Hannah, I‘d suggest to think about the communities you want to reach. And I don‘t mean youtube communities. This is your field of expertise, but from my point of view as a viewer, I see someone’s youtube channel as a store, and not a specific aisle. Hannah - I just love love LOVE your professionalism! Especially that you want to get training for talks and workshops. I'm sure your talks are on a high level already but it's so so important in this case to be professionally taught as there is so much you can unknowingly do wrong when teaching young people. I want more Hannah content, so I would subscribe to anything she puts out. But I personally don't feel a need for the content to be split across different places. I don't mind either way, but I find it easier to just have one channel.
I love your goals. I also love what you've accomplished this year. Although I only found you recently, clearly you did not start on this path recently at all. You've put in the time, the work and the planning and I'm really happy to see this stage you are at. I think a second channel will be a good organizational device for you in terms of the way you've designated different types of content, and people like me will probably just be subscribed to both so we don't miss out. Congratulations on what you've accomplished! Wow! I wish you the best of luck as you move forward. I fully intend to enjoy following along with you as you go.
I love this video concept as it is so useful and relatable for us all. We should always be making goals and reflecting on everything. I think it’s amazing to include forms of education in a plan because it’s so so important to always be learning and growing. I would definitely watch both channels if that was a thing because I love all of your content!
Hannah Witton me too! I work with children so my plan for 2020 is attend some CPD courses and do a university short course in sign language. It’s great your working on yourself to help others Hannah go you!
Your energy and motivation is very inspiring. I've been going through a massive slump over the last month or two and am only just starting to get back into things. Surrounding myself with motivated and passionate people is key :) Also and huge Yes on a second channel!
I like the idea of mid year goals...to me, it’s a new start because it’s the beginnings of the new academic year. As for my goals...I just want to revamp my sleep schedule and reorganize my days to be more productive. :) I love eclectic channels. When I first started RUclips last year, I was researching how to grow a channel, and so many of these said that you don’t want to diversify too much. But I personally subscribe to channels because I like the person, and I like seeing all the different things that are important to them.
I don’t know if you need to split your content, I watch this channel because I like all the different things. I encourage you to take the time you want to develop the content you want! Hope that helps but do what’s best for you!
This video exhausts me! You're doing so much! I need some of your organization and productivity power. My literal only goal right now is to finish and defend my PhD prospectus so I can finally move on to writing my dissertation.
That’s enough! If you can just get through the PhD process (and care for your basic physical and emotional needs), you’re doing amazing! Love, Dr. Case
@@catherinecase1142 thanks for the encouragement! Have to admit I sometimes let those needs slip, but they are going to the top of my priority list when this thing is hopefully defended in a couple weeks.
also this is a good reminder for me to do my own mid-year review :p at the beginning of the year my goal was to write a novel which i had started in 2018 but now my goals have somewhat shifted as i'm working on starting a youtube channel and moved to a new place so i def need to reflect and provide that direction for myself :) awesome to hear that you accomplished all of your goals already!! definitely not underachieving.
Don’t think splitting the channel would be a good idea, it tends to just divide the audience even for very successful channels I personally love how multiple and diverse this channel is! However if you feel like it would be a great choice/opportunity for you, go for it of course! We’ll always support you no matter what xx 🧡
Hey Hannah, I completed the survey and I just wanted to point out that for the last question, when you ask if I would sign up to the newsletter, you should add something like "I'm already signed up" as a choice, because I put "yes, I would" but I am in fact already signed up ;)
I quite like the idea of a second channel to be honest! Although I'm not sure it would help with the RUclips Hamster Wheel situation. Definitely could work and if you do it, I would 100% be subscribed! Also loving the idea that you want to start doing talks in Universities and Schools and such, I think that not just sex related talks but productivity would work well in those settings- ESPECIALLY at the beginning of the academic year, that would be invaluable for Freshers just getting into more independent learning and mature students returning to education! My only goals this year were to get onto my university course (tick!) and get my driving licence (also tick!). I think a Goal Update would be a great idea for me right about now haha
Splitting them does allow more focus or depth on each without losing people here who aren't into each topic as much. Finding niche(s) and becoming more expert in (not too large a set of) each is valuable.
With the functionality of playlists, I don't 100% see the value of creating a second channel. However, it's your vision and I would certainly watch a second channel if you split your content to invest more in your sex and relationships videos. Have you considered swapping the idea though, and leaving the lifestyle/vlog/everything else videos here under Hannah Witton and creating a second channel specifically focused on sex and relationships content? That makes more sense to me, because it allows you to craft the vibe of that channel from the start and lets the Hannah Witton channel continue to evolve as you do.
I have considered that yes but it still makes sense for me to do it this way around. Most people subscribed for sex/relationships content and that's what does best on this channel. The more personal stuff doesn't do as well on this channel so if I only did that here it would mean the channel would eventually "die". Whereas sex stuff would keep it going and personal stuff on a new channel would be just for the people who want that content. This is my thought process anyway.
Only just found out about the pod, downloaded a bunch of eps and excited to give it a go :) I have ticked 4 things off my list of 12 things. I still have hope for...4 more :-P
For being able to do both of your passions, have you thought about consulting for other RUclipsrs, companies/non-profits around social media? Or perhaps working part-time at a non-profit to handle their socials? I am pretty sure social media is one of the places I want to end up career-wise, and these are the kinds of things I lean towards. I'd love to handle the socials for a RUclipsr/online creator or a non-profit (personally would not want to do it for big companies and the like).
I'm not sure there's really much purpose to having a second channel unless your intent is to create more content, and it sounds like your goal is to be churning out a little *less* content. Like a second channel makes sense if you want to make a video or two a week on one topic but also a video or two a week on another topic, or in another style. It makes less sense if you want to be making longer, more involved videos with larger gaps of time between them, because then probably both channels are going to suffer even wider gaps between videos as you go back and forth between them. Usually when I see RUclipsrs with a second channel, the second channel either doesn't get uploads very often or else it is much more casually made so that it doesn't add much to the overall workload. I think leaving everything on one channel makes more sense, where you can be putting up more in-depth videos and then occasionally throwing in a lower effort, more casual one. TLDR: The second channel could work, but definitely give some consideration to how much time you want to be devoting to each channel and whether that time will be enough to amount to something sustainable without also overworking you.
Hi Hannah! Another idea for adding a second channel would be to have it solely focus on that organization/business/social media passion you have. Right now, your channel is so YOU, and I'm worried without the favorites videos, personality tests, etc. that it may become a little less well-rounded and versatile. If you have a channel for you other passion of organization/business/social media, your targeting a whole other market that may not have discovered you yet, AND working on developing that passion in a new project. Always love your videos, and your constant motivation is inspiring
Hi Hannah, What you say about getting some formal education on the subjects you talk about is very interesting. Formal education is usually followed by formal qualifications in most spheres of education. Sex seems to fall in a rather grey area, where lots of people offer advice without formal qualifications to do so. That's not to say the advice isn't sound, but it tends to be an opinion, without any formal endorsement.
id watch anyone you do - even if the topic isn't aimed towards me i enjoy your personality on screen - can't wait to see what the rest of 2019 holds for your channel
I love the idea of a second channel As a supporter of seven years, Hannah and team, what I would say is that please don’t let the YT become bare. I have a very popular YTber in mind and he makes awsome quality videos but around three times a year. And I would not go to his book signings or meet ups as I have done for yours for this reason
I think having 2 channels sounds like a great idea. I don’t currently have notifications on for your channel but I think if you had 2 separate channels the way you described I’d still subscribe to both but have notifications on just for the sex/relationships/disability awareness content!
I'll have to think about goal setting, I have a terrible habit of just going with the flow. Being in a fairly boring desk job I don't often think about professional development either.
My only goal for the year was to not have any unexpected trips to hospital. I've succeeded so far (longest time in almost 5 years!) but now I live alone and autumn/winter is normally when my chronically ill ass likes to screw me over!
Just picking up on one of the points you make, I understand youtube is an algorithm driven platform whereby the demands for output are very high! But I’d much rather have high quality content with trademark humour and spirit than a video all the time anyway :)
With the hamster wheel problem, I'd LOVE to see you do a proper tv (or Netflix or whatever) documentary, or a series. I think you'd be a really good interviewer, whether thats talking about sex or relationships or disability. One of the best things for me about what you create is how you promote other peoples stories (like the roundtable vid), where you ask questions and yet bring your own opinions in so its a proper discussion. Its a very big goal but hey, if you've finished all your 2019 ones already... :D xx
So excited for all this to happen!! In regards to some training about sex eds talks, I'm sure you have already considered access to more closed off communities e.g. religions in which sex ed etc is VERY taboo. Emma Conway (brummymummyof2 on yt) is an ex-RS teacher who specialised in Islam, she could be a good point of access to education for you (if you need one ) about islam , and a stepping stone into understanding how the taboo effects the community. Additionally, Unjaded Jade ( on YT) just completed a three month placement teaching about health and reproductive rights (amongst other things) In Uganda in partnership with the Charity Restless development. Jade is a very ethically conscious creator and I think you guys would get along well and could have a lot to talk about if such a project fits in with your goals. On the topic of Unjaded Jade, she is a 'studytuber' - a new "type" of creator if you will, that makes revision content. The studytube community has a vested interest in access and empowerment of people from disadvantaged backgrounds. For example, Vee ( Miss Varz on YT) is holding an access to competitive universities event (oxbridge and russell group) at the end of the month (www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/empowered-by-vee-miss-varz-tickets-64427381031?ref=eios) . I think it could be possible for you to work in partnership with something like this (for example, helping those who attend find support to minimise the effects of their period on their education, in order to give them the best shot. - or whatever the need may be.) You could also help as a disability/chronic illness "advocate" and speak about that in relation to education if you feel this is something that interests you. I think the content you make is amazing for showing such a spectrum of people and showing all as a form of normal (what ever that means for that person); as well as how differently bodily functions are totally fine. I think it would fit very well with the access content of the studytube community while at the same time signal boosting the normalisation of so many different people (and aspects of our bodies). Hope that all comes across clearly ( and I hope that it comes across as a friendly suggestion. I am worried about making incorrect assumptions about what would suit your interests so forgive me if I'm not quite hitting the nail on the head). XX
I'm the same way about looking to the future and mostly focusing on that. After I went to England for the first time in the spring, it was basically ok where next?
A 2nd channel would be amazing dont get me wrong and i know you said you love being productive and busy all the time but i dont want you to put pressure on yourself and i feel like a 2nd channel would still keep you on the RUclips hamster wheel of churning out content. Take things at your own pace and i love you all the same 💜💜
If a second channel would mean more vlogs from you, I will definitely subscribe! I really enjoyed your weekly vlogs but didn't care about video game playthrough sections (which you obviously couldn't cut because of the sponsorship at the time)
I feel like I am several days late to the party, but I do not think making a second RUclips channel will help you getting off the hamster wheel. One, the dreaded algorithm loves frequent, consistent uploads. High quality content takes high quality time to make which means videos like this help keep your channel in inboxes. If your intent is to be taken more seriously in the sex ed field then you might want to clearly label, identify, and playlist the videos you want in that space vs. "Other videos". I think making a second channel will create two underperforming channels which, if done prematurely, may create the opposite problem (trying to both make sure your current channel's videos end up in sub boxes and also your new channels acquires eyeballs at a reasonable rate means an increase of work in the beginning that could be a good investment longterm but it isn't guaranteed). I would recommend getting a consult from an expert in the RUclips space that can take a look at your analytics and see what would be the best option for you. I am not an expert but I have seen more than one YTer go through the two (or more) channel split then go back because the upkeep became too much and it was just more efficient to keep their face in one place rather than two.
Relationships and Sex Education will be compulsory in all schools from September 2020 and schools need help preparing. So far there has been no funding from government to support them either in funding staffing, staff training or resources. I know you’re in the public education space but young people consistently cite school as a preferred and trusted source of information about sex and relationships so if you really want to make a difference in sex ed I would recommend exploring how you could influence and help schools. X
Great video. Is a masters still on the table? Also I would encourage not having a second channel. all the things you listed to be on the other are things that fit in well on this channel, they are why you started this channel to begin with. Variety is a strength in a creator's channel.
From what I’ve seen, two channels become different. The second usually becomes vlogs, and the content creator becomes very bogged down in doing vlogs, and the original channel becomes slightly neglected and less fun. I understand your dilemma in splitting the content, but all of that content is part of you and makes you you!
Hannah you should try and have a chat with Grace Beverley! (Gracefituk). She is totally nailing that business + passion concept you were talking about and you two remind me of each other a lot in terms of being business minded and educational.
If you do go to two channels, I think your instincts are good. One channel for the taboo stuff, and one for non-taboo stuff. Or to put it in "I need to pay rent AND eat this week" language, one channel for demonetized subjects, one for non-demonetized (which I suppose would just be monetized?) subjects.
You should look up Brook! They do really good trainings about sex & relationships education for young people including workshops and resources you can use - I’ve done a few trainings with them and they’re great!
I like the idea of a second channel but i think it would be a great opportunity for you to focus on expanding to other hosts like you mentioned a while back. I think a second channel using the "personal channel" business model would probably add to the hamster wheel of youtube for you. If you expanded into a collaborative channel that focused on other topics youre interested in that could be super neat.
i think you could definitely have two different veins of content - like, productivity/identity and sex education specifically - without making a second channel. Maybe uploading, like, one every other week and just dividing them into different playlists is much more convenient as a viewer. Having a clear delineation between the two series' and treating it like two seperate channels without actually making one. Well done on hitting so many of your goals so far!
I feel like a second channel would split the viewership, I personally am subscribed to YOU as a content creator, as well as the content you create. Having the educating content in the same place as your personal stuff creates a nice umbrella you can pick up whenever

daisyjsore I used to be indecisive but now I’m not so sure 🤣🤣🤣😁
you can do it!!
Love the idea of two channels. And training is always good, I love learning. Very glad I found your channel.
I want more Hannah content, so I would subscribe to anything she puts out. But I personally don't feel a need for the content to be split across different places. I don't mind either way, but I find it easier to just have one channel.
OMG! Finding out you have a podcast made my week! Finding out it's on Spotify made my month!
Congratulations to you and Dan! So happy for the two of you
Think you might need to go SMART with these goals Hannah (Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Time based)
hahaha good point indeed!! love a good SMART goal!
Congratulations on your engagement!!!!
Yay an update video! I’m really loving update videos right now, idk I think it’s just the nerdy planner inside me coming out 😂
MY PEOPLE
Haha planning is actually the best 😍
I love this video concept as it is so useful and relatable for us all. We should always be making goals and reflecting on everything. I think it’s amazing to include forms of education in a plan because it’s so so important to always be learning and growing. I would definitely watch both channels if that was a thing because I love all of your content!
yesssss I always add a line for personal/professional development in my plans!
Surrounding myself with motivated and passionate people is key :)
Also and huge Yes on a second channel!
I like the idea of mid year goals...to me, it’s a new start because it’s the beginnings of the new academic year. As for my goals...I just want to revamp my sleep schedule and reorganize my days to be more productive. :)
I love eclectic channels.
I am still LOVING the editing by the way!
I think one channel works better as the heavy and light balance each other out.
This video exhausts me! You're doing so much! I need some of your organization and productivity power. My literal only goal right now is to finish and defend my PhD prospectus so I can finally move on to writing my dissertation.
omg exciting!!
Don’t think splitting the channel would be a good idea, it tends to just divide the audience even for very successful channels
I personally love how multiple and diverse this channel is!
I love the idea of you having two channels! It sounds brilliant, i would watch and subscribe to both!!!!!
Splitting them does allow more focus or depth on each without losing people here who aren't into each topic as much. Finding niche(s) and becoming more expert in (not too large a set of) each is valuable.
You're an amazing producer, Hannah!! I just filled the survey :) love from Argentina!!
Only just found out about the pod, downloaded a bunch of eps and excited to give it a go :)
I have ticked 4 things off my list of 12 things. I still have hope for...4 more :-P
I would subscribe to the second channel but I do feel like it's better this way, having various different topics in the same channel
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!! YES TO SECOND RUclips CHANNEL!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes to a second channel!
This video is exactly what I needed!! ❤️
You have 2 books published remember that! Celebrate your achievements and refocus! Xx
LOVE the second channel idea!!
I love the idea of a second channel
As a supporter of seven years, Hannah and team, what I would say is that please don’t let the YT become bare.
2 channels sounds great! I feel like it will give your channel more professionality
You were great on Matt and Tom's Park Bench.
I love how i managed to procrastinate by watching videos about productivity, go me 🤣I am buzzing for the cactus top/dress tho.
love you Hannah🥰
hi hannah, could you do a video about how you built your channel in terms of following, subscribers etc.. thanks in advance!
I will 2nd that request 😉
I love your top!
i really like the second channel idea!
I'll have to think about goal setting, I have a terrible habit of just going with the flow. Being in a fairly boring desk job I don't often think about professional development either.
Hannah With-tons of projects.
My only goal for the year was to not have any unexpected trips to hospital. I've succeeded so far (longest time in almost 5 years!) but now I live alone and autumn/winter is normally when my chronically ill ass likes to screw me over!
same!! *fingers crossed*
Your dress!!! where is it from?
Do you still want to do the masters you've mentioned a few times?
With the survey question- yes I would sub to a second channel, but I’d prefer it to all stay on one channel
Just picking up on one of the points you make, I understand youtube is an algorithm driven platform whereby the demands for output are very high! But I’d much rather have high quality content with trademark humour and spirit than a video all the time anyway :)
that might sound a bit silly but i've been loving your eyebrows recently haha
Thinking about your last goal - have you tried/looked at Passion Planner?
With the hamster wheel problem, I'd LOVE to see you do a proper tv (or Netflix or whatever) documentary, or a series. I think you'd be a really good interviewer, whether thats talking about sex or relationships or disability. One of the best things for me about what you create is how you promote other peoples stories (like the roundtable vid), where you ask questions and yet bring your own opinions in so its a proper discussion. Its a very big goal but hey, if you've finished all your 2019 ones already... :D xx
I’m so curious to know about what you find with the survey those were good questions :3
XX
I prefer one channel; never understood the sense of two channels🤷🏼♀️ Can I find your podcast on spotify?
I'm the same way about looking to the future and mostly focusing on that. After I went to England for the first time in the spring, it was basically ok where next?
A 2nd channel would be amazing dont get me wrong and i know you said you love being productive and busy all the time but i dont want you to put pressure on yourself and i feel like a 2nd channel would still keep you on the RUclips hamster wheel of churning out content. Take things at your own pace and i love you all the same 💜💜
Paused to fill out the survey.
Get to question 13.
How the heck do I decide on one favourite youtuber?!?!?!?!
Second channel yes Yes YES!!!!
Love me a survey
From what I’ve seen, two channels become different. The second usually becomes vlogs, and the content creator becomes very bogged down in doing vlogs, and the original channel becomes slightly neglected and less fun. I understand your dilemma in splitting the content, but all of that content is part of you and makes you you!
Hannah you should try and have a chat with Grace Beverley! (Gracefituk). She is totally nailing that business + passion concept you were talking about and you two remind me of each other a lot in terms of being business minded and educational.
I did that survey and it was so thorough lol
If you do go to two channels, I think your instincts are good. One channel for the taboo stuff, and one for non-taboo stuff. Or to put it in "I need to pay rent AND eat this week" language, one channel for demonetized subjects, one for non-demonetized (which I suppose would just be monetized?) subjects.
haha yup nailed it!!
Survey done.
I just watched one of your older videos where you talked about wanting to do a Masters. Is this something you're still thinking of doing? :)
