I think my favorite thing about each country is their respective national anthems. I don't know why there is so much animosity towards some of these anthems, but to me, they all are beautifully composed and sung.

Maybe you should learn more about other cultures. I don't mean to sound harsh, I'm just saying each country has a rich history and culture that can't be summed up in a few paragraphs of song.

I'm a proud New Zealander but South Africa should be number 1. That's the most beautiful national anthem in the world. As great as our anthem is it pales in comparison to when you see the Boks belting theirs out.
Voodoo Walker im not religious and even though its kinda written like that, the nz national anthem is practically a prayer which has been answered, "peace not war shall be our boast","and corruption guard or state", nz is the second least corrupt country in the world.

In New Zealand at the moment we are having a referendum to change our flag to better represent our nation (and so people can actually tell the difference between our flag and the Australian one). In response the opposition political party suggested it would be better to change our national anthem. I allways thought we had a pretty good Anthem which represents our ideals as a nation and is musically alright (as far as anthems go) So its good to see our little nation top this list. Might forward this to Andrew Little the labor leader. =)
They have a short list to decide on but none that particularly speak to me. Not one of them features an actual kiwi on it which i think is our most definable symbol. That's if it gets changed at all. Alot of NZr's see it as a waste of money and time at least in the face of the TPPA trade deal negotiations it is seen as a blatant attempt at distraction and may well be the case so it has been very unpopular due to timing.

I don't know which definition of communism have you read, buuuuuut that doesn't fit the actual one (which I recommend you to read). Whatever, I'm not communist, I don't like their ideals. We need borders because we have a leader system and it's impossible to have one leader for everyone, I know, but as I said, i would like to listen to wider anthem. Not every country is represented in the UN, plus it's sung in English, when there are more than 100 languages, but I can understand that. However, that anthem doesn't talk about the planet, it just talks about union. I understand the existence of borders, but they just complicate things.

oh yeah... The native 'Maori' language and culture is what makes us unique in many ways. I would've love to see the american anthem incorporate some traditional Indian verses, likewise our fellow Aussies, aboriginal...
I'm not sure how Maori languages work in New Zealand, but here in Australia there are over 200 indigenous aboriginal languages, so it would be unfair to select just one to use in our national anthem. Also, our only "official" language is English

Killjoy After the demise of the Soviet Union, the government of the first Russian president Yeltsin introduced a new national anthem using a melody by classic Russian composer Glinka. When Putin came to power, one of his first presidential decrees was to abolish this Russian anthem and to reintroduce the old Soviet anthem going back to the terror reign of Stalin. Of course, the text had to be changed as all references to an "indestructible Union of free republics", "Lenin's party, the force of the people" etc. etc. had obviously become obsolete. Still, the return to the old Stalinist melody was seen by many as symbolic and programmatic for Putin's future course.

Russia made the list, too. So did the UK and France. (More bang for the buck.) I think Canada made the list because _O Canada_ really is a beautiful anthem.
They picked a horrible version of both the Canada and America Anthems. Especially the American one, It sounds horrible with some person who can't even hit the right note and keeps stuttering singing it, with only vocals and no instruments.
Just my 2 cents worth: I'd add the Thai national anthem. Also, while it's now defunct, the Iranian anthem under the Shah was a really good one (search for "Iranian Anthem Shah.") A good one you NEVER want to listen to is Horst Wessel Lied, the anthem of Germany under the Nazis. It's a great tune, but you don't want that stuck in your head. I wish I'd never listened to it!
I agree and don't mind saying so although I am a Social Democrat and not a NAZI that the Horst Wessel Song has a great tune. I don't think it was a National Anthem I think it was a NAZI marching song. I wonder was it written by Wessel a NAZI hero killed in Bavaria during a demonstration or just in his honor. As a born free South African I can say with pride, that our anthem deserves its place in this list. I get chills every time I hear it and goosebumps every time I sing it. This anthem makes me exceptionally proud of our diversity, our freedom and what we've achieved. Whilst the others are good, Nkosi Sikelel holds a special place for me.
I am Totally missing the Norwegian, Dutch, German and Polish Anthem. Besides that I can't say I like the United States' anthem It is not bad but I certainly would not count it in the top 10 same goes for the South African, New Zealand and Australian Anthems. As a Kiwi, I feel pretty much the same. We've got a boring flag and a boring anthem. Stuff like Russia's anthem sounds badass though. Not sure why US anthem is on here either, it feels like it can't stick to a single key for longer than 4 bars and it lacks an actual motif. Half the endings of lines feel incomplete (blah blah some bullshit about cadences). Musically, it just sets my teeth on edge.

And I'm American and think the British anthem is so much better. Mad props to anyone who can hit the high the note in Star Spangled Banner, but as someone from the marginalised in the US, this song is inspiring and brutally hollow at the same time. Much better is 'God Save the Queen', which we use as our other anthem "My Country Tis of Thee'. Don't know how but somehow it seems more inclusive.

I suppose its not really how good the anthem is, its about what it really means to the people. In past times in the UK the monarchy have been our parliament and what has kept our nation together. I am British and I really love the royal family, most of the UK is submerged in "royal culture" that most people from other nations don't understand. I am honestly proud to live in a country that lies on so much culture and amazing monarchy. We haven't always been nice (take our empire for example) but nowadays the monarchy are still important. our anthem doesn't talk about freedom or war, because our nation never went through that, and I admit it is very old fashioned, but so is the UK in many aspects. The UK lead the world in terms of many things, they have always done and will continue to do, and our royal family founded all of this, so I think we have a right to ask god to save the queen.

I don't know which definition of communism have you read, buuuuuut that doesn't fit the actual one (which I recommend you to read). Whatever, I'm not communist, I don't like their ideals. We need borders because we have a leader system and it's impossible to have one leader for everyone, I know, but as I said, i would like to listen to wider anthem. Not every country is represented in the UN, plus it's sung in English, when there are more than 100 languages, but I can understand that. However, that anthem doesn't talk about the planet, it just talks about union. I understand the existence of borders, but they just complicate things.

Just my 2 cents worth: I'd add the Thai national anthem. Also, while it's now defunct, the Iranian anthem under the Shah was a really good one (search for "Iranian Anthem Shah.") A good one you NEVER want to listen to is Horst Wessel Lied, the anthem of Germany under the Nazis. It's a great tune, but you don't want that stuck in your head. I wish I'd never listened to it!

As a born free South African I can say with pride, that our anthem deserves its place in this list. I get chills every time I hear it and goosebumps every time I sing it. This anthem makes me exceptionally proud of our diversity, our freedom and what we've achieved. Whilst the others are good, Nkosi Sikelel holds a special place for me.

As a Kiwi, I feel pretty much the same. We've got a boring flag and a boring anthem. Stuff like Russia's anthem sounds badass though. Not sure why US anthem is on here either, it feels like it can't stick to a single key for longer than 4 bars and it lacks an actual motif. Half the endings of lines feel incomplete (blah blah some bullshit about cadences). Musically, it just sets my teeth on edge.

Mad props to anyone who can hit the high the note in Star Spangled Banner, but as someone from the marginalised in the US, this song is inspiring and brutally hollow at the same time. Much better is 'God Save the Queen', which we use as our other anthem "My Country Tis of Thee'. Don't know how but somehow it seems more inclusive.

2) Scotland is part of the UK, and, as such, has the UK's national anthem.
Britain isn't a country, no, but the United Kingdom is... you guys made sure of that :).

The British one doesn't deserve to be on there. It is the worst anthem possible. It is a song of subservience to an unelected hereditary monarchy on earth, and an imaginary hereditary monarchy in the sky.
Its just saying God should be with the Queen.... -.-
I suppose its not really how good the anthem is, its about what it really means to the people. In past times in the UK the monarchy have been our parliament and what has kept our nation together. I am British and I really love the royal family, most of the UK is submerged in "royal culture" that most people from other nations don't understand. I am honestly proud to live in a country that lies on so much culture and amazing monarchy. We haven't always been nice (take our empire for example) but nowadays the monarchy are still important. our anthem doesn't talk about freedom or war, because our nation never went through that, and I admit it is very old fashioned, but so is the UK in many aspects. The UK lead the world in terms of many things, they have always done and will continue to do, and our royal family founded all of this, so I think we have a right to ask god to save the queen.
***** yes that was beautiful and I see ur point however I am beginning to dislike the queen after realising that she has so much power and influence and she remains head of state of the common wealth counties and is the biggest land owner in the world, she vould do so much good in the world she has the power to change the world yet she chooses to do nothing for example same sex marrige is illegal in more than half the common wealth countires and it was only till recently that it was legalised here in england which im a shamed it too so long, if I was king I would change the world for the better she has no idea how lucky she is
Brandon Pegler yes, you can say that she does have the power for change in the world but, so does the president of the united states ( a damn superpower) and he hasnt done much either and the queen doesn't even have that much power in the commonwealth nations anyway that's why we have prime ministers and such
