Two dramatic years in the history of the TT. Mike Hailwood was awesome in 1961 and even formidable riders such as Rhodesian Gary Hocking on his MV Agusta couldn't defeat the Oxford rider, who crowned his week with a 100mph average speed for the Senior race.

The 1960s was a fascinating era where bike racing was concerned 👍
You're right there, lot of innovation going on between two-stroke and multi cylinder four-strokes. I remember bike racing not being televised very much... even the TT. Bike racing was a minority sport as far as TV was concerned..Ahhh! the smell of R and all the different engine music...great days indeed.
*I well remember the Race of the Year at Mallory Park September 1964, still treasure the Program, and long after the race had finished and the crowds had gone and living locally, asking a Marshall if I could drive my car (Citroen DS19) around the circuit, he said better ask 'Mike' (Hailwood) and directed me to him. I asked Mike, who I had briefly met a number of times before, and he said of course you can, and told the Marshall to let me through the top gate (Near Hairpin) - He said come back after we are having a bit of a Party with Chris Barber later. Did two/three laps and then went back. Mike appeared genuinely pleased to see me again and asked how I got on. Had a good laugh together as we found had a lot of common interests (3 years older than me and born on the same date 2nd April) and had been to the Belgian Grand Prix the previous year in my Morris Minor 1000. Stayed until late with many of the riders and "Chris Barber & his Jazzmen" playing. Imagine that today, the pits were open and you didn't need a fancy pass to get in.*
Wow...Great memories...
Awesome, cool, thanks for sharing that wonderful story!
Did meet Chris Barber ,Mike , Luigi and Redman 😉🏆
Thank you very much for your sincere words to remind us of a beautiful moment that explains well what Mike the Bike was like (car of course) and what the racing world was like until the years after Villeneuve. Thank you very much for the beautiful memory of the greatest motorbike champion of all time.
@@davide6656 *I am 79½ years old now but remember it well ! My brother with me at the time sadly died 2021*
Great footage of classic road racing!
🙌 I wish I had a timemachine!
Oh how times have changed
Best sounding bikes ever. 🏁🇯🇵
Wow, those little twins were sturdy to go the distance putting out all those ponies.
@@whalesong999 Really amazing, especially for the time. 🏁🇯🇵
Sounded great, until the Honda six came out. Can't decide which one sounded better, the Honda six, or the Benelli four.
@@ginge8919 It’s all music, it just depends on which song you prefer.
The True G.O.A.T. ;)
They were all heroes god bless them all
Nothing comes close to that era for the sound of those Hondas
Classic.
And there's a geezer puffing on a cigarette as he wheels a bike around. The good old days....
Reminds me of Barry Sheene smoking through a hole drilled in his helmet
@@ronanrogers4127 It's true. When I was in mining, I burned a hole through my fly face net so I could puff away. Stopped the habit years ago mind. I loved it, smoking...
That geezer was Mike's father Stan and yes smoking around racing bikes was very common.
Stan Hailwood smoking, pushing away Mikes Honda, I think Stan Hailwood Was MD of Kings of Oxford a wealthy businessman who supported Mike in his early career, ensuring he had the best equipment a privateer could have.Still pleased to push away his works Honda what a dad 😁 SMB Hailwood GOAT
To get killed on the way to the effing chip shop with his little girl. Tragic.
Golden Days
old school!
!!Wow!! Just Bring The Video GAME!!! Xbox One,Or PS4!! WHEN!!?? The HISTORIA Of TT! The Warriors!!! sound Crazy¡??
Sounds great!!! 🏁
I thought that was Luigi sitting on the bank with friends, maybe an editor slip! Or his stunt double!
One of the great privileges of my life is that I have met Hailwood, Taveri, & Redman, & was proud to do so. All great men in their own right, however, for me, SMB was the governor, & will forever occupy that place in my heart
Me too ..plus at the 1979 TT sitting on Mikes Ducati in the paddock. #14 ..= 5.place !
That MV sounds sweet.
Honda été devenu les Maîtres et leur pilotes souvent Anglo saxo 🤩🤩🤩
3:00 *On tyres that I have bigger today on my Mountain Bike awesome*
👍👍👍👍👍👍
00:35 *Think that in fact is not 'Signpost Corner' but at Creg-Ny-Baa.*
Nope definitely signpost. Have a look at this more recent image of the corner, it's barely changed! i.ytimg.com/vi/uH9TGPexHqM/maxresdefault.jpg
I wonder what time you'd expect from these bikes with modern tires
probably not much more. sticking tyres would show the deficiencies in the chassis and suspension, its a good thought though
@@boss302gorie8 they had basic suspension yes, but if the damping is correct then it is more than enough for featherweight bikes. People put shit on old suspension but it didn't have stiction problems. Chassis, again, sufficient for the power, weight etc. Ever heard of a featherbed chassis??? A great basis for a bike even today.
Goody goody
was this the honda 250 6 cylinder??
No, these were 125cc twins.
cool
CB92/125???
no
These were the improved version of the RC143 designated 2RC143, bevel drive double overhead camshaft 4 valve per cylinder producing a claimed 22hp at 14000 rpm and as has been mentioned twin cylinder.
I had fatter tires on my Schwinn. Scary.
