Excellent vocal Fagan is very difficult to emulate but you have to get the guitar solo 🎸 spot on simply because it’s iconic like the Sax solo in Jungleland!!!!
Mmmmm , thanks for your appreciation…but sorry to disappoint you : you’ll never get the exact solos from us , because we simply don’t want to 😀. Steely Dan themselves on stage play different solos , even if we all agree that the original ones are iconic . What we try to do is , most of the times , start with a lick or two from the original solos , or in the same mood , and then ….well , that’s the essence of live solos, improvise it our way .
I have seen Steely Dan 6 times and I understand your point but there are certain SD songs where certain solos make the song the guitar solo in MOSD the sax rift in Dirty Work it’s signature if you try to improvise then it’s just a Steely Dan Cover; The vocals and everything else were spot on however
@@robertbyington7715 ok I admit I might be a little of bad faith on that point , because for instance I play the piano solo note for note ( or at least I try 😀) when we do « Fire in the hole » …as long as there are passionate debates about SD’s music , the world is not totally F….ed up ,, and it’s fine for us !
@@DrWuplaysSteelyDan-en6tp Listen you guys are amazing didn’t mean for that to sound overly critical but those guys and the studio musicians they played with Micheal Mc Donald David Sandborn et al are damn near impossible to emulate because they were iconic to start with. I’m sure you have heard the joke why don’t people sing Michael Mc Donald songs answer because they can’t. Getting the vocals as good as you guys do is something 95 percent of the people who try to recapture SD don’t come close too so it was great to listen too and I hope you do more SD tunes soon.
Well done. Now the things I liked was the BV, mix, brass, bass, drums. To make this stellar would be to play the guitar solo parts the same as original. There was a bit too much distortion on lead as well. Lead vocal was better on second half. A perfect example is Leonid & Friends version. Yes I know they played in a studio but they do play and sound the same live. André
Respectfully I'd say you're splitting hairs. Not saying you're wrong with your comment necessarily, but this is wonderful. I've been a Dan Fan for 50 years as well as a traveling musician, producer and recording studio owner. You're allowed to do "you" when you cover a Dan song. Even SD's guitar players of late do their own version of the iconic solos and lead parts and BTW... you have good ears SoundsAlive1. ;-)
Thanks for that answer TomTom9773 ! We couldn’t agree more , but obviously it would have been suspicious if we wrote that ourselves .🤣. But , @Soundalive1, be assured we’re fine with all critics ! We don’t intend to play the solos or copy the vocal parts note for note , but we try to catch a global “perfume” or “essence” of them …as for the vocals , of course it could have been better , it’s totally live as you noticed it, and with relatively poor miking and lots of instruments in the vocal mikes , not much editing or tuning was possible ….and as It was our fistt gig in our new line-up with the brass section , 6 years ago , I am pretty confident we ‘ve all improved since then! And we love Leonid & friends BTW !
You’re right! This is absolutely outrageous! But as you probably noticed , it was 6 years ago, and since then we forced our singer to improve his Spanish accent , with a revolutionary Dan-esque method named “Eat til you speak”, consisting in stuffing him With enchiladas and Tortas ahocadas every morning , stopping when he begins to pronounce like a real “Tapatio” should …well, it kind of worked….but he’s quite fatter now.
Really makes me wonder! I mean they got “oleander”, right? To me, Steely Dan just loved really “chewy “ words, multi-syllable words that they wrapped around the notes so effortlessly. One of my favorite things in their fantastic music. Maybe “Guadalajara “ just didn’t click for Dr. Wu? Brilliant even without it!
The quintessential "vegas/piano bar singer," but, I loved this! Well done...🙂
STILL STUNNING!!!😎
That piano player is incredibe. Would have even liked to hear an entire version of Maxine. This band is great.
For all you young people out there, these are REAL musicians, in case you didn't know
Thanks...I'm 54!!😂
Well , that makes two of us 😀(that said , not all of us in the band are 54 😂)
Spectacular rendition of Maxine!
EXCELLENT
I don't know Steely Dan. Never heard of this song until I stumbled over Leonid & Friends. Your version has so much power. I love it. Really great!
Check out Stanley Dee
Stunning! The singer sounds AND even looks like Donald Fagen!
Without the fangs!!!
Wonderful! Especially like that the guitar player isn’t playing a note for note transcription of Jeff Baxter’s original solo, but doing his own thing!
That was freak'n amazing! Pure Perfection!
Anyone that covers the likes of Walter Becker and Donald Fagen must have great taste!!
Tasty. I hope to get somewhere close to those keyboard chops in the next 10 years.
Stay focused on your goals, and you're already there. Enjoy
STUNNING!.....
Good tribute band like the brass section
Bravo!

Yep...gotta get that original gtr solo. I was waiting for it. Like you said, it's iconic.

Very good.
With Authority!
Wow 👌
Tight
Rox Brothers do this guitar amazing but this is great piano wise

LEONID & FRIENDS ARE THE BEST!

Sound like sting.
Better guitar parts than Skunk Baxter's jerkiness!
um... no,
Baxter's work on this song is sublime, I don't mind the guitarist here doing his own thing here but Baxter's work is incredible
@@Andrew_M_Ward It is so jerky and disjointed that it is irritating (to me).

Why doesn’t he say Guadalajara.?

Yeah why not ?
