    Thank you for this. You are very kind hearted and inclusive which goes a long way for everyone. I am an educator specializing in Indigenous studies as a white woman in Alberta, Canada. This all resonates with me and also validates I am doing what I am supposed to be doing. Sometimes I feel defeated as a non-Indigenous person trying to educate and help others. So thank you for making me feel I am on the right path.

    I believe acknowledging the truth isn't quite enough, yes it's part of the process toward Truth and reconciliation, but people have to accept it as truth.
    Reconciliation should be the end of Suffering for all indigenous..
    I'm going to be honest, I have difficulties with anger when it comes to the residential schools, colonisation, the deliberate spread of small pox, and the banning of our religion philosophies and beliefs of my forefathers.
    When I think of the suffering ALL indigenous peoples endured, I empathize, and that's when the hurt n anger starts to manifest.
    I would love to know how to move away from that anger, because it really does hold me back from the peace and harmony that I'm wanting in life..

      Adam, thank you so much for your honesty and vulnerability in your comment. I know for sure that so many other community members can relate very closely with what you're describing in terms of allowing the anger to prevent you from experiencing peace. This is something that I hold very closely to my heart and am creating more supports surrounding personal healing, and spiritual development, because I feel that is what is needed for so many people who are suffering from negativity, anxiety and anger. Chi-miigwetch for allowing me to be apart of this journey with you 💕💕

    Hi Mallory - Nice presentation. Here’s a thought not necessarily Native Based rather it's a cultural concern for all people. I am 76 years old. I'm an observer rather than another mouth spouting inaccuracies. I listen a lot, but talk little. What I see as I got older is people making innocent uneducated mistakes and no one is there to correct them. This in my opinion is the number one cause of a culture sliding into a mire of untruths. The problem seems to be that people are afraid to correct them for any reason you can come up with. What is happening in USA at least is the dummying down of the culture. We have Teachers purposely spouting untruths to children eager to learn and what they hear is falsehoods. If someone does not correct these teachings not only by Teachers but anyone who thinks they know stuff that is just plain false is not what is needed or proper. I see life as when I'm young to trust but validate, when I get to my mid years it's time to help spread truth by correcting falsehoods. When I am an Elder it's assumed that I have learned truths over the years as it's now my responsibility to make corrections when needed. Just a bit of an observation from a very old person who is seeing his country slide into a pit that will be very hard to climb out of. Change in all its iterations is what life is all about. One must always seek out truth if they suspect untruths and be ready and willing to change when Real Truth is before them. Waatowa Pistoto

      Hi Grant, thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! I can absolutely appreciate your point of view as a listener over a talker, as this describes me and my personality as well! What I've learned in my 30 years 😅 is that even though society (or some people in it) might expect me to adopt the role of "correcting" inaccuracies every time I see them, it is sometimes counterproductive, and damaging to myself to correct at every single opportunity.
      As with everything, I think it's about balance, and knowing when to correct someone who is open to growth and learning, versus distancing yourself from situations where the people are set in their ways... but as my gran always says, ask the creator for the wisdom to know the difference between when you are in one situation versus the latter. 😉
      I hope this help, Grant ❤

      @@MalloryRoseCo OKI Mallory - as you describe yourself is pretty close to my personality as well. There are times when it is neccesary to correct someone, and when that happens it is also necesary to be as gentle as one can be under the circumstances. Gentle Winds to You my friend!

    Good you pointed out these concerns...I wondered if there could be a talk specifically on reconciliation - also small social gatherings where none of this is discussed - just friendship and socializing. (which might be a sign we are ready to move on into "Friendship.") Miigwetch!

      I think there are conversations happening for reconciliation every day, all around us. Which is a big step in healing for both parties. Do you attend any of such friendship gatherings? Thank you for the supportive comments Meggie and feedback!

      I havent been to any Friendship Gatherings but I really just became more aware while we were in covid so a lot was not happening anywhere. Also in my area Powwow was cancelled until 2023. We had a presentation by a very knowledgeable Ojibway and the conversation flowed so nice and casual after while some questions still got answered and clarified. I see several cultures who socialize within their own culture and I can understand that. I suppose I look forward to a simple conversation about the weather or a movie someone saw. That sort of thing without always getting to Truth & Reconciliation. Saying that I dont mean to minimize the topic at all...just want to be Friends. 🙋‍♀️🧡🔥💗

    As a native indigenous person in the US though I am half native indigenous Cherokee and Quapaw and half white. You don't feel that it should be closed I respect that but I also believe your not seeing some of the damage being caused.
    Too many people abuse our practices, cultural and in some ways keeping it closed or only within the community as in the next generation is one thing. But to give it to everyone that smudges, dream catchers and other points to forget that US also has resident schools in 1800's. Haskell Indian Nations university is an indigenous university that is still in use though it's no longer a residential school but the graves and stories on those lands serve a reminder of the bad as in letting them remove cultural, beatings, never allowed to return home, being told can't celebrate our traditions because being native indigenous person was bad. It was hushed hushed, so now that the cultural is wide open like the flood gates your telling people it's okay do it correctly but it's free to use which means it starts to mean nothing because it becomes a trend, a stereotype, because people want to be something different. Soo many I have run into aren't indigenous but use indigenous practices all because they saw something that says but this person said it was okay, so I will keep doing it despite it hurts others.
    While their is a way to show people bit and pieces of traditions but some sacred ones are just that sacred not meant for all. When they become wide stream they lose that sacredness and become the norm. While you speak for Canada, people around the world go all native indigenous people feel the same because I watched the videos without knowing if it more cultural appropriation. It's, should come as a surprise when not everyone will view this as a smart idea. There a way to teach it but without going here how we do it or here you use it but disregard that maybe why the elders do it is because they lost so much in those years that keeping it private or among tribal members only is their best known reason for saving it. Just a personal opinion.

    Ik a lot of indigenous folks who don’t want their culture being used by white people (smudging, dance, medicine wheel, ect) and consider the culture to be “closed” is this something you agree with?

    • @MalloryRoseCo
      @MalloryRoseCo  2 года назад +1

      You’re correct for sure! A lot of indigenous folks do want cultural teachings to be a closed practise. I do not agree with this because having rules or requirements for who can learn and who can participate (based on tribal affiliation or percentage of native heritage) isn’t sustainable in keeping the knowledge alive. The world is becoming more diverse, mixed background, multicultural… so setting a judgment on how much is native enough can’t possibly work in my opinion. Do you agree?

    • @angstybreadstyx1242
      @angstybreadstyx1242 2 года назад +1

      @@MalloryRoseCo I agree as long as those who are trying to get into the culture learn from indigenous peoples, buy from indigenous peoples, etc. I don’t like when people buy mass produced dream catchers, smudge without knowing what it means, etc. Wish people would actually listen to indigenous folks about that though but it seems most don’t research what they are doing. I believe I am too white to call myself indigenous, but a lot of my family is tribalized so I still was exposed to the culture and many stories, beliefs, and teachings were still passed to me. I stopped practicing when I got older because I was afraid I was appropriating, but now I don’t feel like I should have to abandon my family and my history simply because of my race. I feel the same way for others like this too and non indigenous people who identify with the culture to be able to learn and practice, as long as they are doing so respectfully and correctly
