This album really grew on me, to the point where it's a strong contender for my favourite album by them. This song and the lost shepherd are just incredible

Worlds are burning out to the endless shame of this mistaken way
We wither on and on in this game we play
Go ring on the bells of war and head straight into the lion's cage
You went and told your secrets here
So you can take to the grave
cause there is no stopping me, so long
Lungs hang in this dead man's curtain
Believe in me cause I won't believe in this
    The end is now starting
oh, so please just take your seat
and live your last moments waving goodbye, desperately
Having a nice day while we're
    swinging from gallows perched atop
Fool sit still, watch them, please take your number
Spill on through killing fields, the blood of desperate men can change
The thirst of a boy who breathes again
So you can take to the grave
but there is no stopping me
Lungs hang in this dead man's curtain
Believe in me cause I have been holding you back
    The end is now starting
oh, so please just take your seat
and live your last moments waving goodbye, desperately
Having a nice day while we're
    swinging from gallows perched atop
Fool sit still, watch them, please take your number
There is no room for words against them now
Cause you're my guiding light, they couldn't make a sound
Is there a way to say, to incriminate, oh, listen to me
Oh, well baby, open that door
So you can take to the grave
cause there is no stopping me, so long
Lungs hang in this dead man's curtain
Believe in me as I won't believe in this
    The end is now starting
oh, so please just take your seat
and live your last moments waving goodbye, desperately
Having a nice day while we're
    swinging from gallows perched atop
Fool sit still, watch them, please take your number
    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
    Hallelujah, Halle--

@nunrgtrance2 i love how the drums on this song make it almost sound like a train of deth stomping its way through my eardrums on a track of awesomeness. lol, i do agree about the cymbals though. if it was produced properly, you wouldnt hear it as much, but it is just a demo. it actually sounds more raw and intense than most of the stuff that was actually on the record though.

This song is different from the other YOTBR songs, so I get why it didn't make the record. But it's an awesome song and I'm glad it made it's way here anyway.
And I think you shouldn't jugde new albums or songs by comparing them to what the band has produced prior to them. I mean, The Color Before The Sun doesn't compare to their previous tone quite much, and I was a little disappointed too when I first heard it and expected another "Coheed" album continuing their previous sound or however you want to call it. But if you step away from that comparison, it's an amazing album, it's just different, but isn't that great? It would be boring if they just kept on doing exactly the same stuff for decades. And while trying out new sounds also means that there's a chance to "fail", it's what developement is about. And after all, the old records will be there as they are forever, no matter what Coheed develops into!

    • @gagerichter5765
      @gagerichter5765 6 лет назад +1

The color before the sun is different because that's when he stopped writing comics. he began to focus more on writing songs about himself and his life as a parent, a husband, and a human living his life altogether. I love all of the albums, but my favorites have to be TCBTS and YOTBR. and I love every stage Claudio and the others have gone through. whether that be the early days of Shabutie, Prize Fighter Inferno, or the present day Coheed that we all know and love.

I know its overedited and all but is still a solid album. And listening to this album really shows a new side of Claudio lyric wise. I love The Afterman that album truly shows Claudio at his best but you have to remember if it wasn't for this album there wouldn't have been an Afterman. I know people say this album but I still feel like it shows some evolution for Claudio.

I agree with you, it's nice listening all the albums in order and seeing how they have evolved as musicians. Comparing Second Stage and Afterman (as their first and last work) is interesting. When someone asks me what album they should listen to first, I tell them to listen them all in order, to see how they have changed and grown.
Sorry if I made mistakes, my English sucks XD

@Lanakikuta Yes, they're finishing up a handful of tours in Mexico and I thinkkkk South America, and are also in the process of writing new album material and a compilations album with covers. Why would you question the longevity of this band? The band makes a living because of people like you and I, my friend. They're not leaving for a long time. :)

@Dunnerski Yes, they do touch on prog-metal sometimes. They aren't Opeth or Dream Theater, but still. They are prog-rock with metal tendencies I guess if that helps you sleep at night. Not insane metal, but you get it. Believe it or not, metal never used to be 2 minutes of sweep arpeggios and tapping solos at 320 bpm.

u gotta luv the "ooh"s & "hallelujah"s starting @ 3:37. i know i do. lol. i pretty much luv this whole song. Coheed & Cambria are pretty much my favorite band right now. it's because of songs like this 1 that give them potential 2 lead a legacy older prog rock bands now lead. such as Kansas, Styx, Pink Floyd, Rush, Queensrÿche & Tool. just 2 name a few random examples. \m/

@raketen86 I would say most of their Good Apollo 1 album could be considered progressive metal, Welcome Home, The Writing Writer, the entire Willing Well series, there are some ballads and inbetweeners, but I would argue that album, as well as selective other numbers from across their discography (i.e. In Keeping Secrets, Delirium Trigger, No World For Tomorrow, etc.) could be not only considered metal but progressive metal, as well.

  • @OneOfTheFire

I think if they cleaned the drums during the chorus and a few other things, this would have been one of the best songs in the album. The cymbal crash is just too dominant in the chorus for me to the point it's hard to hear anything

    • @nathangomez4409
      @nathangomez4409 5 лет назад +2

Honestly, the fault lies entirely with the producers. Coheed and Cambria's first three albums were mixed by Michael Birnbaum and Chris Bittner, and those are the three most popular albums they've released, and in my opinion, they're the best.
Year of the Black Rainbow on the other hand was produced by Atticus Ross and Joe Barresi. Neither of them had any experience with mixing Coheed's sound, and neither of them ever mixed another album of theirs after this, and it's very apparent just by listening to this album. The mix is so god damn sloppy. Why the hell are the cymbals louder than the guitar? It's the same cymbal crash over and over again - they didn't think it'd be irritating to hear that nonstop for a whole minute?
Thank God they never touched another Coheed album. Their music has certainly benefited from avoiding them.

  • @philswims
    @philswims 14 лет назад

@BowbuttSmiff It's all about the coherence of the album. This song sounds different than the rest of the album. That's the whole point, to have the album tell a story. Remember the book that got released with the deluxe album? Claudio even said himself that he write it in the same world as the rest of the album, along with The Lost Shepherd. Besides, the producer is amazing. He produced such awesome bands as Queen, and I think he did a pretty good job on this album. As long as the band's happy.

wat all you need to understand about this and shepards sound quality is that these were recorded on a home set up, not in the studio with atticus or joe, hence demos....on the note on the album, the effects were alittle over done but above all i love it.......no coheed record sounds alike and this just takes that statement even further. no one could say second stage and IKSSE3 have a similar sound or good apollo I and NWFT have similar sounds.....so just try and open up to their progression

@Tandaro Like I said, the way we think of metal today is not how it started. Most of Coheed's influences are metal or hard rock to begin with. They love heavy metal(especially Iron Maiden), so don't think it's offensive to them to consider their music to have metal tendencies. They'd agree wholeheartedly. I never said that they do death vocals with 80 million notes per second. You guys reading this comment and taking it the wrong way. Coheed is not metal all the time, but they do touch on it.

I mean, if the band had most of the say and the record didn't do so well, then you could say it was their call, but this is freaking tasty! Effort was still put forth, and it WAS something new, so I can't complain, honestly. It's just... Sad.

Why do some people choose to become the living embodiment of the trope "They Changed it Now it Sucks"?
So YOTBR had a different sound. Don't like it, just skip it. I happened to really enjoy the album on its own merits without constantly having to compare it to NWFT or Good Apollo. Tracks like "Here We Are Juggernaut", "World of Lines", and "Where Skeletons Live" were fantastic pieces of pure prog-rock goodness.

    • @theprinceofgaming1545

I mean, the Afterman also has a bunch of prog tracks over it, Domino, The Afterman, Evagalia, Gravity's Union (my personal favorite of theirs) that were all better than YotBR. I'm just now discovering these demos and they are all better than the majority of that album. In The Flame Of Error and Far are 2 of my favorite Coheed songs so I know it's not all bad, but I really see why this album is disliked.

    @cursedreject lolz,
i kinda agree.I love YOTBR but...i know they want to progress and all that but..i wish the song had more of the feeling Iksose3 or Good apollo had.. i mean take Guns of summer for ex *1 of my fav YOTBR songs btw * the sound is epic, but they could of done less to his voice..and left some of the robotic sound they gave it out/ I was hoping for more of there SSTB sound since its a prequel, but like i said i still love the album just...i miss there old stuff .

This is probably one of my favorite tracks from the YotBR set. Too bad it didn't make it onto the actual album. /sigh

@YouKilledAlan I wasn't I was trying to say that sometimes they have progressive elements and they obviously are mostly metal. I wasn't simply dropping them into one genre.

It would be sick if this, The Lost Shepherd and In the Flame of Error were like a trilogy or something. They just seem to go together.
I don't know what the producers were thinking, leaving this off the album.
At least we got it as a B-Side!!

I got my copy ripped from FYE. If you go into a music store and ask for it, they'll either order it for you or they'll have a rippable copy that you can buy from them. You just have to ask. :)

@morbidangel9197 Actually, black metal involves a lot of atmosphere and feeling it's all just wasted on being entirely dark and satanic for the sake of being dark and satanic. It's actually more comedic than anything. Most of it is actually not that complex.
Prog-metal sometimes dwells on being entirely complex, though. Sometimes it completely misses the atmosphere and feeling for the sake of complexity. It can sometimes be comedic as well, but not as much.
