I had such a terrible Easter this 04/12/20. I am quarantined, out of work, and overslept, missing the online church service. The weather is rainy and overcast. None of my relatives want to leave their house or have a celebration due to the risk of getting sick. But then I listened to this song and felt the Holy Spirit. My mood is lifted and now I can say Happy Easter!

My favorite part of the Bible is Numbers 31, where God commands the Israelites to attack Midian and kill
all the men, all the married women and all the male children but to keep

soldiers. The reason offered for that barbarism? Two Midianite women had
allegedly “tempted” two Israelite men to worship other gods.

I prefer the traditional version w the pipe organ as well, but I wouldn't be so unkind as to say this is horrible. I just won't post it on my fb wall, will post the other. I didn't really dig the shoulders jumping up and down.
There are simply times when the traditional is better. Gives me that glow of childhood memories of singing, hearing that hymn in church.

Christ died only once and resurrected over 2000 years ago. He is alive today . Hence saying He rose today is not biblical. Easter is to commemorate Jesus death and resurrection over 2000 years ago. Today He is alive and seated on the right hand of the Almighty. For Christ to rise every year on Easter day He would have to die every year on Good Friday! Absolutely non biblical!
You are what I would call a "black and whiter" - you take every single word LITERALLY. 99.99% of the human race are able to comprehend that, indeed, Jesus did not rise TODAY but rather we are CELEBRATING his resurrection today, as Christians have done for centuries on Easter Sunday.
The hymn "Christ the Lord Is Risen Today" was written in the 18th century by Charles Wesley. Like most people, he understood that Easter is a commemoration of Christ's resurrection, not a claim that it's literally happening each year. The "today" lyric poetically links the historical event to our present celebration and the hymn's expression of joy.
So congratulations on grasping that Jesus didn't literally rise from the dead again this morning. You're very clever. The rest of us will keep enjoying the hymn as a festive tribute to this cornerstone of our faith, secure in the knowledge that poetic language isn't meant to be woodenly literal. Happy Easter!
