    Ancient Cambodia was an ancient civilization just like the Mayans and Ancient Greeks. But a bit younger. Its not really taught in Western History classes though. It was like the Ancient Greece of Mainland Southeast Asia. Thailand has been influenced a lot by Ancient Cambodia. Especially Hindu traditions since Thailand was never a Hindu Nation. In Muay Thai, they have techniques based on the Hindu god Hanuman even though Thailand was never Hindu. The King of Thailand still has a Hindu priest in his royal court since that's what the Ancient Khmer Kings had. The warrior tattoos that Muay Thai fighter have are still written in Old Khmer, the language of the Ancient Cambodia.
    Also, I believe Angkor Wat wasn't destroyed is because it is the largest temple in the world. It is extremely well designed and engineered. It is made out of rocks of laterite and sandstone that are incredible heavy. Disassembling it would be just as hard as building it. I think Siam burned down Angkor Wat but the rock foundation can't be burned.
    Thanks for sharing about Cambodian martial arts.

      True about the Thai though because they weren't hinduist and there first main religion which they got exposed is Theravada Buddhism. The khmer back then were Trimurti, Mahayana buddhism then you got Southern Esoteric Buddhism which King Jayavarman 7th took interest even though he follow Mahayana. As for Angkor structure, the first layer is sand then laterite then sandstone. If you try to carve like a flower or animal on laterite, it wouldn't look pretty that is why sandstone is the last layer.

      The original size of angkor wat was about 4 times the area. There's only hints of what used to be there because the rest of the city was wood in construction!

      Cambodia love to point at thier angkor wat and claim every thing , but they don't like to talk about two army that carve on angkor wat that is Lavo army and siam army , and that is the two kingdom that mix it together become history of thailand .
      what more cambodia they destroy the word "Syam kuk" that carve on angkor wat to trying hide something about this history.

    Thank you kindly for telling the truth of Khmer martial art and the history of Cambodia and your love for the Khmer. Due to many civil wars and neighboring invasions for many centuries Khmer culture is the brink of collapsing and now Khmer finally coming back from the dead. May God bless you.

    well one of the muay thai moves is called chab Khaw, "Grab neck" in thai is a khmer derived word. Compared to the original tai language, they dont have that word.

    No disrespect to Thailand but Muay Thai did come from Cambodia. My aunt who is Khmer married a Thai man, so he is my uncle. My thai uncle who is very pro-thai said "Muay Thai came from Thailand. But the art evolved from Cambodia's Martial art. We just "cleaned it up" and made it modern". His reasoning was admitting due to the fact that Khmer Empire influenced Thailand. That is coming from a Thai guy which surprised me.

    Pradal Serey is more of the proper name but everybody call it Kun Khmer for short as an informal word. The only difference between the Kun Khmer and Muay Thai is the point system and the rules are about the same except that in Muay Thai rules in Thailand leg sweep is awarded as a point but in Kun Khmer, the leg sweep doesn't count as a point so no points. Kun Khmer is a lot more aggressive, aiming to KO an opponent instead of winning by points like in most Muay Thai fights. To this aim Kun Khmer has a much heavier focus on elbows and knees, thus strikes with these body parts have been developed to a much more effective and devastating method than their thai counterpart.

    Your explanation makes a lot of sense. The flow of timeline, the meaning, the function, the fact, the evidence on the wall of temples, the difference, etc. are correct and true. I hope if Thailand can claim and prove if Muay Thai is older than Khmer martial arts. It doesn't make any sense if a younger kingdom could invent her own arts without learning or being taught ( or adopt, change, revise, revolt, etc. ) by an older ancient civilization. Maybe Thailand was born from GOD or with natural enlightment and talents. If so, all scholars will laugh to death. Thailand is fooling the world with popularity and current prosperity status. I hope the world is not that stupid.

    Thai Kingdom was used to be a vassal state of Khmer Empire. During the wars, Khmer Empire used a lot of Thai mercenaries. In order for a vassal state to be strong and even swallow its lord then they need to copy and learn from the enemy including marital art

    Also, I don't know if Pradal Serey and Southeast Asian boxing all descend from Bokator but All Cambodian martial arts masters agree Thai martial arts came from Cambodia.
    There are some different ancient version of Cambodian martial arts. I don't know if they all are variation of each other or the same thing or different martial arts. I think the common knowledge is that Pradal Serey descends from Kbach Kun Boran Khmer much like Muay Thai descends from Muay Boran. Kbach Kun Boran is the nonsport version of Pradal Serey plus the short staff, long staff and sword. But Kbach Kun Boran just means "Ancient Martial Arts" so its possibly an abbreviated version of Bokator. There is also Yuthakun Khom which was practiced by Ancient Cambodia's Old Knights. It uses a lot of weapons. Its practice by MMA fighter Chan Rothana and his father who is the Master.

    • @Katcom111
      @Katcom111 3 года назад +1

      You are about right. I always think Khmer traditional wrestling is the main foundation since it also have the dance then Bokator and then Yuthakun then Pradal Serey.

    It’s very bad etiquette and PR to speak about another martial arts. Just promote Bokator but do not speak about Muay Thai. That is basically starting a war. There’s a famous American quote, “Keep my name out your mouth.”
    Promote positivity. Discrediting another martial art especially from a neighboring country will only end bad.
