- I did a video 24 hours ago on uboxxing and setting up a Motus MINI!
After using this just for 24 hours, I am hear to tell everyone how much of a Pain in the ____ it is to use.
HAving to make sure it's tethered to your phone and the app connected, is a bit much. Not only that, but SOMETIMES , this also causes performance issues on your phone when trying to surf internet, watch youtube, or use apps. Watch the video for more!
On this device, you must tether it to you phone when you get in your vehicle and run the app ( in the background of your phone) while you are driving.
The motus is still on testnet and no on full main net yet.

I am hoping for a firmware update to use BT instead of wifi...
I had my brand new car battery drained over night with the Motus. I ended up buying a splitter and modifying it to wire the power into a circuit that only turns on when you start the car. I also use a second cell phone as the HotSpot and running the app that connects to my main phones HotSpot to get Internet.
But I agree it's not as passive as it should be. You should not have to open the app and start the drive.
Thanks. Fortunately, I have not had that happen yet, even with a splitter and the Motus and a Dimo plugged into it. I’m wondering if this has to do with the car manufacturer also. I’ve noticed when I get into my car, neither device is powered up until I start my vehicle.
Oh interesting,@@GrumpyDadOutdoors yeah it's possible it's different for different cars. I tested my car and the number 16 pin is always on. I also have both plugged into my car but the Dimo goes to sleep on it's own, the Motus never does.

Should have mine soon, planning on using a cleaned out a phone with nothing on it just for the mini. I have an S20 never use it, going stay in car all the time.
As long as the S20 has service somehow to tether the Motus to. I think that should work!
I also had issues with it starting to drain my battery down to where I had to get my battery jumped.
I got mine today and the app won’t even stay open, crashes when the hotspot on. This product seems to be nothing but problems.
Very informative! Does the motus earn like the macaron? like the macaron you only need to connect once a week to earn rewards. I'm thinking maybe just connecting the motus sometimes since theres these problems.. i hope they'll get to bluetooth by mainnet
It also connects Bluetooth. It uses that for the provisioning. But needs to tether to stay connected. And you need to stay connected while you drive . That’s the scoring that I talk about. If you fall under a 50% score , you won’t receive any rewards at all .

I didn't drive my car for 48 hours and had the motus mini plugged in the entire time. Now my car battery is completely dead. So I suggest unplugging it when you or not driving or the very least unplug it if you know you won't be driving your car for a day because you are not giving the alternator a chance to recharge the battery and this little device is a vampire sucking life out of the battery.
This seems to be very vehicle specific. I never unplug mine and on my work vehicle, I may go 2-3 days without using the vehicle and don’t have issues. And one of my friends, his automatically turns off when the vehicle turns off. I really think it’s all about how the OBT port handles everything. But there are several people in the discord that complain about the same issue you do. I know they supposed to be addressing this.
I am with you I bought two of these devices and neither one of these Motus will pair, When I contact Motus they tell me its a IOS problem with the iPhone then they tell me its the Network I am using in Canada which is Rogers, Then they tell me to change the sim which means I have to change the carriers. Are you Serious ? I would have expected this device to first work with IOS and second I would not expect a carrier to matter, A Hotspot is a Hotspot

Thank you for this. Yikes. I’ve got a one on the way… and a Dimo and a Hivemapper. If I don’t connect the Motus to my primary phone, will it run on a secondary phone? I’m running my cars hotspot to the secondary phone. Jesh this sounds like a mess.
You have to tether it to the phone the app is on. If your secondary phone has service, and can be tethered, it will work .

Tethering is the massive drawback. If needs to be plug and play.
Do we know if i can switch through cars same device with same app and wallet??
I know there is talk in their discord that there is an update coming soon that will marry a device to a specific VIN. So im assuming if it can be done now, it is frowned upon and that’s why this update is coming. No ETA .

Okay so i have a question. What if i dont buy a splitter, and swich the macaron and the Motus Mini about 2 days each ?
That won’t work. The Motus only pays while being connected. It must be connected to the app to get paid. So while it’s disconnected, it won’t do challenges and you’re missing out. Where the Macron, that would probably work. The adapter is well worth it
@@grumpydad56 so the macaron needs to be connected once a week right ? What if monday -saturday motus, and sunday macoron ? What is your opinion ?
@@ervingombos4559 I don’t know. I don’t know how often the macaron needs to be connected or that it checks. The Y adapter isn’t that expensive. To me, it’s well worth it to not to have to deal with it.
I surprisingly got mine connected 1st try within 10min minutes, but my mining score is like 57. So I need to look into it, also i don’t know when my rewards will sync, drove for an hour and still same amount of t motus in my wallet,
I know it starts at 50% and you move up each challenge as long as it’s connected. Just make sure every time you get in your car, it’s connected and you have two greens on your app as you drive around
You start at a score of 50 and work your way up from challenges till you hit 100
Thanks. I knew it depended on challenges and it also tries to proof of connectivity or something and when it takes a sample and it doesn’t respond back, that hurts you also. I am up to 71 today
My new car that uses wifi for Apple CarPlay is useless as you can’t use wifi and hotspot for Motus mini at the same time. So I can mine or use CarPlay. Sucks
What kind of car? I have a new truck coming in next week for work. Was looking forward to being able to use wifi Apple car play. Gonna be pissed if this screws that up to. Motus is really kicking themselves in the a$$ on this one. Someone clearly didn’t do their homework. I hope whenever they start compensating, it’s worth it. Because if not, people aren’t going to keep going through these issues for .24 cents a day, lol
until they fix these problems i am not getting one i would rather get another DIMO
Just got mine last night. The app keeps crashing when connected to mobile phone hotspot. Turn hotspot off the app works but cannot register frustrating. I have a iphone 14 pro max with current updates. Anyone got this same problem or if someone can help me I would really appreciate it. Have a nice day.
I think it drain car battery. Because i saw that it is turn on even if i turn off car.... so be careful
I haven’t had that issue yet. Some people have reported it. I really think it’s determined by your vehicle’s OB2 port. I have this and a Dimo plugged into mine, and have gone 2-3 days without starting my vehicle and haven’t had issues.
This is concerning to me. When I open the box and scan the QR code to download the app, it immediately gets flagged as malware. Understandable considering the beta testing however, directly below the QR code in the instructions to download the app, it actually says the URL of the QR code. It is not at all the same thing. The QR code is to an immediate download which is highly suspicious.
What kind of phone and OS do you have? This is the first I am hearing of this and haven’t seen that with mine. And I have to rescan mine at least every other week because it needs to be reset
@@grumpydad56 galaxy note 20 ultra. I think Bitdefender was just freaked out with it's heuristic analysis. It was the only thing to flag it. I am so confused why it never shows any mileage and it thinks my accelerator pedal is always at a minimum of 12 percent. I don't know how i am earning all these rewards with my car turned off, and it not even registering mileage when i drive. it is accurate with gps speed, fuel level, etc but some things are just wrong. Im driving a 2019 subaru WRX if anyone has any ideas.
@@tyranosurasmax that’s pretty good. I don’t get any readings on my vehicle from it. But neither do my Dimo’s. I think it has to do when the OB2 port turns off. When my vehicle is off, I quit getting rewards.
It’s garbage basically impossible to connect to your iPhone mine is just sitting in my dresser just get a dimo macaron it’s basically plug and play
