVER ALL THIS SCINCE FICTION CRAP YOU ATTACHED TO MY POOR, ADLED BRAIN- Nurse " what's the point dear- I used to get "kid" now I'M THE OLDSTER- don't dig this- 4 score and blah blah blah...To sleep, to die, to dream perchance - I KNOW THAT IS INCORRECT- slept until 3:30, thought the clock said 4:30- but our liver has "circadian cycled" - can you picture me, clinging like a kid with a Teddy bear! Yelling, Tony, Jasper! Dr. Frankenstein- I want to speak to the manager- wimpy me morphs into Godzilla- " a Karen" you must know about that meme, I guess it's a meme? The nick name used to describe women with blonde, hair styled short a la Vidal WHO?! Sassoon- HE'S THE MANAGER- they are in their 30's or 40's and VERY BOSSY AND THEY COMPLAIN OBSTREPOROUSLY- LIKE MY LATE FATHER- THEY DON'T KEEP THEIR TONGUES CIVIL AND THEIR SON-LAW IS A LAWYER, LIKE MARLON BRANDO, RICHARD DREYFUS- THEY HAVE LAWYER ACQUAINTANCES AND IF THIS HAIRCUT, THAT RACKET YOU ARE MAKING, those women- Russell Brand "captured" one on his old show Ponderland- I'd never heard of "the Karen" phenomenon- I go to Rusty Shears or Sweeney Todd 's Cuts and More when I go- my HAIR IS COMING OUT AT AN ALARMING RATE- YOU'RE A NURSE- I AM TOLD I AM CLASSIFIED AS BORDERLINE ANOREXIC- Ludicrous. I am pescatarian but I eat enough- "Yugoslavia" yesterday I watched 2 hours of The Guardian and BBC footage of The Ukraine- as a pacifist and decent human being - I was SICK- one elderly man said "if I had one of those fascists in front of me I'd cut him to death! with a knife- " something like that but the others interviewed, under 25 and kids mostly were optimistic and rebuilding- now if I was a BILLIONAIRE LIKE GATES AND MUSK ETC- if I ruled the world- I can't even run my little life...with a sleep- end lines by Dante or Shakespeare, Marianne Faithfull quoting, "our little life is rounded with a sleep"? She used to recite those lines at the end of her show when she was doing Weill, Brecht, and Noel Coward, "If Love Were All"? Great song, that, and a great performer to end with, Marianne Evelyn Gabriel Faithfull- did you ever look up her childhood home near Ipswich? A crazy Gothic, Georgian, Tudor? "Stage set, architecture " said her father, Major Glynn Faithfull- a VERY CURIOUS FELLOW, made the castle/manor house into a school, Braziers? Thanks for the raindrops, lovely in the daytime too. Can we hope for AN ORIGINAL STORY FOR HALLOWEEN? I hope so! Hugs and all that jazz...Namaste from Sincerely NOT a Karen
