Wow, this is my longest video yet. Because of how the Shogun 2 voice lines are organised, I ended up with a lot more naval ashigaru voice lines. This is because all land infantry in Shogun 2 actually share the same set of generic infantry voice lines, with a few specific voice lines for each unit type. I.e., Katana Samurai and Katana Ashigaru share the same voice lines, they only have unique voice lines to identifty themselves, 'Katana ashigaru here...' There are 1 or 2 lines in here I am not 100% sure about, as the sailor speech is very colloquial and has a lot of slang, but I am pretty happy with most of them. Corrections: I asked a native speaker about the sentence at 1:47 as I was not sure, they told me the meaning is: 'It's not an honor to have to stand there like this, it's too hard. Finally the Chad Ashigaru got their attention. Speaking of the naval side of things, did you know that if you zoom in at your ships, sometimes you can hear the sailors singing. By any chance , do you think you can cover that? I've always wanted to know what they say.
I didn't know that actually. I'll have a look at the voice lines, but songs can be hard to translate as Japanese has so many homophones that without subtitles it can be a nightmare haha.

In 1:13, I can hear clearly that him said 戦利品/sen ri hin instead of 戦兵/sen hei, and that will be more accurate since "let's rob some spoils of war" make more sence

Hi Thomas, I have just seen that I managed to miss the 'T' in Christ Alive - woops! Sorry yes, it is just my translation. It would maybe have been better not to have used that phrase, but when you are in the flow of writing translations you sometimes just write out the first equivalent that comes to mind. What makes it 'Christ alive' is the language. なんてこった - nante kotta Nante - emphasis kotta - contraction of 'koto da.' Then the end of the sentence ends in 'おったか？' - Otta ka. Using 'ka' at the end of a sentence in certain contexts can be extremely direct and thus rude. So, as his language is full of slang and directness, 'Christ alive' seemed a good way to express his shock.
It's quite interesting actually. If you hear 'Masu' or 'Masuru' at the end of the sentence, it is polite. 'Masuru' is an older form of 'Masu': 'The -ます ending is generally believed to have come from the Old Japanese auxiliary verb 参まゐらす (mairasu, “to humbly do something for a superior”)' - en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E3%81%BE%E3%81%99 But if you don't hear 'masu' or 'masuru' at the end, it's safe to assume it's just normal Japanese rather than formal Japanese.
Zoom in on your units when they're not fighting, such as the deployment phase and wait a while, you'll hear voice lines of them talking. A very cool feature.

When you you knew that a Daimyo's army has the majority of Ashigaru units than samurais.

If you zoom a little and click on Yari Ashigaru regiment, they'll say ,,Yari Ashigaru, here!" line.
Same thing with any idle unit in most total wars

those lines are from the troops on the battlefield, just scroll into them and you will hear them talk, just like basicly every other TW game
