The Maxon TOD9 actually has an internal DC to DC converter inside it which feeds the tube 30vdc rather than the simple 9vdc given by the wall plug / adapter. This is why the tube actually works / makes a difference. This one's the real deal unlike a lot of other tube based pedals that simply run a standard 9vdc internally.
I LOVE my Maxon TB-09 (the boost version of the valve pedals, it's basically a TS808/TS9 with a tube to get you a nice, warm, clean boost or to blend with the drive. The TD-09 you have here has more gain and less Db boost. My Maxon AD-9 Pro Delay and AC-10 Stereo Chorus are phenomenal, I'll never sell em. Great demo, Shane!! Maxon FTW :D
I'm not one for buzz words/phrases but the TD09 is smooooth as buttah!! It was definitely my favourite! The OD Pro is killer too. Great comparison, Shane!
Cheers Shane good video again, your playing and video/sound production. is soooooo far ahead from when you started, all that effort is paying off, congratulations . I vote Green Rhino Mk IV. :)
The Maxon TOD9 is my choice!!!! More “more” is always the way to go 😂😂!!! Great brand of pedals and a classic tone!! Cool shootout Shane !!!🎸🎸🎸🎸🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
Awesome. All sound great in Shane's hands. I have the TB09 - the True Boost, lower gain than the TD09 - but HOLY MOSES it's got headroom. Pummeling the front end of my amp or another drive pedal, dialing in the "Tube" control really brings in some lower mids. It's warm and LOUD. Did I mention it's loud? Like I always say, never met a Maxon pedal I didn't like.
Shane, the OD820 is similar to a klon but not quite. Basically, it takes the 808 circuit and super sizes it. The power supply is doubled from 9V battery input to 18V. The blending happens around the first opamp (not at the end like a klon) so both signals go through the tone section. It also add's a FET buffer circuit in front like on Boss pedals. It should also have a little less noise and a wider frequency range than a Klon.
@@javiceres No they both still combine the clean signal before the tone circuit. The 820's closer to a tube screamer than a Klon (because of their clipping circuits). Shane just mentioned in the video it was like a Klon. Although, I'm sure I've seen a schematic of a Klon where the output was coupled directly to the output? Might have had too many beers that night!
TOD9, yeah baby! \m/ just has a warmth the SS ones lack, has a bit more low mid kick too! But all of them are good. the pro was better @ pushing than the 808. More clarity!
The original for me as I'm a metal player, for me it's the best boost out there. For blues and classic rock, all day long i'd take the overdrive pro. The tube one isn't for me, not a bad pedal but from what I've heard here I'd skip over it for something else.

OD 808 , 820 and VOP 9 from Maxon have been my best boost crunchy pedals for a long time...Cheers from France Sean 🇫🇷😉

Over Drive Pro all the way! Thanks
I really like my Maxon OD808X. Great comparison!

Peter Schmidt So the dry blend of the Klon is not effected by the Tone circuit? I like that

Loved that TOD9, sounded very tweedy.
Yeah, once you crack the tube booster side
OD820 Pro in a mix is one of the all time best tones out there.

AWESOME REVIEW SHANE !! THAT HARLEY BENTON SOUNDS GREAT ! :)
nice review! great Maxon
I love maxon pedals
Love your videos bro. I'm a big fan of Maxon too; And you're right. What more do you need 5:25 ? BTW, That OD-820 really sounded great to me.
Your skills are reasonably well developed
Shane.....where do you think I could buy one of those Artist Tweedtone 20R tube amps??? I live in Houston, TX

Hey Shane have you tried a
Maxon OD 9?
Not recently. I would love to do a big test of them all.
Awesome. Keep up the good work mate! Cheers from Canada eh!
Does the tube one have a warm up period? Sounds like an awesome always on pedal, but if it has a warm up it makes it less useful for solo boosts etc?
It doesn't no. You just turn it on and you're good to go. It upscales to 30-40v internally I think.
@@intheblues ah cool! I had a TC Tube Pilot and there was just enough warmup for it to be unusable!
tube is powered all time like in standby gives tube sound even if not pressed
@@grimoire7851 ah good to know!
I'm one of the millions out there with a TS9 lol been thinking about getting a OD808 just have not convinced myself to let go of the dough
Good vid.sorry I've been a critic.your a good dude trying to make vids.
Maaaaate , try the Behringer Monster Tube Overdrive !
Hard to decide... Hey Maxxon! I will take all three, DM me for my address :D Nice Vid Shane!
They all sound a bit like a kazoo
You have a great sounding kazoo then.
How much for the Kazoo?
