OH GOD...I REALLY LOVE YOU AND NANCY'S VIDEOS. I LIKE HOW YOU SHOW FROM PLANTING TO HARVEST TIME IN ONE VIDEO. THE PROGRESSION OF THE PLANT OVER TIME MAKES A 20 MINuTE VIDEO WORTH WHILE! AND I LOVE NANCY'S COOKING VIDEOS ALSO! THANKS SO MUCH GUYS! OH YEAH AND I LOVE YOUR CLOSING TOO...BY HIS HANDS WE ARE FED....
She plans to do a video on the soup as soon as I get the garden complex up and running and grow her some. It’s a really good soup. I’m looking forward to eating some❤️
That is an amazing looking radish! I’ve never seen anything like that before Hollis. Thank you for all your interesting videos. You make it a pleasure to learn.
Thank you I harvested my very own bora bora king radish today. I was inspired by your video and I’m very happy I grew this radish variety. Mine was not as big but it’s okay still very tasty. Thank you for the videos! I love all of them.
Hey Hollis and Nancy! I asked so many questions in the other vid that probably answers all of them if I just read the comments & other videos. What an amazing channel! So much more info than I had ever dreamed of. Bless you and the beautiful life you have and sharing it with us a long the way.
Oh, but it is the symbol of evil (Satanism and Witchcraft). let's not become bait to it... sorry if I crossed the line, May God be with you and keep you ,
I was in Manassas Virginia up to this past Thursday and it was super cold....I was freezing...lol! Those daikon radish are huge, and look absolutely delicious 😊
Hollis and Nancy,Found your video's earlier this month. I have watched everyone up to now. I too have garden beds made of 3 x 12 boards 20 ft. long, (4 of them at the present, but will be putting in a few more). You have shown me so many tips that I will incorporate starting next year. Love all of the templates and your "Super Duper Seed Dropper is a very neat idea. Also, so many different types of you have grown is awesome. I will now try some of these to see what they are like. I will soon begin on the cooking video's, so that we can try something different. I live in south Louisiana, so maybe we can incorporate some of these veggies in the "Cajun" cooking. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing your knowledge with us all.God bless,Robbie
+Robert McMeel So glad you subscribed and like our channel!! We will be doing plenty more gardening videos and Nancy has loads of cooking videos for you. The Cajun style should fit well with many of the things we cook. Share some pix of your garden on our Facebook Page, would love to see them👍
+Travis Roark Thank you so much for watching. Yes!! I am always excited when a young person shows interest in gardening. I give them as much attention as they want/need❤️❤️
Growing season is over here. We are preparing for what the farmers almanac says will be a long cold winter here. I'm putting up plastic sheeting and foam trim this weekend to insulate my windows. I'm planning for next spring already.
+Julia Bradley We are drawing to the end here too. I will Winterize the garden at the end of this month and begin planning/prepping for spring. Weather was tough on our garden this year.
+Isabel Dowdy Thank you Isabel! It is a very mild Daikon. I cooked some in the crockpot with a little roast and they were awesome!! Actually sweet when cooked. These guys are very versatile in our meals.👍
I've been growing a straight up white daikon for a few years. I really never realized that there's so many different varieties. Thanks for showing this, I'm excited to learn this! I usually use mine in salads raw, but even in fruit salads sometimes.
+MrChipGardener Nancy shreds them up raw in a salad. I really like the taste. Check out Baker Creek Seeds, they have a large selection of beautiful daikons and radishes also www.kitazawseed.com
Those are HUGE radish! Goodness, one would be plenty here so this would be an amazing crop. Do these ferment well do ya know? Thanks for all you do. So happy to be a long time member of your RUclips family. You're a true blessing. Love and hugs! ~Lisa 💞💞💞💞
+Lisa Booker Nancy ferments them in a cubed Kimchi. She has a video on the channel on how to do it. This is my favorite daikon. It's good raw in salads and great in soup. Sometimes I cook it in the crockpot with a porky roast😇
I so enjoy watching your video's your both so lovely and what a gorgeous garden. As I am Vegetarian and working towards being Vegan. Your garden video's certainly do encourage good Health.
I love your seed pipe. I have RA but love my garden and am always looking for easy tricks. My husband is a plumber so I'm sure I can get some pipe cut really easily
+Michele Morgan Thank you so much!! We are very thankful to have a garden and homegrown vegetables. Such a blessing. Thanks for watching, have a peaceful weekend👍
+Elaine Matthews They should do well for you up there Elaine. Nancy loves the beautiful different colors available with Daikons. Look forward to seeing your garden and your Chef skills next year😍
Hey friends, I enjoy the video, thanks for sharing. The Purple Bora King redish looks very tasty. Unfortunately I do not get any seeds here in Germany. Bless you.
I like your super dooper seed dropper, makes sense. Is your soil in your garden sandy? It reminds me of river sand . My Grandfather had a garden located above the main river flow many years ago. Just told my husband that I want a garden like yours, or simular. So Good.
Great, informative video! I’m have a problem with mine - the germinate good, then I’ll move them to my raised bed. When I come home after work they are all wilted and the whole lot end up failing. Is direct sun too much or do they need heavy watering? I can’t seem to get mine to grow :(
I noted that you seemed to be saving the greens. Does Nancy use them in the soup, also? Or, does she use them otherwise. Thanks for all we learn from you.
Victoria Bishop Saute some onions in olive oil, or in bacon grease, whatever you got, add clean washed and shopped greens, in this case the radish tops, let steem just a little while, turning it once or twice. Turn it off, and leave a lid on the pan for about 5 minutes. It will finish cooking gently in it's own heat. Serve with white rice, or on toast, or in warm tortillas. When you prepare this you can also add garlic and chopped hot peppers to your liking. We use the same recipe for dandylion greens, for plantain leaves, and other kinds of green leaves we grow or forage. Always delicious.☺😊😀😁😀😊☺
“ you don’t have to wait long for good eating” I love that quote. Thank you for the tips. What did you amend the soil with? How long does it take the seeds to start sprouting? Do I thin them out once they emerge? I just planted some a few days ago. I can’t wait southern CA zone 10a.
Thanks for watching Cynthia❤️. I did not have to thin these out because I direct sowed them at 12” spacing. I didn’t have to amend the soil. These are grown the same as Radishes, no fertilizer required.
Love the "Super duper seed dropper", lol. With age comes wisdom, they say. Now you just need a "super duper hole collapser" after you drop the seeds in.
I'm growing a few Rambo radishes and they have nice healthy leaves but are not bulbing up. I'm getting lots of tiny roots but the taproots are skinny like carrots. Is there any way to fix that? I have never heard of Purple Bora King and I thought Daikon were solid white and thin like carrots. The leaves on yours look different from my Rambo radishes. On mine the leaves are prickly with little hairs. It doesn't look like yours have that. Are your leaves smooth or do they also have hairs on them that I just can't see?
you can thingamajigig rig using one of those reachers to help clasps the holes due to your bad back. the reachers are for disabled people. I don't know the exact name of it.
Just stumbled upon your videos and have been watching all night... So much fun to see all these wonderful veggies, I would have loved being able to have a small version of your garden, especially if our climate had been better, with longer summers (🇳🇴)... ☺️ That purple daikon is sooo beautiful! I read somewhere that they are real yummy pickled too, would be a great way to enjoy it all year round! Imagine it in a sweet and sour (apple cider vinegar&maple syrup) - and a bit spicy - brine (like for Connie's Rawsome Kitchen's bread & butter pickles - they're a must try too, check her channel here on YT!)... Om nom nom! ☺️ I keep forgetting to ask about daikons at my local Asian market, must remember, would love to try pickling those purple beauties! Does your cutie terrier love veggies from the garden too? I am more or less vegan, so my dog never gets any animal meat, just what is in her kibble, but she is nuts for some veggies. Her ultimate favorite is Brussel Sprouts, they have to be cut in 4-6 pieces and pan fried though, with a little oil, until brown/caramelized, so the flavor transforms to the nutty delicacy it really is! She also loves it is I through in a handful of cut up spinach and let that cook until done too, then mix it all well with her kibble. I vary between things she likes, as she gets so tired of eating the same (how they tell us to feed dogs, but it helps having a varying "side" for her, I think - why shouldn't they enjoy food as we do?). BTW, I am a bit OCD on some things too, one being spelling. Not even just in my own language, LOL! You have a little typo, so you don't have a Super Duper Seed Dropper, as you keep telling us, you have a "Droper" (take it from a foreigner, it ought to be "DroPPer" 😂, just like the dropper on a medicine bottle! ☺️)! Sorry, this got real long... Thanks a lot for great videos and God bless to all three of you! 💞
+s Buzz They are much much milder than French breakfast. Yes, diamond grown in the fall are milder than the ones grown in the spring. I recommend planting them in the fall
Where do you get your seeds at for these I would love to grow them I was recently diagnosed with a compromised immune disorder so I would like to go all natural foods and you guys are an inspiration to me
Do you make Kimchi out of these? Still trying to find your board you make for the gardens that makes multiple seed holes at the same time. does she have a film on how to make kimchi?
+Richard Feldman Yes, Nancy is going to do a video on that next Saturday. It should be released in the next few weeks. She made some last weekend and I LOVED IT!!!
What site do you order you your foreign seeds from please. Or rather all the seed company's you use. Thank you for the great video! Show how she makes the soup ! God Bless
I love your string method. I am guessing that is a piece of 3/4 PVC and you had to get it cut? What are the strings attached to? Where do you get these seeds? I got the Tatsoi. When should I plant that one? When are you planting these? The electric fence to prevent squirrels is really livin' high on the hog:)
+Portia Holliday Thanks for watching my friend. Let me answer you questions in the order you asked them: 1) 1" PVC cut to suit my height 2) bricks 3) www.kitazawseed.com 4) plant in early Spring or early Fall 5) I planted the seeds in this video on September 4th
Just wrap the brick with the string. I'll watch the link. Thank You and I'm sure Nancy made a wonderful soup. This is my first year to eat purple top turnips. I boiled it from root to shoot, but I'm now removing the tap root bc it is too fibrous. I boil them for an hour. I'm off to watch the link. That's a good website for seeds and they've been in business since 1917,Wow!
+Portia Holliday Yes, simply tie the string to the bricks. I usually don't eat the stems on the purple tops but the red turnips are fine. Baker Creek Seed Company is another good supplier for your seed needs👍
Would you possibly share the website where you aquired the seeds from Korea from? And/or any of your specialty seeds or International types of seeds ! Thank You. ~ God Bless Jessica P
Hey Hollis, trying to find a radish that is similar in flavor to either a turnip or a kohlrabi. I'd like to grow turnips but don't care for their usual spicy flavor. Can you describe these purples a little more say compared to typical radish, turnip, or other? Appreciate it. Brent
+C3 Voyage The Purple Bora King variety is very mild. When cooked they are extremely mild, no spicy taste at all, almost sweet. Nancy even shreds them up as a salad. I have stomach ulcers and these don't bother me at all👍
+angela sheppard Yes Angela, we are so excited!! I was born and raised in Jacksonville. All my family still lives there. Me and Nancy want to move very near Jacksonville so we will be close to kids and grandkids. Planning to move at end of the summer.
+Paul Taylor I water enough to keep the soil moist. During the fall when these are growing I only water once per week to suit weather conditions and my soil conditions in my area
+nancy haywood Over the years I have added several bales of dry peat and many bags of Black Kow. I have no idea exactly how many. I did a little each year
well, it's certainly a marvelous garden spot. i'd love to have one like that. my daddy had a marvelous garden spot, he added a lot of brown leaves over the years.
+nancy haywood Yes sweetie, I recognized your name as one of our subscribers. So sorry about your back!! I threw mine out 3 weeks ago, it is still not a hundred percent but much better. Take it easy on your back and let it heal. Thank you for being a part of our RUclips family ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I can’t seem to get mine to grow :(
You need to harden them off for a week before transplanting into the earth bed

Yes, I will have to explore beyond Johnny's:) What kind of string do you get?
+Portia Holliday
It is nylon construction string. It is just what I had on hand
The pipe is genius

Hey Hollis, trying to find a radish that is similar in flavor to either a turnip or a kohlrabi. I'd like to grow turnips but don't care for their usual spicy flavor. Can you describe these purples a little more say compared to typical radish, turnip, or other? Appreciate it.

The Purple Bora King variety is very mild. When cooked they are extremely mild, no spicy taste at all, almost sweet. Nancy even shreds them up as a salad. I have stomach ulcers and these don't bother me at all👍
Thanks brother.

Do you have to water them everyday?
+Paul Taylor
I water enough to keep the soil moist. During the fall when these are growing I only water once per week to suit weather conditions and my soil conditions in my area

Over the years I have added several bales of dry peat and many bags of Black Kow. I have no idea exactly how many. I did a little each year
well, it's certainly a marvelous garden spot. i'd love to have one like that. my daddy had a marvelous garden spot, he added a lot of brown leaves over the years.
