I am soooooo happy to finally see this video of the boat on the water. The entire series was satisfying to watch and the complete transformation. Now this is the cherry on top seeing it finally in the water. Congratulations, you should be very proud of your accomplishment.
Congrats! I watched most of your videos on this project. My first boat was a Glastron 156 with a Johnson 70hp three-cylinder engine. I got it used with a trailer for next to nothing, enjoyed it for years, and sold it for next to nothing. It was reliable, hassle-free and a lot of fun. I pulled it behind a Dodge Omni 4-cylinder car with no problems whatsoever. We skied behind it, fished and just explored the waterways around Melbourne Florida. I miss that boat. I wish I still had it, although I would probably not be up for such a huge refurbishment project as you did. Thanks for the memories.
Congrats on all your hard work. Happy to see the old girl back on the water and doing it in style. Now After watching all your videos, I have the "how to" knowledge to get working on my boat
Incredible. You’ve built something beautiful that you can always be proud of. And kudos to your wife, too. From a guy who’s been married for 25 years, I know you can’t take on a project like this without a very special partner.
Congratulations honestly. Have re-lived through your blogs such great childhood memoriesn in my uncle's Glastron v156 in Victoria Australia. Enjoy your work.
Congrats from Germany! I bought a 1970 Glastron 142 w/ a 1975 70 hp Johnson in late 2015 and went through exactly the same journey. New transom, full restauration inside and outside until mid 2016. I watched your series from the beginning, loved it. Great to finally see it floating. Good luck with your new old boat!
Oh wow! This has been a long time coming. I am so excited. It looks so awesome on the water . You have done a fantastic job. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and for all the endless hours you put in making these videos. Looking forward to more.
Well done, Josh and greetings from Sydney, Australia. Thanks for the series which I have been watching avidly for over 6 years. I bought a V156 six years ago having admired them for over 50 years.. Your series came up at the right time and inspired me to restore my boat , and so I have now done so. It was a very challenging but an enjoyable and worthwhile project. Congratulations and thank you again for providing such a timely , fantastic and informative series which enabled me to embark on one of the most enjoyable, sentimental, emotional and productive times in my life. I wish you fair winds and calm seas and happy boating in one of the world's classic boats.
Thank you, John! I appreciate the kind words. Thanks for sticking with me for 6 years! I hope your boat brings you many years of happiness. and great memories.
I have watched this project from the beginning, but just now saw the splash day video, good job. Boat looks great! I finished up my 4th build over the winter.
Well done for seeing the project through to the end! So glad it’s done!! Now I just need to get on with mine. Many thanks as always for the inspiration!
Josh! Josh! Josh! U my friend are my boat hero. Love the sounds. Love the sights. Most of all tho’, LOVE THE SMILES! Thanks for sharing this wonderful ongoing journey. It is an inspiration to all of us aspiring boat rebuilders. 😁
Again you are too kind! I definitely had a hard time wiping the smile off my face the first time I took the boat out. I dreamed about that day forever it seems and when it finally became real it made me feel like a kid on Christmas morning. If you're rebuilding a boat my advice is hang in there and don't let anyone tell you not to waste your time. It took me longer than I wanted, but I would do it all over again because it was worth it.
I have the same boat. Bought it with trailer for $200. Has a rotted floor and carbs need gone through but I’m pretty stoked for it. Started tearing the old floor out yesterday.
i just recently did the transom, stringers, and floor on my 1985 glasstream,156 and put a rebuilt 90hp yamaha on it. runs great. i still need to get a canopy for not so nice days.
Been a few weeks now, but I picked up a 86’ glastron conroy z-16 and have been working towards restoring it, what an experience!! Thanks for a cool video!
I pulled my adult daughter and her 2 children up together with my 70 hp. evinrude .Years ago I had a 16' Larson with a 85 hp ,3 cylinder Force and it would peg 35 mph gage on boat, no GPS back then.
I just bought a 96 glastron 17ssv. Has a small hole/crack on the side but above the water line. Gonna watch all your videos and figure out what to do! My first fiberglass boat gas a 98 Evinrude 90hp can't wait to fire it up next spring.
Wow dide, just wow!! i just binge watched this series and it was awesome, ive always contemplated doing this and customizing it the way i wanted, but after seeing what really goes into it- youve convinced me not to- and i appreciate that 😉😄 you should be extremely proud!!
Hi, i'm looking for this boat, mercury efi 50 and the same this boat. Do you think that i can drive in the sea as in the river. Because i would like over the summer go on vacation at sea, and over the year to drive on river. Thanks, and sorry for my language, i'm from Serbia. 😁
Great job on boat. I purchased 1974 V156 with a 70 hp Evinrude on it .I can do 28 to 30 mph pulling a slollem skier with 2 adults and 2 children in boat. I did go to a 4 blade prop. for a quicker plane. I was wondering what your 85 hp can do for WOT speed.Again great job, wish I had your drive so I could do same to my Glastron.
Thanks! I have seen 43mph on my speedometer, I need to compare it with a GPS. I have zero regrets about the restoration, it was well worth all of my time.
I have the same boat, even the color. Mine has a 3 cylinder Johnny 60 hp. It needs all the same as yours. Was going to send to the great boat yard in the sky. I think I'm going to do what you did. One exception, no glass work. Salt treat stringers and salt treat plywood, all held in with liquid nails PE adhesive. Seen other guys do it, should work with treated wood. I'm not glassing anything so it will stick with the glue and should rot for 50 yrs. I'll be 110 years old when it needs to come out again
OMG... AWESOME! It has to be a great feeling finally driving this thing on the water. I am so happy for you. Was there any point you kinda freaked out about your repairs? 😆
Congratulations man, love the series! Keep up the great work! Also looks like you might have hit something around the 5:44 mark, as the outboard jumped up. Hope everything is ok.
Thanks! Didn't hit anything, I shifted directions from forward to reverse and the motor tried to come out of the water. There's a latch that keeps the motor locked in place that I didn't have flipped.
Nice videos, I have a glastron 79, im doing a restoration as well, your videos really help me with a lots of questions I had. where can i get some glastron part such a rails rubbers and plans. cheers mate
Thanks Daniel. I have links to the rub rail inserts that I bought in the video description of Glastron Vlog #25 ruclips.net/video/SGBGNqrJkI0/видео.html Good luck with your restoration!
Great Lakes Skipper LLC -> Jmink was lucky getting the last piece. So I bought-> Taco Metals V12-0303WHC70 Boat Rub Rail Insert Molding | 1 x 1/2 Inch (70 FT) Which is also a good fit. Pleae inquiry at them, they are very helpful
Hello, could you explain to me how you lift and lower your motor from inside the boat? I have a boat like this and have to get in the water to raise our lower it. Thank you.
Ha ha, I don't know if I can explain that. It's not graceful at all! But, I use the handle on top of the motor cowl. I too get in the water as well to raise and lower sometimes.
Nice restauration.... How it feels on the water? Cruise speed? Max speed? I have the exact one to start the project, only difference is my Yamaha 60FET 2T
She goes really good. In my last video where I did a boat walkaround I talked about the trim. I had some trials trying to find the best trim setting. Once I found the right trim I've had smooth runnings!
HI jOSH, JUST A THOUGHT i'M SURE YOU'VE THOUGHT OF ABOUT THE POOR FUEL MILEAGE YOU HAD MENTIONED, iT SEEMS TO ME YO MAY HAVE ADDED CONSIDERABLE WEIGHT TO YOUR BOAT WITH UPGRADES, A LARGER MOTOR MAY BE NEEDED, I HAVE A RINKER BUIL GLASTRON i JUST ACQUIRED LOOKS IDENTICAL TO YOUR'S IT'S A 1976 15' IT HAS A 115 MERCURY , i HAVEN'T PUT IT IN THE WATER YET BUT CAN'T WAIT!!. I was wondering how much running time you get out of your fuel I'm currently working on a build and it is one of my final projects before I get out on the water
@@jmink I appreciate the reply I have a 1975 85 hp johnson and was planning on 24 gallons under the seats with custom bases but if I can do two or three six gallon tanks that would be much easier thank you

jmink it will for sure... hopefully not too much engine for my little boat. Deal of a lifetime and couldn’t pass on it lol. I still can’t believe you actually got your boat in the water man. Crazy it’s literally been like 6 years or something lol
