As a Swede, I actually don’t think we should have joined nato . Let me explain: #1. Our government. Whenever you have a government far leaning whether it be far leaning to the left or right) it always ends badly for the internal structure of the country. Our government has set in place horrible laws that have not regulated things like our crisis with immigration , which I will go into next. Instead of dealing with the internal crises first, they decided to think that Russia was such a threat even though, they do not even border us, and use recourses to join nato. Breaking a staple in Swedish culture, neutrality. #2. Internal issues. Sweden has MANY internal issues but the major one is immigration. The government has prioritized nato acceptance over our immigration policies (which are completely wack) . The immigration crisis has caused our country to have the most grenade attacks in the world, and high crime rates / gang violence. The immigrants as well do not care enough to learn Swedish, or respect the culture, which is causing a cultural gap in the country. #3. Austria is neutral by law and Cyprus is in a conflict. They won't be joining anytime soon.
