If you didn't know, your thumbnails are extremely important to help increase your click through rate on RUclips. And if you aren't paying attention to your CTR, what are you doing?! One of the key factors to getting suggested by RUclips is your audience retention rate AND click through rate. And without a good thumbnail design, people aren't going to click on your video! I use Canva for mine and have grown my channel to over 100 subscribers with 0 networking in my first two months.

One trick I was given a while ago was to increase the saturation and sharpen my thumbnails slightly more than what I want the final result to look like because RUclips has a tendency to decrease the quality of your thumbnails when you upload them, especially if you're trying to use vibrant colours (mine often ended up looking much darker than they did in my editing software)

Canva has changed my thumbnail game but it really does take practice. Its only in the last month that I feel like my thumbnails have started to work a little better for me - I then went back to my old videos, changed my old thumbnails and my CTR has definitely increased! Girl! Try command backspace to fill a selection completely. 🤗 This is an awesome tutorial! I’ve been working in Photoshop for 10 years and I gave up on putting a border around myself because I kept trying to add it as a stroke using with the effect panel. Your method is so much easier and precise! I also love watching other people use Photoshop. There are so many ways to use the program. Your videos are awesome! I’m glad you’re back! I missed you!

Awesome tute, thanks! I also love the two (or more) figures in the thumbnails as it fills the horizontal format better than one figure plompted in the middle.
Great video! As an fyi, you can quickly add an outline by right clicking the layer -> blending options -> stroke.
The cool thing about that is that you can now drag and copy that effect to any of your other pictures going forward so you don't have to keep doing it every time.

the select and then expand feature is PERFECTION!!! makes it so easy to create an outline in a matter of seconds!

Wow! That's a lot that you put into your thumbnails! I was wondering how you were making the outline. And good tip about the not-too-expressive faces. I agree. I would love to know more about how to choose the title name versus what it says on the thumbnail. I imagine you are quite intuitive about this by now, but I struggle to create good combos. Such a great video! I find your channel so helpful. I tried changing some of my thumbnails over the winter, from my first few videos, and I was so shocked to see that a couple of them saw huge increase in views! I found this very helpful. One thing I struggle with is that the topic I cover is a common topic explored in family vlog channels but that style of thumbnail doesn't really work for what I'm offering. I remember specifically clicking on a video of yours for the first time because it wasn't the red white and blue RUclips button type thumbnail that is common in a lot of other channels, which are also great channels. Your thumbnail stood out. I would love a video that talks about writing titles not just for the algorithm but for your actual audience so that people would want to click on them. The title is what I look at first and the thumbnail second.
