Grab yourself a beverage and some popcorn as today on Connecting's "The Unscripted Podcast ", we have with us J&K's shining Wushu Champ Mr. Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh. Having bagged a number of medals at both national and international Wushu championships, recently a Gold in Russia also, Bhanu Pratap Singh is one of the recognized Wushu stars representing J-K and India as a whole.
"We have gone thrice to Russia earlier and this time we again planned to visit there to watch snowfall and for the championship also. Our first Dronacharya awardee from J-K is our Guru Mr Kuldeep Handoo and it's in itself a history. Our first Asian Games medal came through 'Wushu', this discipline of sports has won us medals for the first time in Asian Games. I have traveled to 28-29 countries till now, it's not only about being a globe trotter and making full use of passport capacity but to represent India on the world stage. People might have seen us on social media thinking we're having a gala time. But we are stressed when we go to championships because there is participation from UTs, states, of the army, and so on. I swear to God when we visited Russia, we didn't get time to roam there", Bhanu, the Wushu champ shared.
In 2018, after winning the Bronze medal in18th Asian Games in the discipline of Wushu, held at Jakarta, the Wushu Player Surya Bhanu Partap Singh was felicitated by the Ex-Governor of J- K, Satya Pal Malik in a function held at Raj Bhawan Srinagar with Rs 10 lakh cash prize while his Coach, Kuldeep Handoo was also awarded cash prize 2 lakh for their outstanding performances in Asian Games.
That time the Governor also declared that the Wushu star would be appointed as DySP while his coach, Inspector Kuldeep Handoo will also be awarded for his achievement and was also be promoted from the post of Inspector to DySP in J&K. But that promise is yet to be fulfilled by the govt.
