that green dessert is Lao/Thai and possible Khmer too. It have a pandan aroma to it. The writing on the sign below the Vietnamese letters is in Thai. My wife Vietnamese wife said this dessert does not exist when she was little girl back in Vietnam many decades ago.
Somehow the way Max eating and describing Vietnamese food is so attractive. It makes you really want to try the food. Everyone has a different experience, and I believe that Vietnam will not disappoint you, although there are many things that are really not good in Vietnam. Most of the people who immigrated from Vietnam to the USA or some other country before 1975 say that Vietnam is a bad country, because they want to instill bad things about Vietnam in your head. I know many foreigners of Vietnamese origin who also say that Vietnam does not have freedom of speech, does not have internet, or has a difficult, poor life like the aborigines living in the mountains, even working as a colony, henchmen of the China. I also understand the loss of you and your family, because my family also has many people died because of war. As a Vietnamese American, I think you should also learn about America's war of aggression against Vietnam, and if someone says Vietnam went to invade or any other war crime, the that is not true. Hope one day you will return to visit your hometown.

You can try asking other foreigners who are or have lived in Vietnam if we are really "free". In the morning, we eat pho, in the afternoon we drink iced tea on the sidewalk, chat with friends, in the evening we can drink beer with friends, sing karaoke. Have you ever been to the pedestrian street in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City? If so, do you think they are the same as in North Korea? Our freedom manifests itself in the smallest things. Max - "elephant ear plant" - I've noticed over the years of watching your videos, you're an encyclopedia of food ingredients. I really admire not only your adventuresome but your broad/diverse palate. As for your idea of spending a bit more time to talk to the proprietor of the eateries, sounds like a great idea Max. I would love to hear their story. If you catch them at a slow period, I'd think they be excited to tell your how they got to where they are now. They are proud of their work/life I'm sure.

Có rất nhiều người nước ngoài sống ở Việt Nam nhưng Chris là một trong những người nói Tiếng Việt rất chuẩn đấy trình độ đó phải ngang với 1 người sống ít nhất 7 năm ở đây. Dù anh ấy chỉ mới ở Việt Nam 2-3 năm. Giọng anh ấy nói bạn ko hiểu thì có phải người Việt Nam ko nhỉ? Còn giọng Nam của bạn mà nói với người miền Nam đây thì cũng chưa chắc được như Max đâu 😌. Dù sao bạn cũng nên về thăm VN đi.

Max - "elephant ear plant" - I've noticed over the years of watching your videos, you're an encyclopedia of food ingredients. I really admire not only your adventuresome but your broad/diverse palate.
As for your idea of spending a bit more time to talk to the proprietor of the eateries, sounds like a great idea Max. I would love to hear their story. If you catch them at a slow period, I'd think they be excited to tell your how they got to where they are now. They are proud of their work/life I'm sure.
I really miss Vietnam after watching these videos. Happy I can live vicariously through these contents.

So glad you guys are back in VN. As a Vietnamese who has been in the US for about 40 yrs, still hasn’t made the trip back., I really appreciate how you are loving the people and the culture. I’ll be there soon to visit my homeland. Meantime, I’ll watch your videos to learn more. BTW Max your Vietnamese is great but Chris I still can’t understand his northern accent!

Xa nước 40 năm nên nhiễu rồi hả bạn. Có rất nhiều người nước ngoài sống ở Việt Nam nhưng Chris là một trong những người nói Tiếng Việt rất chuẩn đấy trình độ đó phải ngang với 1 người sống ít nhất 7 năm ở đây. Dù anh ấy chỉ mới ở Việt Nam 2-3 năm. Giọng anh ấy nói bạn ko hiểu thì có phải người Việt Nam ko nhỉ? Còn giọng Nam của bạn mà nói với người miền Nam đây thì cũng chưa chắc được như Max đâu 😌. Dù sao bạn cũng nên về thăm VN đi.
