When Aeris was three weeks old we found out she has a severe to profound bilateral sensorineural hearing loss (in both ears) .
Although initially devastated that our newborn baby girl couldn't hear the world around her, at 6 weeks old she was fitted with her very first pair of hearing aids and we were thrilled when she could hear Mummy for the first time.
This blesses your heart to see a miracle like this!

I can never understand how anyone can dislike a video of a baby hearing for the first time. This baby was fascinated by the sensation of hearing although he doesn't understand it yet.

The “dislikes” are from the deaf community. With more hearing children, they feel they will lose their culture. In other words, they don’t want deaf children to have aids or cochlear implants. It’s sick. I’m a Speech Pathologist and I worked with deaf kids for three years.

Oh, that is so beautiful to watch. Her eyes light up, and she gets really quiet. She first turns to look at her mother. Then hears the audiologist’s voice, and is fascinated. So special.

Yes deafness is uncomfortable and they cry because of that. Their face also changes due to pressure they imply to understand something. God please be kind and take care of your children, this pain is unbearable to everyone in the world. Thanks to the doctors now it should reach all children of the world

This is very amazing, I just saw that even babies truly has senses. And is already capable to compare things. It seemed that she has her mind already functioning and is really able to process things. The way she moved her eyes, the way she tilts her head and the facial expressions proves that human brain really starts working even in young ones. Very amazing.

I'm so happy for this precious baby! Awesome parents ! Way to go! I was 80 percent deaf until I was a teenager. My advice is to gradually introduce sound to your baby. I found being able to hear frightening and difficult to interpret. Over time I learned what all the new sounds meant. I feel so lucky to be able to hear. It may take time but this is a fantastic gift! Congratulations little one!

That was magical, my grandson is going through the same thing, beleive me that was very pleasing to see.

Victoria Tampling hi ! Thanks for your reply , my grandsons hearing has somewhat improved so for the time being he will carry on with his hearing aid .
The doctors said they may consider an inner ear implant in the future .
We live in Cyprus but grandson lives in London we speak and see each other almost every day .
We hope to visit London again as soon as this pandemic is over .❤️
How beautiful to see the realization dawning in the face of this lovely baby. Pretty calm though, very alert, and present. How touching for both mother and baby, and father possibly present also? to connect through the sound of voice. This makes me realize how hearing isn't a sense taken for granted. It's very close connected to emotions, and how we "feel" other people, isn't it?
