Dylan Herring Great video content! Apologies for butting in, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you considered - Chireetler Dread Free Rule (just google it)? It is an awesome one off guide for learning self effective defence moves without the headache. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my mate after many years got cool results with it.
TrusTIo TrusTiov nah man, just read the landing page after googling it, and the really bad Grammer and broken English make me think it sounds like a scam, and I'm not about to risk it. Besides, I'm proficient in krav maga, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, I really don't feel the need for anything else. Maybe Muay Thai, if I have the time, or silat so I can get better with my knives. Thanks for your consideration though?
"and as always.. restomp the groin" - Master Ken ---- Great video. We were watching and yelling out solutions.. you covered most of them. Being in the gift wrap is tough.
He is a great martial arts master, as he has often stated to many. Perhaps someday you might review his flawless techniques. He might also have a few videos on youtube.
Dude I do the same, S mount is amazing while Gift Wrapping, you can easily transition to No-gi Bow and Arrow Choke, or Ezekiel or Arm Bar, or Arm Triangles!!!
Good video. Do take note about the downward elbows that may came come raining down with a more vicious minded agressor. Especially if your back is taken in a street fight. Sharp elbows to the back of the head, neck or spine can be fatal. Being giftwrapped is a very bad position and the best way is to really not get in that spot in the first place.
I find myself in the top gift wrap often! I had to google offensive options because I wasn’t sure what to do from there... What I learnt here tho, is ALWAYS go for a gift wrap in a dominant position... And being a slightly bigger guy is helpful, even with someone your size or larger, because the weight you have to press someone’s arm down to where you might snag it is obviously advantageous, and the muscles of the persons arm, and maybe lats, doesn’t grow enough with their size (compared to the full weight of a torso of same size muscle) to prevent this. Gift wrap might be a big guy move, but one that works against other big guys!!
I only do BJJ. No MMA. So, I feed the arm that would be punching into the gift wrap and grip my other wrist. They can no longer turn away. There are then some basic and at least one pretty flashy thing to do from there.
Greg Jennings I did some research into this, and my god what some wizards can do! Thankfully I don’t roll with them at my school, or I’d be 3 seconds of their highlight reel 😪
I don't understand how is the position you are describing. How could you feed the punching arm into the giftwrap? And your free hand grips your trapped wrist? Why?
Adrián Arroyo : See this at the 1:00 mark. You can see him inserting the free hand and monkey gripping the wrist of the hand that is controlling the giftwrapped arm. ruclips.net/video/b7tGB3RfgIA/видео.html
Ooooh, so you are the atacker! I was thinking otherwise, now it all make sense, thank you! And thank you too for the link, very interesting options to do from there. Gotta try it tonight!
Adrián Arroyo : YVW! It's a cool position. OTOH, in the gi, you are better off getting lapel choke grips and working from there. I'm old and have trouble making that handoff. I'm working on that as one of my primary issues.
That's why I said while utilising the Butterfly guard, someone's mounting you and you want to set up a scenario where you can pass to butterfly guard and sweep em.
Me and a friend started working on a possible way out of it (I love the giftwrap btw), would appreciate your thoughts on this: ruclips.net/video/dxms_9Lsyiw/видео.html
if your opponent really pulls on the wrist and drops the chest onto your shoulder there is no way you will be able to turn. if he sits up straight then you can go to bottom mount maybe.
Patrick Sogl Thanks for replying! We just started by bridging into the leg to disrupt the balance of the person holding the giftwrap, and our experience was that the harder the grip was applied, the easier it was to bridge and roll. Please read the description if you didn’t, and please try it out and let me know how it works for you. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks again.
There is no instance in the video where you pull the wrist properly and where you put on weight appropriately. That's my issue with it. Try dropping your chest and actually pull with your back and twisting the hips a bit (like a dumbbell row). If bottom can move his hips into you, you are doing it wrong. Remember you usually want to get the back and turn them over. Pull and drive down/forward! If you are upright (mma throwing punches) it can work. But for bjj Stephan's techniques seem more realistic.
Patrick Sogl You make good points. And as we said in the description, we looked at a specific circumstance, namely the type of giftwrap we do in the video, the more upright version. We will be sure to try it the way you suggested next time. And again, it would be fun if you could try it and get back to me again afterwards, And this was our only goal with the video, to get a discussion going.
Hey, if the opponent is giving you this energy then great. Bridging up onto your opponent's knee/thigh seems interesting, but I'll have to play with it to comment further. One potential problem is that you end up in the closed guard with the gift wrap still applied - most people are going to try to roll you back the way you came using that same grip, so you've got to get rid of that as soon as possible. Anyhow, thanks for sharing!!
i love the gift wrap, its a personal favorite. its nice to hear you describe it as such a terrible position to be in

Who is this 'Master Ken' of whom you speak? There are no records of him in our dojo scrolls...
He is a great martial arts master, as he has often stated to many. Perhaps someday you might review his flawless techniques. He might also have a few videos on youtube.
"In an MMA context, at least the ref is going to stop me from dying." Lmao
Haute Couture unless it's Mario Yamasaki
I play gift wrap allot and I usually s mount so they can't recover half guard and it's a guaranteed back take
Thus making an already terrible situation much worse for your poor opponent!!
Dude I do the same, S mount is amazing while Gift Wrapping, you can easily transition to No-gi Bow and Arrow Choke, or Ezekiel or Arm Bar, or Arm Triangles!!!
good video. How about getting out of that back mount when they have you flattened out?

Completely agree!
You should have a three-way battle Royale between you and your twins to determine who is the superior Stephen.
I think there might have been 4 so far... Me, the Karate me, the German jiu-jitsu me, and the zombified me...
Zombie guy would have to sit out. Too many unfair advantages.
Hahahahaha that intro was amazing
Yes, show the most deadly stuff first!!

Ok ok but more to the point where do I but that sweet AF joker rash guard?
Fusion fight gear makes and sells them!

noob here. would it make sense to try and under hook his leg with your left arm and roll clockwise to try and scramble?
as always..thank you
Lol i'm glad i watched this random video. Lol the technique to kill and cripple simultaneously. Too funny!
Any tips on escaping mount using the butterfly guard?
Thomogon if you have butterfly guard, you’re not in mount.
That's why I said while utilising the Butterfly guard, someone's mounting you and you want to set up a scenario where you can pass to butterfly guard and sweep em.
10/10 wig dude
