    WTF was a man of his age presenting TOTP at this time? He probably didn't give a stuff about the music in 81, just what girls he could get his hands on.

      +Everything80s He was a very popular personality back then. Believe it or not...

      Course it's the girls. He was born in 1926 I've never met a man of his generation interested in music at all apart from the old crooners.

      Saville was 54 years of age at the time this TOTP edition was broadcast.

      Chris Lightfoot Because it wasn't reported officially to the BBC's HR department. And only a very select few heard rumours, which is probably why it wasn't reported.
      The BBC have searched through their records and there is no record of anyone officially reporting him for his activities to them. They can't act on rumours alone. Showbiz is one of the bitchiest industries there is, so rumours fly about everywhere. if they sacked or imprisoned everyone based on just rumours, there'd be no-one left with a job!
      Savile was interviewed by police over an allegation made when he was alive, but they let him go scot free. Savile was one of those people who could talk and charm his way out of a room with no doors.

    • @anne3362

      There was no evidence against him..they didnt just let him go 'scot free'. I hate the way people think now.

    With Jimmy Savile presenting this, you can bet that this edition of Top of the Pops will not be repeated next year on BBC Four.Sad really, as I would like to see it too-but why can't the BBC edit him out I wonder?

    • @conscienceaginBlackadder
      @conscienceaginBlackadder 8 лет назад +3

      Today they showed an edition from must be the weeks following this, with the same number 1, similar chart, and the new theme - yet it's still only March 31. The whole repeat cycle's accuracy has been abandoned.

    totally agree with bruce danton about editing Saville out of the programme,al though because he featured prominently in this episode, I'd say the end product would look a tad messy..also agree that he was a terrible dj and presenter, a complete spoofer who unfortunately got away with a lot of nasty stuff.

      +greenfingers gardener I hope you were being sarcastic.
      He was neither a great DJ, nor a great presenter.
      And he most certainly wasn't a great child-minder!!!

    • @barbaraannecortina7899
      @barbaraannecortina7899 8 лет назад +3

      I don't think he WAS being sarcastic to be honest - he WAS a great man...until he died and all this shit started coming out of the woodwork. If it wasn't for him telling us to clunk click in the early 1970s, then seat belts wouldn't have become compulsory in 1983, plus he helped get more people using British Rail in the early 80s. As regards Jim'll Fix It, I grew up with that although I sometimes wonder why it was ever broadcast at all because he hated children, although he did a very good job of not showing it on screen.Anyway, he's been dead nearly five years and therefore not around to defend himself. In case you didn't know (or chose NOT to know), nine years ago, he was quizzed by police over these allegations and, if you ask me, he would have complied but he didn't want the charity he set up to suffer and it shouldn't. That charity is NOT a slush fund for those who seek compensation for what he did...any compensation HAS to come from the Savile Estate

      barbara anne cortina In 1973 I bought Dark Side Of The Moon in my school lunch-break, in a transparent record bag, my music teacher saw me with it in the corridor, asked me to bring it to my next lesson (3rd year in UK), he played it, was impressed (as was most of class) then asked me where I heard it, I said 'the John Peel Show', he said 'as long it wasn't Jimmy Savile'......I understand now.

    • @jamesshaw6474
      @jamesshaw6474 2 года назад +1

      @@barbaraannecortina7899 He wasn't ever a great man and despite common belief, his actions were reported to the police on several occasions and multiple allegations were made against him during his lifetime
      Savile did not comply though and actually threatened to take legal action against some of his victims and used a mix of intimidation and gaslighting to make sure that the hundreds of people he abused remained quiet

    He looks so out of place and looks embarrassing presenting this at that age. It wouldn't be allowed now. Then again he probably wanted to present this particular episode. A relaunch equals a relaunch after party as well.

      No evidence against DLT about underage women. It was all thrown out of court. Only 1 charge remained which was a 22 year old of which he was convicted.
