Why didn't you take a taxi? It costs about 15 euros for 4 people. If you split the price with other passengers it will be really cheap (and fast, and comfortable). If you travel alone - speak with people of your country a night before, ask who plans to go to the city and arrange taxi sharing with them. This way you may also make good friends; if people have the same interests as yours, you may enjoy each others company in other port or another cruise.
Just one correction. Funchal is not in Azores islands, but in Madeira.
The Azores are made up of NINE smaller Islands, Madeira being one of them
Madeira belongs to Azores islands group.
