I got hooked on Currensy when wiz and big K.R.I.T. were really coming up. When I couldn’t get my music fix from them I noticed currensy kept giving me albums damn near every month. I had counted how many projects I had from spitta on my iTunes and was like damn he must be my fav artist I got like 18 albums of dude lol

Fans be upset when artist don't drop anything and then they complain when you drop too much. It's not that deep people. Just enjoy the art for what it is. This is what artists do.

Also, Currency knows we are in a playlist era. People are going to listen to an album fast and put their faves on a playlist. So if you want streaming dollars you need to pop up a lot on people's playlist. You do this with quantity. Smart man.

04:45 I love doing projects and that statement is so true of what people have said "No one's listening to an album, if they don't know you" and that MIGHT be true, but if they did... they would get to know you the same way a single can shed some light of who you are. Music is art, so keep painting. SOmebody's gonna love it, more importantly.. You loved it if you put it out, and that matters the most.

@@TheCuttyBrownyou really think Larry is better (I respect your opinion and can understand how you could say that) curren$y is just lyrically so much better. Larry nice but his lyrics are very easy to digest and doesn’t require much thought. I think it’s just the vibe you prefer, and I’ve honestly listened to more Larry in the past 3 years than I’ve listen to new $pitta. He definitely over saturated and dropped too much music to keep up with. After a while it all sounds the same. I’m not the biggest Jay-Z fan but because he drops so rarely I look forward to a new release. Same with future and Eminem, even if the album isn’t good I look forward to the new release. Only artist who dropped banger after banger month after month for years that I could digest was Gucci and Wayne and I’m not saying they are the best lyrically. I’m more of a Lupe fan fr

What Curren$y is doing is what we called building a solid foundation, now as an indies artist what you do is create tracks, sell them, put them on streaming platform, get airplay, do shows & tours, but keep the tracks coming on a regular, then drop mixtapes, mixtapes is what runs the underground scenes in the streets, so when something may not be hot on the radio, it will be hot in the streets, then you mix both together, the radio friendly tracks & grimey tracks & create an audience that just be loving all your creations. Plus as an Indie artist your image & artworks is what sell you off, then all the merch that you create will also be selling because of having content.

Nas dropping 6 albums in 3 years. I like at least 2-3 songs per project. Let’s say 6 x 3 is 18 songs. Nas has successfully gave me an albums worth of music scattered between projects. This also allows a new comer to travel back in time to his other classics. Next thing you know you might have 30+ songs from Nas on your playlist ready to recite all of his songs at his next concert. Love for the art repays itself 🙌🏾

I saw Ghostface Killah on Oahu around 10 years ago. Dope show! when I walked in and saw the merch table, I saw all of his albums on CD. I’ve bought everyone of his albums either on CD or digitally so I wasn’t interested. I saw some shirts that were 40 bucks and were dope but I don’t really wear T-shirts and I didn’t really feel like dropping $40 on a T-shirt. After the show was over as I started to walk out, I saw that Ghostface went to his merch table to sell stuff personally. Better believe I got in that line for that merch table and bought six shirts Since I was giving him the money directly! I had him autograph them all while I got to talk to him for a minute and give him daps. I did screen printing for many years, so when I look at the cost of those shirts versus how much he was making off of them that profit margin is insane.
I also went to a grouch show probably 15 years ago and they were selling a grouch skateboard deck for like $75. I wasn’t going to buy it but then after the show grouch was selling the merchandise himself so I bought that skateboard and had him sign it and thanked him for his music

I just discovered your channel. I have wanted to understand the music industry better. I am not an artist. I am a super fan of BTS. I buy everything they put out and listen to their music 80% of my day almost seven days a week since 2019. They cannot put out too much music. All their music is quality even if it is not my most go to. I wrote all this to show my confusion about an artist putting out too much music. If the quality is there, how can there be too much music? Now that they are doing solo music while they slowly go into the military, they have 7 solo albums released in the last year and a half. This is a ton of music I can fall into for whatever occasion or mood. One of the rappers, Yoongi, did a solo arena tour, 28 shows, this year that all sold out in less than 15 minutes. They added online streaming. The show was creative, interesting and emotional and rap is not my primary go to music. What is BTS doing that the US music industry, with some exceptions, not doing? One more thought, I liked what you said at the end. I love buying CDs or vinyl but mostly listen to the music through Spotify. I understand the artists barely get paid on streams but it is a convenient way to listen to music. Therefore, I buy the physical album to support my favs and have a trophy for that moment to remember. I really appreciate your thoughts on this video. Good luck in your career.

I think the more honest answer would be "i know i have a very niche audience that's probably not gonna get any bigger than it currently is, and this way I'm at least giving them a lot of music to consume and engage with"
I like Curren$y ever since the Smoker's Club era back around 2010 I think? I'm pretty sure I saw him perform with Smoke DZA and maybe even Big Sean oddly enough. But except for a few songs that i really like I just don't find his music that interesting. Dude stays true to himself and his sound so I have to respect that.
