- Jeremy Hunt accused Labour of spreading "fake news" about his economic plans to win the upcoming general election. Speaking in London on May 17, the Chancellor criticized Labour's claim that scrapping national insurance would create a £46 billion funding gap and result in higher taxes on pensioners.
He said, "It is fake news and an absolute disgrace to try and win this election by scaring pensioners about a policy that is not true."
Hunt announced that further tax cuts would be implemented in the autumn and criticised Keir Starmer for making unrealistic promises following Starmer's speech on Thursday.

This actually turned into a very interesting conversation. I've also been noticing how increasingly countries are run by "independent" organizations outside government, who are somehow appointed without any democratic accountability.
For example: I think the Bank of England had a more sensible economic policy than Liz Truss. But does the public get a chance to vote out the BoE or the OBR leadership if they disagree?
The security services also seem to be interfering in politics and public life more and more. Demanding that politically unpopular ideas are removed from the internet. Or that people with controversial opinions have their revenue streams removed without due process. Do we get a vote on those policies?
